UNIVERSITY OF KENTUCKY
INVESTMENT CLUB
Fall 2014 Edition
NEW ON THE BLOCK
 The UK Investment Club was recently founded in 2009
 Also known as The Wildcat Investors
 Student-oriented
 Our goal is to improve the academic and professional trajectories of all members
 We do this by:
 Giving educational presentations
 Mentoring/advising students: Which classes to take, what specific majors are like, how to
obtain an internship, etc.
 Popular questions:
 What is the job market like after graduation?
 Which majors have the most opportunities?
 Where can I go to get career advice? (besides here!)
 We are also working on bringing in recruiters for internships & full time employment

WARNING OF POTENTIAL CHANGES
 In order to become a Member for next semester, you will need 50% attendance
this semester
 As we improve our incentive structure and become more exclusive, requirements will
continue to rise
 Barring donations, we will likely begin charging dues in the Spring
 Club resources cost money
 We have yet to determine how exclusive networking opportunities will be
 We highly recommend advancing as far as possible to avoid being left out

ORGANIZATIONAL PORTFOLIO
WITHOUT A DOUBT THE MOST REQUESTED CLUB FEATURE
 The Situation
 Nearly unanimous desire for a fund
 “Real money” fund currently impractical due to constraints
 Possession of funding issues
 Collection
 Disbursements
 Fees
 Etc.
 Costly mechanism to adequately pool money together
 Prior funds have been liquidated
 We can no longer ignore this desire; the UK Investment club needs this aspect in
order to live up to its name
A VIABLE SOLUTION
 Real money is currently not viable
 We need a digital service with adequate controls & functionality
 Morningstar, Inc.
 Independent investment research & development firm located in Chicago
 Provides research services to thousands of independent advisors across the U.S.
 Offers a free digital portfolio service on Morningstar.com
WHY MORNINGSTAR
 Ability to manually input prices at any time of the day
 News & opinions on individual investments
 Various performance-tracking utilities
 Fundamentals listed on the tracking screen
 Portfolio performance vs various indexes
 Portfolio customization tools
 Asset allocation
 Alerts & updates by security, by portfolio, & intraday alerts
HOW IT WORKS
 Security Purchase Agreement
 Amount you can invest is based on your status within the club
 Officer - $100,000
 Analyst - $75,000
 Member - $50,000
 Guest - $25,000
 How to invest
 Write in the Security Name, its Ticker, and your desired Position Weight
 Position Weight total should be 100%
 Do not worry about dollar amounts or current prices
 Turn in your form to the club leadership at your own discretion
THE CLUB PORTFOLIO & WEEKLY
MEETINGS
 Each week we will discuss the “big movers”
 Did a company beat/miss earnings? Accounting fraud? Etc.
 Occasional vote to purchase a substantial quantity of an individual security/MF
 We will present 3 options in advance and decide the following week based on popular
vote
 May also vote to sell poorly performing investments
 Nick will briefly discuss an additional competition following this presentation
(We are also open to ideas on how to better implement the portfolio in our
meetings)
WHY US?
 Track record of success
 Places of employment
 Aristides Capital, Hedge Fund
 Masters in Finance, University of Chicago
 PhD in Economics, University of Michigan
 Financial Analyst, New York Racing Association
 Much more..
