Tsunami By Peter Georgiou
What Caused the Tsunami? An undersea earthquake that occurred at 00:58:53 UTC on December 26, 2004.
Where did the most damage occur and why? Indonesia 131,028 deaths 37,000 people missing Because it was close to the epicenter
How did the shape of the beach affect the amplitude of the wave? If the beach had shallow water for a long distance then the waves would not have been very large as they would have broken before they got to the shore. If the beach had been very deep but then suddenly got shallow just at the shore then that was where the waves reached there full height and full destruction.
Did scientists detect the earthquake in time to warn people? Scientists did detect an extraordinary high wave in deep water but they did not know that this would lead to a total destruction
Why did most people not get a warning? Scientists were not prepared for such a big earthquake to occur so they did not know whether this really was a big Tsunami or not.
Precautions for future Tsunamis! Tsunami Walls Mangrove Trees Sirens Warning Signs
