THE DIGITAL WORLDThanks to Nobel Prize Winner, Canadian Willard S. Boyle and American George E. Smith, who both worked at Bell Labs in Murray Hill, New Jersey, for inventing the so-called charge-coupled device semiconductor -- better known as a CCD. Any one who has ever looked at a digital camera spec list must have seen CCD.Another pioneer is Eric R. Fossum, whose development of the CMOS (complementary metal-oxide semiconductor)image sensor, or “camera on a chip,” in the early 1990s has had a profound effect on digital imaging technology. It found uses in Web cams, cell phone cameras, high-end digital single-lens-reflex cameras, swallowable medical “pill-cameras”, automotive and space exploration applications.

HOW DIGITAL CAMERAWORKSA digital single-lens reflex camera (digital SLR or DSLR) is a digital camera that uses a mechanical mirror system and pentaprism to direct light from the lens to an optical viewfinder at the back of the camera.The basic operation of a DSLR is as follows: for viewing purposes, the mirror reflects the light coming through the attached lens upwards at a 90 degree angle. It is then reflected twice by the pentaprism, rectifying it for the photographer's eye. During exposure, the mirror assembly swings upward, the aperture narrows, and a shutter opens, allowing the lens to project light onto the image sensor. A second shutter then covers the sensor, ending the exposure, and the mirror lowers while the shutter resets. The period that the mirror is flipped up is referred to as "viewfinder blackout". A fast-acting mirror and shutter is preferred so as to not delay an action photo.All of this happens automatically over a period of milliseconds.

TIME WARP AND UNDER WATER PHOTOGRAPHYTime Warp or High speed photography is the science of taking pictures of very fast phenomena. High speed photography can be considered to be the opposite of time-lapse photography.Underwater photography is the process of taking photographs while under water. It is usually done while scuba diving, but can be done while snorkeling or swimming.
