Countable Noun Uncountable Noun
HOW MANY? HOW MUCH?
Countable Noun
● It can be counted using numbers
● Nouns which can take singular ( a dog, a house, a friend ) and
plural form (a few books, lot of oranges ) .
● Thus, countable nouns are individual people, animal, places,
things or ideas that can be counted.
SINGULAR PLURAL
one dog two dogs
one man two men
one idea two ideas
List of Countable Nouns :
eggs phone
army flower
apple watermelon
banana pencil
cookies school
bag channel
cup bottle
box car
cherries pizza
Words used with countable nouns :
two two girls
every everyday
these these chairs
those those chocolates
a couple of a couple of greetings cards
several several years
thousands thousands of seas
the majority of the majority of students
Uncountable
Noun :
They for the
things that
cannot be
counted with
numbers.
They are names
for abstract
ideas / qualities
or for physical
objects that are
too small to be
counted (liquids,
powders or
gases)
They are used
with a singular
verb and do not
have a plural
form.
Eg gases like air, hydrogen,
nitrogen, oxygen, smoke,
steam.
Never use “a” or
“an”.

articles and quantifiers such as :
Articles : a , an , the.
Quantifiers : some, many, much, a little , a few , several.
