Presented by
Claire B. Agusan
OVERVIEW
Expository/
Informative Speech
Persuasive Speech
Entertainment Speech
I will group the class into three. Each group will
be given an envelope that contains scrambled
letters. What you need to do is to arrange the
scrambled letters in order to form the exact word
and paste the letters on the board. After that, each
group will choose a representative to say
something about the word that you formed. I will
give you one minute to arrange the letters and
another one minute for the presentation of your
work.
ACTIVITY
Group 1
Word: INFORMATION
Group 2
Word: PERSUASION
Group 3

Unlocking Difficulties
Using the clue letters given, guess the word that is being defined
in each item. After which, use each word in a sentence.
1. to entertain or amuse (someone) with talk
R __ G __ __ E
2. make (something) necessary as a result or consequences
N E __ E __ S __T __ __ E
3. lacking interest or excitement; dull
M U __ D __ N __
Answers:
1. REGALE
2. NECESSITATE
3. MUNDANE
The purpose of writing and delivering of speech
can be classified into three:
1. EXPOSITORY/INFORMATIVE SPEECH
2. PERSUASIVE SPEECH
3. ENTERTAINMENT SPEECH
1. Expository /Informative Speech
Expository is an informative speech in which the speaker will
provide insights and explore interesting implications on a topic of
their choice. It provides the audience with a clear understanding
of the concept or idea presented by the speaker.
Expository speeches necessitate background research, and their
informational nature excludes personal opinions. Their goal,
simply put, is to educate others rather than convince anyone of
your viewpoint.
Example: A weatherman speaks updates about the weather
condition.
2. Persuasive Speech
A persuasive speech is a speech that is given with the
intention of convincing the audience to believe or do
something. In other words, this type of speech provides the
audience with well-argued ideas that can influence their
own beliefs and decisions. Its importance is found in
politics, advertising, education, activism, and any other
field in which changing someone's mind is the end goal.
Example: A politician speaking in a Meeting de A Vance
3. Entertainment Speech
An entertainment speech is a speech designed to captivate an audience’s attention and
regale them while delivering a message. Just like informative and persuasive speeches,
entertainment speeches should also communicate a clear message, but the manner of
speaking used is typically different. These type of speeches are often delivered on special
occasions (e.g., a toast at a wedding, an acceptance speech at an awards banquet, a
motivational speech at a conference), which is why they are sometimes referred to as
special-occasion speeches. However, they can also be given on more mundane occasions,
where their purpose is primarily to amuse audience members or arouse them
emotionally in some way. Remember, when we use the word “entertain,” we are
referring not just to humor but also to drama. Overall , the primary goal of an
entertainment speech is to stir an audience’s emotions or to provide amusement to
them.
Example: A comedian delivering punch lines.
Group Activity
So now, let’s put everything you’ve learned
into action.
With the same group that you have awhile ago in your first
activity, I want you to identify the following examples of
speech according to their purpose but there is a twist. After
you identify the purpose, you have to state your reason of
answering so. Make sure to state your proof such as a
sentence or sentences that prove your answer. Each group
will be given 3 different speeches printed in a bond paper.
I will give you 5 minutes to do your group activity and
another 2 minutes for your presentation. Each group
should choose your representative that will present your
work in front.
