The aims of my short lecture today are to
inform you about:

- Tambov City and Tambov region;
- Tambov State University named after Gavrila
Romanovith Derzavin;
- Members of our work group within the
framework of ECESIS project;
- Aims of our group in the framework of
ECESIS
project.

Tambov, a city of 300,000, is a regional centre situated in Central Russia 500 km
south from Moscow. Tambov's location is advantageous for acquaintance with the
Russian province, and at the same time it is close to the Russian capital. Tambov is
an old Russian city, founded in 1636, with beautiful orthodox churches and
cathedrals, green parks, picturesque landscapes in its suburbs and hospitable,
good-natured people.

Tambov State University
Tambov State University was formed in
1918. Further it had different names until
1994. In 1994 the university was revived
as an educational institution of a classical
type. Now Tambov State University is one
of the largest higher education institutions
in the Black-Soil (Tsentralno-
Chernozemny) region.
The structure of the university
includes 12 academies, institutes and
faculties, among which there are the
institute of mathematics, physics and
computer science, the institute of natural
sciences, the academy of economics and
management, etc.
More than 700 teachers work at the
university, there are more than 100
professors among them. About 15000
students study at the university.

Tambov State University was the winner of Russian national
project “Obrazovanie” (Education) between 40 best universities
of Russian Federation (2007-2008)

Teachers.
Students: about 1000 Students of all forms of study, 50 post
graduate students.
Management: Director (Dean) of Institute and 3 vice-
directors (in Education, in Science and in Social sphere).

Age: 51. Head of the Department of
International Relations of TSU.
Scientific Interests: Foreign
Languages Study, University
Management (over 50 publications).
He was the participant of our last
TEMPUS-TACIS SMOOTH project
2005-2006. In this project Yu.
Zusman will carry out functions of an
interface manager and organizer of
the English language courses.

Associate Prof., Dr. Natalia
Zenkova
Age: 31. Associate Professor of
Computer and Mathematical
Simulation Department of TSU.
Scientific Interests: Computer
Simulation in Psychological and
Social Systems, Intellectual
Information Systems (over 50
publications). Projects experience:
Project of Institute “Open Society”,
“The information technology
development on psychological-
pedagogical testing of the initial
educational level on the basis of
artificial neural network modeling”,
2002-2003. She was the participant
of our last TEMPUS-TACIS
SMOOTH project 2005-2006. In this
project N. Zenkova will carry out
functions of a teacher.

Prof. Dr. Alexander Arzamastsev
Age: 52. Head of the Computer and
Mathematical Simulation Department of
TSU. Corresponding Member of Russian
Academy of Natural Sciences. Scientific
Interests: Computer and Mathematical
Simulation in Natural Sciences and Social
Systems (over 300 publications). Grants
and Projects: Institute “Open Society” –
2002-2003, International Soros Science
Education Program (ISSEP) – 2000-2002,
International Science Foundation (ISF) -
1995, DAAD – 2008, etc. He was the
participant of our last TEMPUS-TACIS
SMOOTH project 2005-2006. In this project
A. Arzamastsev will carry out functions of a
promoter of the Russian (only in Tambov)
part of the project.

§ 5.
Aims of Tambov working
group in the framework of
ECESIS project

To introduce the European information management
approach into process of management of Tambov
region (together with representative of Tambov regional
administration – Prof. Natalya Astafieva);

To organize and develop permanent management,
computer, and EU language courses for local
administrative staff;

To prepare the new educational programs and make the
courses of the lectures and practical training;

To print and to disseminate these materials for practice.
