This document outlines a tutor programme to help students become familiar with using Knowledge Organisers. Each week focuses on a section of the Knowledge Organiser and teaches students self-quizzing strategies to aid memorization. Week 5 consolidates what students have learned, and weeks 6-7 focus on subject-specific Knowledge Organisers. The tutor is provided instructions and resources to guide students through the programme.

- 2. Staff instructions As you should be aware, Knowledge Organisers are being introduced this academic year. This tutor programme will help build the foundations for students to familiarise themselves with the concept of them as well as how to use them effectively. • Each week is broken down to focus on a section of a Knowledge Organiser which is provided in the form of a print out for each student and detailed in this presentation. • It is really important that students know and understand how to self-quiz (detailed in the presentation) as this will aid them in learning and remembering the new knowledge they are exposed to over the coming weeks. This strategy will be used each week to learn a new section of the Knowledge Organiser and they can use this with their other subjects. • Week 5 is consolidating what the students have learnt over the past 4 weeks, you may wish to incorporate some interleaving (details in the link) in the previous weeks to help aid this. • When you get to week 6 and 7 the students will use their subject specific Knowledge Organisers. - 21. Using one of your Knowledge Organisers for your subjects, use the Self-Quizzing method to start revising that topic. Once you have Self-Quizzed and you have all the information correct try some of the following: • Can you expand/elaborate on the information you have learnt? If you can do this, this will show that you have a deeper understanding of the topic. • Can you reorganise the information on the Knowledge Organiser to further help your learning? o An example of this could be, a list of key historical figures from the Second World War could be organised hierarchically in terms of power/status. • Create some “Why” questions based on the information in your Knowledge Organiser. Once this is done quiz a friend using these questions, can they answer them showing they understand the information within the topic. Self-Quizzing: Subject specific (Revision 1)

- 24. Using one of your Knowledge Organisers for your subjects, use the Self-Quizzing method to start revising that topic or try the memory palace technique you just watched in the video. Once you have Self-Quizzed and you have all the information correct try some of the following: • Can you expand/elaborate on the information you have learnt? If you can do this, this will show that you have a deeper understanding of the topic. • Can you reorganise the information on the Knowledge Organiser to further help your learning? o An example of this could be, a list of key historical figures from the Second World War could be organised hierarchically in terms of power/status. • Create some “Why” questions based on the information in your Knowledge Organiser.
