All foods contain nutrients that provide energy and support growth and repair of the body. The five main types of nutrients are carbohydrates, fats, proteins, vitamins, and minerals. Carbohydrates and fats provide energy for activities, while proteins help us grow and repair tissue. Vitamins and minerals work to maintain overall health and well-being. People should eat a variety of foods to get necessary nutrients but limit unhealthy fats which can lead to overweightness.
