transferred/communicated
This can be done through
word of mouth, smart
phone, Radio, TV among
others
….. In summary…
1. Information Technology: means by

acquired and presented
2. Communication Technology:
means by which information or
data is exchanged or shared
2 TYPES OF ICT:
Traditional ICT and Modern ICT
1. Traditional ICT
 Books
 Classroom lessons or
lectures
 Daily newspapers
 Radio
 Journals
2. Modern ICT
 Internet connectivity
 Smart phone

 Global Positioning System
(GPS) driving
 Online Radio
Why ICT (1)
 CHANGE HOW WE ACQUIRE knowledge and
information through CONTINUOUS LEARNING.
This improves confidence of learners,
teachers, leaders and parents.
 ACCELERATE information gathering and
delivery of communication this helps in faster
decision making.

 REDUCES cost of information sharing,
gathering and exchanging
 REQUIRES parental engagement
Where can ICT be applied (1)
 Education through online classes or research
through the internet
 Government by providing access to
government services like paying your taxes
online.
 Businesses to buy and sell items to anyone in
any part of the world e.g. jumia.co.ke
Where can ICT be applied (2)

to develop vaccines
 Social to easily stay in touch and share with
friends and relatives e.g. facebook
Advantages or pros of ICT
 Easy Access of learning resources
 Knowledge sharing
 Wide population cover
 Faster communication

 Paperless environment
Disadvantages or cons of ICT
 Cyber security
 Cyber bullying
 Costly infrastructure
 Too much information can lead to time
wasted in decision making
 Assuming incorrect information
By the end of this lesson you
should be able to comfortably
 Define ICT
 Identify the 2 types of ICT
 Explain why ICT is important
 Identify the applications of
ICT
 Explain the advantages and
disadvantages of ICT
