Trigonometry for Dummies By : Itzel Simon Get Ready To learn in a New Fun Way!!!!
Step One We can’t just jump into Tri so fast. First we must understand some definitions that are very commonly used in Trigonometry. Let’s take this one step at a time. Trigonometry as some may know is one of the many branches of math that deals with angles and sides of triangles. Now that you know the definition of Trigonometry lets learn more words and see they hold for us to learn. This is going to be fun. Come on don’t be scared, click to the next slide. 
Lets meet Ms. Reference Angle Ms. Reference angle is an Acute angle that is formed by the Terminal side and the x-axis. As you can see Ms. Reference angle likes to be the smaller angle which on this case he is 60 degrees. When trying to find Ms. Reference angle all you have to do is subtract the obtuse angle given to either 180 or 360.(360 when its greater than 360 degrees) For example if they give you an angle that’s 140 all you have to do is subtract 180 fron 140 and then that’s when you find Ms. Reference angle which is 40 degrees. You MUST ALWAYS remember that Ms . Reference angle is always going to be the acute angle.
Introducing Mr. Conterminal angles Mr. Conterminal likes to think that he only has positive angles but he later has to admit to himself that he can have both negative and positive angles. He knows that he has angles that are sharing the same initial and terminal sides. Depending on which side you rotate you can have a positive or negative angles. For example if you are given an angle such as -210, all you have to do to find your conterminal side is subtract 360 from 210 and you will get 150. Another example is if your angle is 400, you just have to subtract 400 from 360 and you will get your conterminal side. Remember that a positive conterminal is if you go counterclockwise and when you go clockwise its negative. Mr. Conterminal likes to think that he only can have positive angles but we all know that the angles share the same initial and terminal side.
Sin - Cosine - Tan In tri we must know what Sine, Cosine and Tangent is on the unit circle. If you don’t, remember that Sin is opp/adj, Cos is adj/hyp, and Tan is opp/adj. In the unit circle they have properties and values on the unit circle. Sin = y-axis Cos = x-axis Tan = Sin/Cos. One important thing to remember is that it cannot be greater than 1 as you can see all around the circle they have values of 1 and -1. Click to the next slide to view more information.
In the coordinate plane Sin , Cos , and Tan can be either positive or negative. An easy way to remember is A . S . T . C .( A ll S tudents T ake C lass ). By memorizing this you will remember in which quadrant Sin , Cosine and Tangent are Positive. Test it out! See if it actually works when you look at your unit circle.
Formulas Math isn’t math without its formulas to learn. In trigonometry its very important to learn the formulas given to you. Once you have learned these formulas you will be a pro at trig in no time. Here are some formulas one must know in order to comprehend problems. These formulas may also be referred to identities. Click to the next slide.

I know most of you are wondering what CSC means but relax I am here to explain. As there are formulas for sin,cos and tan, there are also formulas. CSC = Cosecant. Cot = Cotangent. Sec = Secant. As shown on the slide before this those are the identities for Cosecant, Cotangent and Secant. An Easy way to remember not to mess up with the identities when solving a problem is to remember that when looking for CSC the formula is 1/Sin. If C comes first know that the formula must have an S that’s first. To remember Secant know that if the S is first then that means that the formula must have a C as Secant is 1/Cos. An Cot is easy to remember as well. If you know that Tan is Sin/Cos, Cot is just the opposite of tangent and its formula is Cos/Sin.
Congratulations! You did it!!! You have completed with your session of Trig for Dummies. You wont need any ones help anymore. Remember to know the formulas and the vocabulary words and you will be all set. Enjoy!
