- 8. Pen or PencilScheduling TipsIf your intent is to be a full –time student, plan on taking 12 to 15 credits.First year students should stick to lower division (100 and 200 level) classes. Actively explore! Look for classes that interest you and will help you learn more about potential majors.Have one or two backup classes on your list in case any of the classes you want are closed.Don’t be afraid to ask questions!
- 9. WR 121 – The Alpha Sectioned ClassWR 121 (3 credits) -- A-G: Fall -- H-N: Winter -- O-Z: Spring
- 10. Math PlacementMath course placement is determined by your score on the Math Placement Exam, unless you have completed Math credits at the college level.
- 11. Please consult Page 20 of your handbook for definitions of the various Math classes.
- 12. You are strongly encouraged to abide by these placement levels based on your score. -- Below 11 = Math 65 -- 11-16 = Math 95/103 -- 17-23 = Math 105, 111, 211 -- 24 –32 = Math 112, 241, 245 -- 32+ = Math 231, 251
- 13. Foreign Language PlacementForeign Language at OSU is based on 3-term sequences that start in the Fall.The level of language is indicated by the first number in course number – e.g. French 311 is a third year course.The term a course is offered is indicated by the last two numbers in the course number. -- 11 = Fall term -- 12 = Winter term -- 13 = Spring termSo, if you placed into Spanish 212, you would start Spanish Winter term.
- 14. Science!OSU requires that everyone complete three lab sciences for bacc core.
- 15. 100 level sciences are geared towards students outside of the science-based majors.
- 16. Check the catalog to see if majors you’re considering require Chemistry.

Check your UESP handbook on Page 20 to learn about the different Chemistry Sequences.U-Engage & Career Decision MakingALS 199, U-Engage, is a 2-credit class designed to introduce new first year students to the dynamics of being a student at a research institution.ALS 114, Career Decision Making, is a 2-credit class designed to give you tools that will help you make decisions about a potential major or career.
- 18. Orientation ClassesMany of OSU’s majors offer classes that introduce you to the major and the academic discipline.Consult Pages 11-12 of your UESP handbook for a list of these classes.
- 19. Prerequisites & LimitationsSeveral classes at OSU have prerequisites, which are requirements that must be satisfied prior to registering for the course. If you haven’t met a prerequisite for a class, it is likely you won’t be able to register for that class.
