House Style
Planning and pitching-front cover analysis
The masthead is the title of the magazine
and as you can see there is a red box with
the letter Q in white writing. The colour
red connotes how Q are passionate about
providing ‘great’ music information.
Another convention of a
Magazine cover is the main
image. The denotation of the
main image is “Florence and
The Machine” which connotes
“star appeal” (Richard Dyer).
The technical code of the
close up of Florence grabs the
readers attention as the front
cover is mainly focusing on
her.
The visual codes on the front cover
such as the pale blue dashes and bullet
points are other conventions, the
bullet points in the cover line interest
the reader through the brief summary
and therefore they would want to read
more.
The strapline is placed underneath
the masthead, the strapline denotes
“Discover great music” which
connotes inside this magazine there
will be new and updated information
about the music industry and the
audience will be able to “Discover”
this by buying and reading the
magazine.
On the left and right hand side of the
page, there are coverlines which is
information about what is inside of
the magazine, for example “16 page
Gig”. Coverlines are an insight to the
audience about what they can read. The barcode contains the
date, issue number and
price, furthermore there is
usually a web address
(technical convergence)
which allows the audience
to view the magazine
online.
The main story is featured at
the top, the main story
anchors the image. The
verbal code “I feel so alone”
connotes that this will be an
interesting story and entices
the reader to want to know
what it is about.
Double page spread
Main Image - in this
double page spread,
Florence is looking
directly at the reader
which suggests that she is
inviting the readers into
the article.
In the main article of the double page spread, the
drop capital is used to catch the readers attention
at the beginning of the text. The Font style is bold to
try and make the readers interested in the
Magazine. The purpose of the drop capital is to
signal the reader where to begin.
This article is in columns which
implies the conventions of a double
page spread and this is also usually a
interview that is in columns.
This heading is very
appropriate
because it is a line
of one of Florence's
number one
singles. The bold
front stands out to
get the readers
attention as the
front is different
from the others in
this article
The colour red is an
extremely bold colour
and suggests passion
and fire which could
connote the artists
passion for music
The stand first is
the introduction
for the interview,
this gives the
reader an insight
on what the
interview or
column is about
and allows them to
decide if they want
Credits- this writing
states who wrote the
article and who took
pictures.
Usually in an interview on
a double page spread,
there is a pull quote which
is a quote from the artist
pulled out of the
interview. This is usually a
quote that is interesting,
making the audience want
to read the interview.
Contents page
This Q contents page ‘repeats’
(Steve Neale 1980) the house style
colours of Q magazine which are
red, white and black which is very
simple but is also effective. The
contents page is laid out very neat
for the audience to know exactly
where to find what inside the
magazine.
The colour scheme is used
throughout the contents page with
the rectangles which are used to
separate different sets of information
in either red or black whilst the
background is white which is very
simple and a basic colour to use.
With the background being white and
the text being black, this makes the
text easy to read compared to other
colours, which makes it look for
professional for the reader to see.
The review section in the bottom right
hand corner is placed on a grey
background which is different from the
rest of the contents page, which could
connote that this section is of
importance to the magazine, and also
the grey in this section matches the
background of the image above.
The Q ident in the top corner
keeps the brand identity flowing
throughout the magazine, so the
audience get used to this logo.
The information under the
stories on the left are named
sublines, these give the reader
short and snappy sentences on
what the story will be about.
The main image is a close up shot
of Adele anchored by a small white
box named a caption which gives
you the page number of the story
and information about the story.

The Magazine Production process
Date of publication – Firstly, you set up a data publication. This is when you want the
magazine to be released to the public. Music magazines take around 2 months to
produce and plan because there is a lot of research to be completed.
Managing the schedule- secondly, once the date of the publication has been set up, a
schedule will be created. This is because if you want your magazine to be produced
effectively then a schedule needs to be made. The pros to a schedule is that if
anything changes from the initial plan, there will be an alternative plan. Having this
will allow deadlines to be made.
Editorial and budgetary decision – this part of the production process is where the
editorial team make a decision on what will be included in the magazine, for example
articles, competitions, pictures and news stories. After this the team make budgetary
decisions, looking at money that is available to them.
Content Acquisition- this part they decide who is going to create the content, they
choose between in-house writers or external writers to write about specific topics.
Furthermore illustrations are also created.

The Magazine Production process
Sub-editing- the next step which is taken focuses on quality control of the magazine, the person
that is usually responsible for this job is the sub editor. This sub editing involves spelling and
grammar, mistakes page layout and article facts.
Page layout- the editorial team will decide the layout of the magazine. They do this because it
allows the reader to read the magazine clearly.
Proof reading- this stage is where the first copy of the magazine is developed and will be looked
over by the editorial team. For example they will look out for any spelling and layout mistakes, if
they find these, a new version will be created and printed.
Publication and distribution- once all these processes have been completed, the magazine will
be sent out to print and then once printed, it will be distributed to the stores and then to the
public.

Language- the verbal code
“there was unfinished business”
implies that it is basically talking
to you and the word
“unfinished” implies that the
magazine has informal language
which would attract an older
audience.
Planning and pitching-Front
cover Analysis
Masthead- The masthead is
large and bold and has a 3D
effect behind it, to make it look
different and more superior to
the rest of the cover. It is in
white to contrast the dark
background and it is slightly
covered by the slogan which
connote that it has been
branded and therefore the
audience will already know of
the magazine and do not need
to see the whole masthead.
Main image-The main image
is linked to the main cover
line. It is medium close up of
the women in the image. The
cover lines don’t overlap her
which shows how significant
she is. She has heavy make
up on and as the genre of
this magazine is music and
the subgenre is indie/classic
rock.
Strapline- The strapline has been
written in grey and red, they
have chosen these colours to
keep with the colour scheme but
also to highlight different parts
of the strapline. Grey and red
will also stand out against the
dark background of the
magazine. The verbal code “the
music magazine” connotes
exactly what the magazine will
be about.
Planning and pitching-Front
cover Analysis
Layout- The layout follows the
codes and conventions of
magazines, the masthead is at
the top, cover lines around the
sides, main image in the centre
and the barcode at the bottom.
The layout makes you first focus
on the centre image the look at
the masthead, this is because
the masthead has been branded
and the magazine knows that
people will buy it.
Barcode-The barcode has
been placed in the bottom
right third of page, this is a
common and convention of
magazines as they don’t want
the barcode to take up much
room of the page.
Cover lines- the cover lines in
the front cover shown in this
image implies that Mojo are
trying to advertise their
magazine to attract more
people to be interested in it.
Puff promotion- the puff
promotion connotes a
way of presenting the
magazine and getting
people interested in it, it is
circular and is presented
as a bold colour to stand
out to the readers and
audiences of Mojo
magazine.
Double Page Spread
Headline- the font used
makes it easier on the
audiences eye and
therefore the focus remains
on the headline because it
is very bold and it stands
out with the background.
The style of the font is also
relevant and to the dark
theme of the magazine,
“matter of life and death”
implies that it is relevant to
the genre and the audience
of the magazine. The genre
of mojo magazine is
indie/rock so putting a
quite dark and mysterious
article title will make the
audience think and relate
to the genre which is due to
the music that is produced.
Main image- this takes up
one page of the double
page spread so it is
obvious that this is the
main image of the pages.
Despite the person in the
image is facing the
camera, his eyes are
closed which means direct
address is not used in the
double page spread. The
style of the model is
relevant to the theme and
the genre of the
magazine. His messy hair
and unbutton shirt
suggests an informal
design of the magazine,
this will keep the targeted
audience interested in the
magazine as the style is
consisted throughout the
magazine.
Layout-the grid has been used in order to create an
organised layout across the two pages. It is sectioned
off so it has the article on the top left, then directly
underneath is the main body of text. On the right it has
the main image, this consists with the overall style of the
magazine as it is quite informal and dark so it has a form
of organisation which gives a professional feel to it.
Stand first- the stand
first is below the main
title and is the
introductory paragraph
highlighting to the
reader what the article
is going to be about.
Drop capital- the drop capital is bold and the
font style has a large text. The drop capital
attracts the audience and identifies where
they should start reading.
Double Page Spread
Contents Page
Instead of the heading, the
magazine masthead has
been put in the top third of
the page. At the bottom of
this is the three cities which
are unique for music. The
content is divided into
different areas so its easier
for the reader to find
specific articles. The heading
and the page numbers are a
different colour in order to
create an extra definition
between the areas and the
individual articles.
The cover story/main article is
divided from the rest of the
contents with the simple use of
two red lines. The quote of the
main features has been placed
at the bottom of the page. This
is to give an insight in the
article and also it interests the
reader
The colour scheme is red,
white and black keeps things
simple in order to avoid
confusing the reader. The
main image is a high contrast
detailed picture which
appeals to the eye.
Language
The language used in Mojo magazine consists of informal
language and formal language. This is because it appeals to a
wide range of audiences male and female (Hartley). The

informal type of word to use especially on front cover.

Genre and Target
Audience
MOJO’s main genre is classical rock.
Mojo targets its audience by concentrating on the
classical rock. Mojo is ’signifying’ (De Saussure) that
rock music also has a value due to the amount of
classical rock artists. It also pays close attention on
having more articles in then it does reviewers of gig
festivals like Kerrang. Mojo features more older and
wiser bands/artists, for example as you can see on
the front cover they feature ‘The Who’ this band
would appeal to a ‘male’ (Hartley) audience in the
older demographic.

Socio-economic needs (A, B, C1, C2, D or E)
Audience Demographics defines the adults
population largely by the job they do, this is
based on the national readership survey
(NRS).
According to the socio-economic graph the
target audience for Mojo magazine would
be in category C because the target
audience for Q magazine is aimed at mostly
older people and adults that are interested
in different music genres.
Target Audience continued
Psychographics
According to the Psychographics table the
target audience Mojo would fit into the
category of ‘reformers’ because they select
products for quality and this magazine will give
them top quality music information. Also the
target audience would be ‘strugglers’ as they
seek escape and the people in the D and E
demographic which is the target audience
from Q magazine. Lastly the target audience
would be ‘aspirers’ because the magazine
relates to typically younger people who seek
status therefore they would like Mojo
magazine because it is a popular and well
known music magazine.
Target audience Hartley, Maslow,
Katz
For Katz, Mojo fits into the category of Personal Identification - this is where the
audience can relate to a character in the magazine because they may like that
particular artist.
For Maslow’s Hierarchy of needs, Mojo would fit into the category of Explorers
because they are driven by the social change such as whenever the magazine is
published, there will be different artists and things that are different to explore.
And lastly for Hartley’s seven subjectivities, Mojo’s audience are aimed at older
people and adults because of the language used in the magazine. For gender, the
gender of Mojo magazine would be for mostly the male gender. For class, the
class for Mojo magazine would be working/middle class because the magazine
produces informal language that would be suitable for adults and people that of
the working class.
The magazine production
process
Date of population- firstly, you get set up a data publication. This is when you want the magazine to be
realised to the public. Music magazines take around two months to produce and plan because there is a lot
of research to be completed.
Managing the schedule- secondly, once the date of publication has been set up, a schedule will be created.
This is because if you want your magazine to be produced effectively then a schedule would need to be
made. The pros to a schedule is that if anything changes from the initial plan, there will be an alternative
plan. Having this will allow deadlines to be made.
Editorial and budgetary decisions- this part of the production process is where the editorial team make a
decision on what will be included in the magazine, for example articles, competitions, pictures and news
stories. After this the team make budgetary decisions, looking for money this is available to them.
Content Acquisition- this part they decide who is going to create the content, they choose between in-
house writers or external writers t write about specific topics. Furthermore illustrations are also created.
Sub editing- the next step which is taken focuses on quality control of the magazine, the person that is
usually responsible for this job is the sub editor. This sub editing involves spelling and grammar, mistakes
page layout and article facts.
Page layout- the editorial team will decide the layout of the magazine. They do this because it allows the
reader to read the magazine clearly
Proof reading- this stage is where the first copy of the magazine is developed and will be looked over by the
editorial team. For example they will look out for any spelling and layout mistakes, if they find these, a new
version will be created and printed.
Publication and distribution- once all these processes have been completed, the magazine will be sent out
to print and then once printed, it will be distributed to the stores and then to the public.
Email to Bauer media
This is my email that I
sent to Bauer media
asking if they produce a
production plan in Mojo
magazine publishment.
I will soon receive an
email from Bauer media
about their production
plans and they will offer
me with information
about this.
Website annotations
On the website of Mojo magazine, as you can see I went onto the website
and found the social medias that Mojo magazine have so readers can
connect and keep updated with the news and publishments. As you can
see Mojo magazine have used dark colours to place each of the social
medias where you can find the magazine, they have done this so it stands
out to readers. They have used these particular colour because it is the
main colour they use for Mojo magazine including others such as blue and
red. On the website as you can see they have laid it out in a professional
manner, they have the title which is “Mojo magazine” in bold letters and
the logo black in all capital letters.
Market Position
Chart 1 shows how Bauer
have a 44% of the music
magazine market, with IPC
15% behind connotes that
Bauer is the primary
publishing house when it
comes to music magazines.
Chart 2 however shows that NME
and the fly are the most popular
music magazines on the market and
these are owned by IPC and Music &
Media Group. Bauer seems to get its
market share from producing more
than one type of music magazine
genre.
Market Position
In the table above, it highlights some titles of some magazines which have the
total amounts for example MOJO has the highest amount and Kerrangl has the
lowest amount.

feature social media such as
Facebook because then it would
update you on the artists life and by
using their up to date information in
their lives, I could then make it into
an article on my new magazine
I have chosen the pop singer
“Selena Gomez” to feature in my
magazine because she would
attract a younger audience and by
using this artist that I have chosen
would attract the audience
because she makes pop music so
therefore it will be aimed at a
young audience and young adults
I have also chosen Instagram

because again to keep an up
to date information about the
artistes I have chosen and to
know what is going on in their
lives.
Lastly I have chosen “Ed
Sheeran” to feature in my
magazine because the
type of music he produces
would attract a younger
audience and because my
magazine is mainly based
for young viewers then it
would attract more
people in reading the

Colour scheme-the colour of Q magazine
is the colour red which connotes

colours such as red, blue and black to
attract a younger audience which would
attract them to read it

£3.99, this would also link to my
own magazine because my
magazine would cost £3.85, this is
quite a expensive price because it
would attract the reader to buy it
Frequency of Release- Q magazine is
released on a monthly basis, this is because
the magazine is quite expensive and the
content is greater than other weekly
magazines, this would also link to my own
magazine because my magazine will also be
monthly based and would have greater
content
Target Audience- The target audience of
Q magazine are young people and
teenagers, from the ages of 25 and
younger, the genre of Q magazine is
electric. This is the same with my own
magazine because my magazine would be
aimed at young people and adults and I
want my magazine to be successful like Q
so I need to ’repeat’ (Steve Neale – 1980)
certain conventions.
Images- on the front cover of
Q magazine it shows Florence
and the machine, Q magazine
used her because she is a
popular music artist and so it
would attract more people to
read the magazine. This is
similar to my new magazine
because I will also use a new
and popular artist on the
front cover to attract people
to read it . This image of the
artist will be a close up, this is
so the reader can identify the
body language in the image
Brand identity-specific features
that are shown on Q magazine
are self advertisement and it is
applied through articles and
personal articles about the
artist, this would be the same
with my magazine because my
magazine will be appealed
through social media and would
have personal articles about the
artist

Thirdly I have chosen the artist “Ed

because again he is a very popular artist in
which he would draw in young teenagers
and also he is a big inspiration to people.
And finally, I have chosen
“facebook” because again
it is popular on social

people updated on the
different artists, it would
show them information
about them, who they are
and what they are famous
for.
Mind Map
Target audience-the target
audience for Mojo magazine is
adults and young adults that are
interested in classical rock music
magazines, it focuses on the
genre of their music and the
magazine that is a

feature a more older and wider

Images- on the front cover of
Mojo magazine it shows the
main image that is linked to
the main cover line. It has a
medium close up of the
women in the image , the artist
is wearing heavy make up and
as the genre of the magazine is
classical music which links to
the fact that she is
representing classical music.
Colour scheme- the
colour scheme of mojo

bold colours such as gold

stand out very well
against the background,
the colours used are quite
bright and happy colours

First front cover Hand Drawn Drafts
Magazine Logo- I have chosen to
place my magazine logo on the left
top corner of the front cover, I
chose this part in particular because
it is easy for the readers and it
would be the first thing they would
see. I have been inspired to put the
magazine logo in this particular
place because of Q magazine, this is
because It is my magazine of
inspiration. I have chosen these
particular colours on the magazine
logo because Q magazine has a red
logo, I have then got the idea of
using the same colour. This will
show that my magazine is similar to
Q magazine.
Main story- I have decided to place my
main story on the right hand side of the
front cover because I thought that
readers will notice it straight away and
as it is close to the main image, it will
encourage readers to pick it up and read
it. When creating my front cover, I will
then include a pull quote so readers will
attracted by what it says and it will
encourage more people to read the
magazine. I thought by placing the main
story there, it will have a clear view of
the magazine logo and the main image. I
was inspired by Q magazine to place it in
this particular area, other Q magazines
have this in the same place, this will
show I am following my magazine of
inspiration.
Puff promotion- when placing the puff
promotion on the top left hand corner, I
chose to place it in this particular place
because it is similar to my magazine of
inspiration which is Q magazine. I
thought placing it here will attract
readers to the magazine by paying
attract to the logo and what the logo
looks like. This will also encourage the
reader to buy the magazine because the
logo is eye catching to the reader and
will be the main thing that they will see.
Magazine layout- when creating the hand
drawn drafts for my magazine, I wanted to
make sure that they look professional and
eye catching for the reader to see, this will
more likely attract the reader to read the
magazine. I wanted to carefully think about
where I wanted to place certain things such
as the masthead and the puff promotion. In
order to do this I have looked at my
magazine of inspiration which is Q magazine
and followed a similar layout so readers will
know it is my magazine of inspiration.
Article feature- on this hand drawn
draft, I was aiming to include the
content and what readers will see
when they open the magazine. Then
I will make the title of the pages
smaller in order for the readers
more about the content of the
magazine and the artist it is talking
about.
Second front cover hand
drawn draft
Cover lines- as the main story is
just below the main image, I
have decided to put the cover
lines to the right of the page so it
is more eye catching for the
reader. When creating the
layout of this magazine front
cover, I had to make sure that
the cover lines didn’t overlap
with anything else on the font
cover. I will then make sure of
this by carefully placing my cover
lines onto my second front cover
idea.
Bar code- on the bar code it
will include the issue number
of when the magazine will be
published, the month and the
price of the magazine. This is
always at the bottom of the
page on a magazine front
cover because it is less
important compared to the
main image or the logo.
House style- features from my second front
cover, the font and the size are chosen
specifically for my magazine, I will then
repeat this throughout my magazine to show
consistency. This will then show readers that
I am using this throughout my magazine so it
doesn’t look different to the readers. I plan
to use the drop capital for my main articles,
this will then imply that the article is
important and readers will be attracted to
reading it because it stands out then
anything else of the page.
Strapline- for my strapline, I
have decided to place it just
above my magazine logo, I have
done this because it will interest
the reader because it will be
appealing and will stand out.
This is similar to my magazine of
inspiration which is Q magazine
because they used a similar
layout. The purpose of doing
this is to show readers that I
have made a similar magazine
to Q, also when they see the
strapline they will associate it
with the brand and it will
become popular to readers the
age group that will be
interested in it.
Technological convergence- I plan
to include technological
convergence on the front cover of
the magazine that I will create. I will
put social media’s and other links to
show readers that they can also find
the magazine on types of social
medias so they can learn more
about it and so that they will never
miss an issue. I will place it at the
bottom left of the page in the
barcode for the readers to see on
the magazine.
First double page spread hand drawn draft
Main image- I created this double page spread by looking at my
magazine of inspiration which is Q magazine, I thought it was a
good idea for the image to be a big part of the double page spread.
This will be eye catching to the reader and will be the first thing the
reader sees, I then positioned the masthead just above the main
image to again attract the readers attention.
Information about
the artist- this
includes specific
information that
readers would like to
know about the
artist, which includes
information about
who they are and
how they got famous
and why they are
popular to the public.
Article images- on this
double page spread, I will
be including smaller
images to represent the
main image and to tell the
reader abit about what
they will be reading. Also
the smaller images can
refer back to the article
which readers could find
interesting, this will also
encourage the reader to
read the article and find
out what it is about.
Interview- I have placed the interview in columns, as you can see in this
double page spread, I have done this make it more interesting for the
reader. An interview in a magazine is personal information about the
artist and their life, this will encourage readers to find out more about
the artist that they like and admire. I have also placed it in columns
because it will seem like a build up for the reader, I have used questions
and answers in the interview to show that it is professionally laid out and
tells readers information about the artist.
Second double page spread hand
drawn draftPull Quote-from
interview: I added in
a pull quote to my
interview so readers
would find it more
interesting. I put the
pull quote above the
anchorage text so
readers will see it
straight away and will
be interested in
reading the interview
as a whole. This is
simular to my
magazine of
inspiration which is Q
because they use a
simular layout in
order to attract
readers.
Main image- the layout I used on this double page spread is
slightly different to my other double page spread because the
main image is not as revealing as in my other double page
spread. I have separated the image from the other things such
as the pull quote because I thought that the pull quote would tell
the reader what the double page spread is mainly about. The
main image will be the first thing that the reader will see and
they will be already interested by looking at the main image and
the title.
Stand First-the stand
first is very important on
a double page spread
because it explains
about the topic and this
will get readers
interested because it
will give them a brief
idea about what they
are about to read.
Graphic Front Cover Analysis
I chose the layout for the first front cover because It
linked back to the magazine which I originally studied
which was “Q magazine”. I put the logo in the first layout
in the top right hand corner because it seemed
professional and certain to use a logo in a magazine and
a logo really stands out in a magazine because it would
be the first/second thing the reader would notice on the
front cover. Second I chose to put the main image in the
middle because it will be the first thing the reader will
see and the image is bigger than anything else on the
front cover so the reader would notice It.

This is my first
proposal for
“Sound”
magazine which
shows the format,

audience for

aimed at

adults, the length

for example how
many pages it will
have and the
frequency such as
the price of the
magazine.
Front Cover Analysis
Masthead-One of the
important features
about Q magazine is
the masthead and
strapline. This is
because it shows the
reader that the
magazine is of high
importance and is
professional to catch
the readers attention
and the high quality of
the magazine.
The variety of the text
font draws the
attention of the
readers because it
includes the brand
names on this front
cover of Q and it is eye
catching for the reader
Brand Identity-Another visual
code of this front cover is the
“puff promotions” which will
be used to inform the reader
of the extra content that is
available on the page. The
different shape of the page
draws in readers to notice it
and they will also notice the
majority of artist names on
the page.
This analysis highlight
what I will ‘repeat’
(Steve Neale) in my
magazine.
This is the barcode for Q
magazine front cover, which
includes the issue, date
when it was published.
This is the coverlines where it
gives you stories which will be
inside the magazine so the
audience see what they are
going to be reading.
Double Page Spread Analysis
Main image-One of
the main features of
Q magazine double
page spreads that I
plan to include is the
main image,
technical code
which will be the
one shot type, this
will be focused with
a long shot of the
artist, I plan to
repeat some of the
ideas to Q magazine
to ensure that I am
using my magazine
of inspiration.
Drop Capital- In this double
page spread a drop capital
has been used. This method
attracts the readers
attention to the start of the
text. To catch the readers
attention the title is in a red
colour and it is presented as
bold, this would relate to
my magazine of inspiration
because Q magazine is
presented as the colour red.
This will be repeated in my
magazine because I am
going to use similar colours
to Q magazine.
The stand first- On the double page
spread for the magazine I will choose
to place the stand first above the
main body of the text, this is so the
reader will exactly know where it is
and will be attracted to the large text
and will continue to read the article.
Magazine Masthead/logo
When creating my masthead/logo I wanted to make sure that it is easy to read
for the readers and it is eye catching as it will be the first thing the readers will
look at when they see my magazine. I had to make sure that my logo was
similar to my magazine of inspiration which is Q, I will make sure it has bold
block colours such as red or black. In the end I chose black so that it would fit
with the image of Q magazine. The colour black connotes mystery and
darkness, this will make the readers interested because it gives it a sense of
mystery when reading my magazine.
House style consistency- By looking for fonts and colour
choices of the magazine, I have decided to constantly use
different features throughout my magazine. An example of
this would be by using my magazine logo on every page
that I then create for my magazine, by including this will
make the readers interested because it is different from
any other magazine, this will show readers appreciation of
my magazine

Sound
As shown below there is my
front for both my masthead
and the official name of my
magazine which is called
Sound.
This highlights the different font names I am going to use for each magazine convention.
House Style of the magazine -
SOUND
When creating different for Q I though it was important to include the details of the
house styles and colours in which I will use on my created magazine. In each of my
proposals there was an outline on what is going to be included in the magazine and
the features such as colour schemes and logos.
Colour scheme
For Q the house style is the colour scheme. They have
chosen the colours to be bright dark red, black and
blue. The red will connote to the readers that I am
taking ideas from my magazine of inspiration and also
the how professional they have laid out the magazine.
the colour scheme will be continued on every page of
the magazine.
Masthead
When deciding on the
masthead for the magazine I
thought I would have it similar
to the colour scheme and
similar to my magazine of
inspiration which is Q magazine
and I will also use similar
colours to Q such as the colour
red. I will use other colours like
black and blue to create my
masthead. I will use effects
such as make the masthead
stand out and look professional
in my magazine.
Magazine Fonts and Colours -
SOUND
• When deciding the magazine fonts for my magazine, I had to be
very specific when using the font because it could effect the way in
which my magazine is presented. I have chosen specific fonts
because my magazine is aimed at the higher end of the market
when it comes to a variety of people.
• I have chosen several fonts that will be used in my magazine. there
is a large range of fonts that are easier to read than others when
sized differently. For the main text of my magazine which is going
to be the same because it shows that there is consitantency
throughout my magazine and it prevents it from looking messy and
un-professional, other fonts such as “neon 80s” are going to be
used in my magazine because they are easier to read and will have
a smaller font size, furthermore I would concentrate on using these
type of fonts in the article of my magazine.
Volume House Style
The house style for volume consists of the masthead which is located on the top left to
show that I have followed my magazine of inspiration which is Q. Q magazine’s masthead is
located at the same position as Volume magazine, this is so the reader can clearly see what
the magazine is called and what it’s logo is throughout the magazine. Volume magazine will
use the same masthead, colour scheme and fonts all throughout the magazine’s they
produce to show that it is consistent. Volume magazine will use a variety of images in
different types of shots such as a close up, this is to show the readers to look at the image
and they will automatically think it is important to look at on the page. All of the images
used on the front cover of the magazine are model suggested which means that readers
would recgonise the person on the front cover straight away which means they will be
more likely to be interested in reading the magazine. The layout of Volume magazine is
very similar to Q magazine which consists of titles which create a frame around the artist,
which would mean that the artist is the most important part on the page, this would also
encourage readers to buy the magazine.
Magazine Market place
One of the ways my magazine will be marketed will be through content which is going to
be published in my magazine so the readers will think it is very professional and has good
quality. The advertising for my magazine will be built up through social media which will IS
‘below the line’ advertising.
Another thing I could use by gaining a relationship with the audience and with SOUND is I
could reduce the price so it will be cheaper for everyone to afford getting a copy and I
could also reduce the amount of content so that the price can be reduced and so my
magazine will be popular and appropriate for young people and adults.
S Sound
As shown below there is my front for both my
masthead and the official name of my
magazine which is called Sound.
Target audience for both
magazines
Before looking at the needs of my own
magazine “Sound and Volume” I
wanted to look at its magazine of
inspiration “Q magazine”. By doing so I
could look at where Q magazine are
losing relationship and thinking of new
and better ideas to use in my magazine
“Sound”.
At Hartley's 7 subjectivities this chart
connotes that the percentage of
readers that are aged 15-24 years old.
The target audience and relationship of Q
magazine would be according to the socio-
economic need chart has a high percentage
of readers. This means that the magazine is
very popular and draws in the attention of the
readers to read Q magazine.
According to Maslow, Sound and VOLUME
magazine is fitted into the category of
“survivors” because it will know that the readers
will know when the magazine will be published
and what information it will be receiving.
According to Katz, Sound and VOLUME
magazine is fitted into the category of
‘inform and educate’ meaning that
everything they will read will give them
different information about the magazine.
Target Audience for SOUND
According to Sound, it would fit into the category of personal
identification for Katz because the audience of Sound
magazine would relate to the artist and the information being
produced of that particular artist
for Hartley category, the age group of Sound magazine would
fit into 16-25 year olds that are interested, it will be for both
genders but mainly females and finally for class, it would fit
into the category of young working class students, which
means that Sound is targeted at young people that have
working jobs.
Finally for Maslow, Sound would fit into the category of
Explorers which means that the readers of Sound magazine
will experience reading something different every week when
it is published.
Target Audience for SOUND
According to the psychographics table, the
target audience for Sound would fit into the
category of ‘Reformers’ because Sound’s
target audience would like to be aware of the
new information which would be published
each month for viewers to read, also the
audience would select products of Sound
magazine that were at top quality. Also the
target audience would be also aimed at
‘strugglers’ as they seek escape and the people
in the D and E demographic which is targeted
from Q magazine that Sound magazine was
inspired from. Lastly the target audience
would be ‘Aspirers’ because Sound magazine is
related to younger people who seek status
which therefore they would be interested in
Sound magazine because it would seek a lower
status which means young viewers would
more likely be interested.
Interview Draft Planning
For my double page spread within the magazine I am going to construct an interview
with a well known artist “Florence and the Machine” as well as featuring her in the
double spread for my magazine, she will also be the main headline for my magazine and
she will also interest the audience because she is a very popular artist and she would
make the audience become interested considering she will be featuring in the
magazine..
I have chosen to interview “Florence and the machine” because she is a well known
artist and has been in the music industry for a very long time, she has been a great
success in the music industry and has made a great impact on people today. Florence
has made three up coming albums and nearly made the top charts in 2013, her recently
realised song “what kind of man” created a very emotional but understanding impact to
her fans and was a great hit when it first came out. the song would draw in readers
because they would recognise Florence on the front cover headline and they would be
interested straight away because she is a very popular and she would get the audiences
attention. I want to interview her because it would create a positive impact on readers
and she would be a great inspiration to both young people and adults.
The presentation of the interview on the double page spread will be laid out as a
question and answer style. This is quite typical in many magazines, it makes it easier for
the reader to understand the information that is being published in the questionnaire.
Interview Questions and Answers
Jess Blundell 16, talks about her new and upcoming album and shares advice to
people about going into a music career.
FD: Hello Jessica, it is good to final have a chat with you, how has your past week
been?
JB: It’s been great thanks for asking, it was very busy but exciting at the same
time, as I am getting ready for my tour.
FD: How do you feel that your new song went to the top of the charts in just a
week?
JB: I was really amazed and thankful for my fans support, I found that my song
really inspired my fans and just people in general, sometimes when I have a bad
day I think about how supportive my fans are and then I start to think about the
song and how it made people feel.
FD: So how does your song writing process work?
JB: Well I start off thinking about the song beat then I get some ideas from the
people that help with creating my songs. I do admit they give me inspiration to
write songs, they give me a few ideas that I could use, I think of lyrics for them
and then we think of a name for the song.
FD: So your new album is being released soon, what can we expect from it?
JB: JB: You can expect a lot of emotions from it, I was aiming at getting my fans to understand the different types of
music I create and what the message is in the song.
FD: Have you learnt any important or tough lessons from your early experiences of the music industry?
JB: Well it is very hard to get into the music industry, when you get in to it there’s no going back to a normal person,
your automatically known to the public and sometimes it is can be very tough as you do not have much privacy.
FD: I heard that you sold out your tour, how does that feeling of thousands of people wanting to see you feel like?
JB: It’s shocking to be honest; it makes me feel happy that I'm making other people happy when they listen to my
music and its also shocking how thousands of people look up to me as a person and not just a singer. I try my best to
do a lot for my fans as they got me where I am today.
FD: That must be such a great feeling, where are you touring first?
JB: It really is, I will be touring at Wembley first and then I will be going to Manchester, I hope to see all of you at
Sound there, as I am so excited (laughs).
FD: We will be there! What song will you be opening with first at Wembley?
JB: It is a surprise but I will tell you, as I am nice like that. I will be opening with you got the love, I decided to write the
song you got the love because at the time I was having a really happy relationship with my boyfriend which made me
think of the song.
FD: Wow that’s very nice to hear that your boyfriend inspired you to write the song, are you still with him at
the moment?
JB: Indeed I am, we have been together for a few years now and were still happy to this day, he is actually
inspiring me to make other songs that relate to us, and I’m sure I will produce a new album with his
involvement.
FD: As your boyfriend isn’t in the limelight like you do you prefer this? And does he mind you always being on
TV and in the public eye?
JB: Sometimes he gets a bit jealous and would like to be in the public eye as well like me but he’s very
supportive when it comes to creating music and he helps me whenever the public and the music gets stressful
and hard sometimes.
FD: That is so lovely that he is so supportive of you, looks like you have found yourself a keeper there. Thank
you so much for taking the time to answer these questions, it sounds like you’re in a great place right now and
we really enjoy listening to your music.
FD: It’s really nice that he helps you get through tough times, would you ever let him do a duet with you?
JB: (laughs) Don’t be so silly, he cannot sing but I would give him credit if he tries and I would support him
even though I know it’s bad myself.
FD: We’re really happy that you’re having a great relationship, do you have time to go on holiday this year,
and if so where are you planning to go?
JB: Actually we have booked to go to the Caribbean for 2 weeks, it will be a nice break from making music and
it will be nice to enjoy the weather and being on a nice beach and I cant forget the great unlimited buffet
food.
FD: I bet everyone is very jealous of you; I can’t wait for a sunny holiday. Thank you so much for taking the
time to answer these questions, it sounds like you’re in a great place right now and we really enjoy listening
to your music.

Conclusion
In my research outcome I have focused on the music generation for the
music magazine. This was first started from two different proposals that are
used for a different indie magazine. I then created plans for both which
includes a mind map, two mood boards, hand draw sketch drawings and
graphic layouts. By making these I have decided on my final magazine idea.
Once I have decided I then researched my magazine of inspiration “Q
magazine”. In this magazine I would base ideas from Q to then create a
magazine of my own, I also looked at how Q produces their articles and
interviews where I planned to repeat the idea onto my magazine such as the
language of Q and the image style. Furthermore I looked at this further
generation In which I could appeal the best to the readers of my magazine.
Finally I produced some draft sketch ups of the front cover and double page
spread. Certain features of the front over and double page spread were
repeated from Q magazine. By creating these drafts it made it easier to make
my final product that is going to be created.

House Style of the magazine
When creating house style for Q I thought it was important to include the details of
the house styles and colours in which I will use on my created magazine. In each of my
proposals there was an outline on what is going to be included in the magazine and
the features such as colour schemes and logos.
Colour scheme
For Sound magazine, the house style is the colour
scheme. They have chosen the colours to be bright
dark red, black and blue. The red will connote to the
readers that I am taking ideas from my magazine of
inspiration and also the how professional they have
laid out the magazine. the colour scheme will be
continued on every page of the magazine.
Masthead
When deciding on the
masthead for my magazine
sound, I thought I would have it
similar to the colour scheme
and similar to my magazine of
inspiration which is Q magazine
and I will also use similar
colours to Q such as the colour
red. I will use other colours like
black and blue to create my
masthead. I will use effects
such as make the masthead
stand out and look professional
in my magazine.
Test Photography
In my test photography I have taken 6 images of the person that
is featured on my created front covers and double page spreads.
I will use these images in my magazine to demonstrate that I
have used different images to attract the audience.
Photo shoot plan
I carried out a Photoshoot
plan in order to identify who
I am going to use for the
pictures I will be taking,
what they will be wearing in
the Photoshoot and what
equipment I will need in
order to do this.
Target audience for both
magazines
Before looking at the needs of my own
magazine “Sound and Volume” I
wanted to look at its magazine of
inspiration “Q magazine”. By doing so I
could look at where Q magazine are
losing relationship and thinking of new
and better ideas to use in my magazine
“Sound”.
At Hartley's 7 subjectivities this chart
connotes that the percentage of
readers that are aged 15-24 years old.
The target audience and relationship of Q
magazine would be according to the socio-
economic need chart has a high percentage
of readers. This means that the magazine is
very popular and draws in the attention of the
readers to read Q magazine.
According to Maslow, Sound and VOLUME
magazine is fitted into the category of
“survivors” because it will know that the
readers will know when the magazine will
be published and what information it will
According to Katz, Sound and VOLUME
magazine is fitted into the category of
‘inform and educate’ meaning that
everything they will read will give them
different information about the magazine.
Target Audience for SOUND
According to Sound, it would fit into the category of personal
identification for Katz because the audience of Sound
magazine would relate to the artist and the information being
produced of that particular artist
for Hartley category, the age group of Sound magazine would
fit into 16-25 year olds that are interested, it will be for both
genders but mainly females and finally for class, it would fit
into the category of young working class students, which
means that Sound is targeted at young people that have
working jobs.
Finally for Maslow, Sound would fit into the category of
Explorers which means that the readers of Sound magazine
will experience reading something different every week when
it is published.
Target Audience for SOUND
According to the psychographics table, the
target audience for Sound would fit into the
category of ‘Reformers’ because Sound’s
target audience would like to be aware of the
new information which would be published
each month for viewers to read, also the
audience would select products of Sound
magazine that were at top quality. Also the
target audience would be also aimed at
‘strugglers’ as they seek escape and the people
in the D and E demographic which is targeted
from Q magazine that Sound magazine was
inspired from. Lastly the target audience
would be ‘Aspirers’ because Sound magazine is
related to younger people who seek status
which therefore they would be interested in
Sound magazine because it would seek a lower
status which means young viewers would
more likely be interested.
Survey Monkey
Question 1-Gender
As you can see they are
more female viewers
than male. I will use
this information to
mainly base my
magazine on female
readers.
Question 2 -Age
In this question it is
shown that the age that
people are at the ages
of 13-18 years old. I am
going to consider this in
my magazine because I
am going to mainly aim
it at young people, this
will show that by
creating my magazine
about young people
that it will be popular
and eye catching to the
audience.
Question 3
In this question it is
shown that my
viewers that have
taken my music
magazine
questionnaire have
chosen “never” to
buy a music
magazine. This
shows that that
particular answer is
the most frequently
picked in my
questionnaire.
Question 4
In this question it
shows the articles/
interviewers my
viewers have chosen
to be in my magazine. I
will use this
information in my
created magazine to
show that I have
listened to my viewers
responses and will use
this information to
then create a popular
magazine which will
interest the teenagers
and young adults.
Question 5
In this question it
shows how many
people said yes or no
to subscribing to a
music magazine, it is
clearly shown that
most of the viewers
that have taken my
questionnaire have
chosen “no” to
wanting to subscribe
or are considering in
subscribing to a
music magazine. I
will use this
information in my
magazine by not
pressuring my
viewers to subscribe
to the magazine.
Question 6
In this question it
shows how frequently
people would like the
magazine to be
published. As you can
see most of the people
have chosen monthly to
be the published
magazines in my
magazine that I am
creating. I will use this
information in my
magazine to make it a
monthly magazine
instead of weekly.
Question 7
In this question it shows
the genre of music that
people prefer listening
to, in the chart it shows
that pop is the most
popular genre that was
chosen in my
questionnaire. I will then
use this information to
create a music magazine
that is based on pop
music and pop artists.
Question 8
In this question it
shows how much
people will be willing to
pay for a magazine. As
you can see the most
people would pay is £1-
2 on a magazine. I will
use this information to
base my magazine price
on £1-2 because then it
will make my magazine
more popular and it
would interest the
public.
Question 9
In this question it
shows if people would
consider a prize in the
magazine. As you can
see a majority of
people have chosen
“concert tickets” as the
most popular prize in
my questionnaire. I will
use this information by
considering in adding a
prize in my magazine
that I am going to be
creating.
Question 10
In this question it
shows if people would
buy a music magazine
just because it has a
free gift in it. As you
can see most people
are considering in
buying a music
magazine just
because of a free gift
inside. I will use this
information in my
magazine by placing a
free gift in It to attract
the audience to my
magazine.
Spending Power
For “Sound” magazine, the target
audience will be mainly aimed at young
people and teenagers and the power It
will have compared to Q magazine. I
am predicting the information and
published information on Q magazine. I
have chosen Q magazine to be my
magazine of inspiration which produces
similar content which I will use on my
new magazine.
From looking at the table from Bauer media pack, I have analysed that the Q magazine
readers are aged 16-24 years of age. This will be similar to my magazine “sound”
because there are some features and content that will be the same as Q and will
appropriate for the same age ground as Q. this is the reference to Hartley's seven
subjectives’because it shows that I have used age, gender and others that would be
considered spreading the power. The spreading the power of readers will also be similar
to Q magazine.
Step by Step Guide
Front cover
Step 1- while making a front cover you will need to open up Photoshop and create an A4
page spread. Go to File – New – International paper which makes it an A4 sized paper
Step 2- I then started to create my barcode where there was a template in public drive
where you go to CTEC media where you will find a barcode template where you go to
file and place, then you will have your barcode.
Step 3- for the background of my front cover I decided to keep it white so it links to my
magazine of inspiration, if you would like to change the colour at any point then go to
the paint bucket tool, click on a colour that you would want then click on the
background.
Step 4- to create the masthead you would have to click on the pen tool then you would
have to make a shape of a square by clicking each of the points, then you have your
masthead, again to change the colour go to the paint bucket tool.
Step 5-to insert a font you would need to go to either go online and make a font on a
website such as dafont.com then you download the font and it will appear on all the
other fonts on Photoshop then you copy and paste it through and you drag it to where
your masthead is, to resize it you press command T and hold down shift so the font
doesn't’t look pixelated, you will have to do the same for the strapline.
Step by Step Guide
Step 6- to create your puff promotion you will need to go
to the shape tool on Photoshop where you would have to
resize it so it is big as you want it to be, to add colour you
will again have to use the paint bucket tool where you can
choose your colour, and also to add colour on the outside
of the circle you would to use a stroke affect where it
gives you options if you want the colour to be faded or
bold.
Step 7- to add cover lines into your front cover you will
need to add text where you will write promotions to
promote your magazine, you will then need to resize and
drag them both so they are on both sides of the magazine
cover.
Step 8- to add the title of your magazine you will need to
again add text by clicking on the text box tool then you
will need to type in whatever your magazine title is going
to be then you will need to again resize it and make it
stand out by using colour to make it stand out.
Step by step guide continued
Step 1- the first step to creating a double page spread on a magazine would
be to choose a theme that would fit best for your magazine for example
your colour scheme, I choose a white colour faded into a brown/ dark pink
colour for the canvas.
Step 2- the next thing you will need to do was to add a page number to
your double page spread so that readers can see what page it is on
Step 3- for this step you will need to take pictures of your chosen subject,
after taking the images you will need to save them in your file place. After
that you will need to go to file then place in Photoshop and your chosen
image will appear, you will need to quick select you image and move it
when you would like it to go on your double page spread.
Step by Step Guide continued
further
Step 4- for this step I had to paste my interview with the artist
into my double page spread, in order to do this you will have
to copy and paste the information over. After this I had to add
in a drop capital to show it is professionally laid out, I also had
to add the interview between the quote because I was linking
to my magazine of inspiration.
Step 5- I then added the pull quote in between my interview
by using the pen tool then I inserted the quote by using a
different font to make it stand out.
Step 6- the name of the artist was Jess Blundell who featured
on my double page spread and front cover, in the interview I
used a different font to show that it’s professional for the
readers, the colour of the font was black, the drop capital was
red because I wanted to relate it to my magazine of inspiration
which is Q.
Step 7- lastly I had to add my logo/masthead to my double
page spread, my logo/masthead is called sound so I had to add
in the logo, this will create organisation for the readers as I've
added a logo to my front cover, this will also create constantly.

tuff to keep a brave face.
FD: I heard that you sold out your tour, how does that feeling of thousands of people

FD: Thank you Jessica for your time it’s been great talking with you. Do you have any
words of inspiration for your fans that are looking to pursue a music career?
JB: Thank you and my advice to them is to never stop believing in yourself and you will get
there, if your talented at singing then I suggest you keep at it and never stop until you’ve
been noticed by someone.
During my work for
my magazine, I had
to create a interview
draft article for both
magazines “Sound”
and “Volume”
magazine. I had to
write 10 questions,
the interviewer
would ask 5
questions and the
artists would answer
5 questions.
This is my final front cover
idea that I have made. My
magazine of inspiration is
Q, I have based it on Q by
using colours such as red,
black and blue to show
that I have followed my
magazine of inspiration.
While creating my first
front cover, I have
repeated certain things
from my magazine of
inspiration which is Q, I
have used their colour
scheme on both my front
cover and double page
spread. I secondly used the
same font to create my
masthead and puff
promotion. I have done
this to connote that I have
used Q as my magazine of
inspiration.
This is my second idea for
a front cover of my
magazine, I have used
different colours to my
first magazine to show
that I have created two
different magazines. I
have also created a
different masthead to
show that this is a
completely different
magazine front cover to
my first one. During
creating my magazine, I
had to refer back to my
magazine of inspiration. I
have used the same
masthead as Q to
connote I have followed
it for ideas, I have also
used the same puff
promotion and the layout
of Q.
This is my final double page spread of my magazine, as you can see I have followed with
the colour scheme of my magazine of inspiration, I have colours similar to Q such as red
and black. I have also followed my magazine of inspiration which is Florence and the
machine. I have chosen these colours because it makes it easier to see and it also makes
the image stand out. I have repeated a double page spread where the artist Florence is
on the cover, I have then repeated that by using the same layout to again connote that I
am using ideas from Q magazine.
This is my second idea of a double page spread for my magazine, as you can see I have used
different colours to my first idea so it shows that they are two separate double page
spreads. I have used more bright colours than the last one such as yellow, black and white, I
have chosen these colours because they seem to highlight each other and so you can
concentrate more on the image that is shown. When creating this double page spread, I
have repeated certain things from Q magazine such as the layout where Q magazine used
the artist Florence to star in one of their double page spread, I have linked this by using her
as an inspiration for my own magazine by repeated the layout.

First front cover Hand Drawn Drafts
Magazine Logo- I have chosen to
place my magazine logo on the left
top corner of the front cover, I
chose this part in particular because
it is easy for the readers and it
would be the first thing they would
see. I have been inspired to put the
magazine logo in this particular
place because of Q magazine, this is
because It is my magazine of
inspiration. I have chosen these
particular colours on the magazine
logo because Q magazine has a red
logo, I have then got the idea of
using the same colour. This will
show that my magazine is similar to
Q magazine.
Main story- I have decided to place my
main story on the right hand side of the
front cover because I thought that
readers will notice it straight away and
as it is close to the main image, it will
encourage readers to pick it up and read
it. When creating my front cover, I will
then include a pull quote so readers will
attracted by what it says and it will
encourage more people to read the
magazine. I thought by placing the main
story there, it will have a clear view of
the magazine logo and the main image. I
was inspired by Q magazine to place it in
this particular area, other Q magazines
have this in the same place, this will
show I am following my magazine of
inspiration.
Puff promotion- when placing the puff
promotion on the top left hand corner, I
chose to place it in this particular place
because it is similar to my magazine of
inspiration which is Q magazine. I
thought placing it here will attract
readers to the magazine by paying
attract to the logo and what the logo
looks like. This will also encourage the
reader to buy the magazine because the
logo is eye catching to the reader and
will be the main thing that they will see.
Magazine layout- when creating the hand
drawn drafts for my magazine, I wanted
to make sure that they look professional
and eye catching for the reader to see,
this will more likely attract the reader to
read the magazine. I wanted to carefully
think about where I wanted to place
certain things such as the masthead and
the puff promotion. In order to do this I
have looked at my magazine of inspiration
which is Q magazine and followed a
similar layout so readers will know it is my
Article feature- on this hand drawn
draft, I was aiming to include the
content and what readers will see
when they open the magazine. Then
I will make the title of the pages
smaller in order for the readers
more about the content of the
magazine and the artist it is talking
about.
Second front cover hand
drawn draft
Cover lines- as the main story is
just below the main image, I
have decided to put the cover
lines to the right of the page so it
is more eye catching for the
reader. When creating the
layout of this magazine front
cover, I had to make sure that
the cover lines didn’t overlap
with anything else on the font
cover. I will then make sure of
this by carefully placing my cover
lines onto my second front cover
idea.
Bar code- on the bar code it
will include the issue number
of when the magazine will be
published, the month and the
price of the magazine. This is
always at the bottom of the
page on a magazine front
cover because it is less
important compared to the
main image or the logo.
House style- features from my second front
cover, the font and the size are chosen
specifically for my magazine, I will then
repeat this throughout my magazine to show
consistency. This will then show readers that
I am using this throughout my magazine so it
doesn’t look different to the readers. I plan
to use the drop capital for my main articles,
this will then imply that the article is
important and readers will be attracted to
reading it because it stands out then
anything else of the page.
Strapline- for my strapline, I
have decided to place it just
above my magazine logo, I have
done this because it will interest
the reader because it will be
appealing and will stand out.
This is similar to my magazine of
inspiration which is Q magazine
because they used a similar
layout. The purpose of doing
this is to show readers that I
have made a similar magazine
to Q, also when they see the
strapline they will associate it
with the brand and it will
become popular to readers the
age group that will be
interested in it.
Technological convergence- I plan
to include technological
convergence on the front cover of
the magazine that I will create. I will
put social media’s and other links to
show readers that they can also find
the magazine on types of social
medias so they can learn more
about it and so that they will never
miss an issue. I will place it at the
bottom left of the page in the
barcode for the readers to see on
the magazine.
First double page spread hand drawn draft
Main image- I created this double page spread by looking at my
magazine of inspiration which is Q magazine, I thought it was a
good idea for the image to be a big part of the double page spread.
This will be eye catching to the reader and will be the first thing the
reader sees, I then positioned the masthead just above the main
image to again attract the readers attention.
Information about
the artist- this
includes specific
information that
readers would like to
know about the
artist, which includes
information about
who they are and
how they got famous
and why they are
popular to the public.
Article images- on this
double page spread, I will
be including smaller
images to represent the
main image and to tell the
reader abit about what
they will be reading. Also
the smaller images can
refer back to the article
which readers could find
interesting, this will also
encourage the reader to
read the article and find
out what it is about.
Interview- I have placed the interview in columns, as you can see in this
double page spread, I have done this make it more interesting for the
reader. An interview in a magazine is personal information about the
artist and their life, this will encourage readers to find out more about
the artist that they like and admire. I have also placed it in columns
because it will seem like a build up for the reader, I have used questions
and answers in the interview to show that it is professionally laid out and
tells readers information about the artist.
Second double page spread hand
drawn draftPull Quote-from
interview: I added in
a pull quote to my
interview so readers
would find it more
interesting. I put the
pull quote above the
anchorage text so
readers will see it
straight away and will
be interested in
reading the interview
as a whole. This is
simular to my
magazine of
inspiration which is Q
because they use a
simular layout in order
to attract readers.
Main image- the layout I used on this double page spread is
slightly different to my other double page spread because the main
image is not as revealing as in my other double page spread. I
have separated the image from the other things such as the pull
quote because I thought that the pull quote would tell the reader
what the double page spread is mainly about. The main image will
be the first thing that the reader will see and they will be already
interested by looking at the main image and the title.
Stand First-the stand
first is very important
on a double page
spread because it
explains about the
topic and this will get
readers interested
because it will give
them a brief idea
about what they are
about to read.
Advertising, Promoting my magazine
on Facebook
I promoted my magazine by creating a Facebook page where viewers could see the
latest updates of Sound magazine, “digital natives” (Prensky - 2001) would like this
and it highlights how Sound are trying to target the younger audience.
Chosen magazine
This is my chosen magazine masthead, as you can see I have made it similar to my magazine
of inspiration by using the colour red and white. The reason why I have done this is because
I do not want to re-invent the wheel and I want my magazine to be as popular as Q and sell.
Production plan for Sound Magazine
Week 1 beginning on the 1st
of July 2016
Week 2
Week 3
This is my chosen production plan for my chosen magazine “Sound”. I had to create a
Production Plan so I knew what day all the steps were going to get completed.
Week 4
Maslow, Katz and Hartley
My audience for Sound is linked into three categories Maslow, Katz and
Hartley. Studying my audience, I have calculated that for Maslow my
audience is in the category of Explorers and Survivors because when
the magazine will be published it was have different artists and content
on each issue that will be released. For the survivors category, the
readers will know information about the artists and will keep updated
with the published information every week which they will like the
security and routine of knowing this. For Katz Sound would fit into the
category of Diversion because readers can escape reality by reading a
pop magazine and reading about the different artists every week. And
lastly for Hartley, Sound is aimed at young people and teenagers from
the ages of 15-20, it is aimed at both males and females.
This is my first
proposal for
“Sound”
magazine which
shows the format,
working title,
content, style or
approach,
audience, the
length of the
magazine and the
frequency of how
much it will cost.
Flat plan Content
• Chanel Advert
• Ultra Sound Festival
Advert
• Coke cola Advert
• Pepsi Advert
• Sound Live Shakira
• Volvo Advert
• Bruno Mars Interview
• Jess Blundell Interview
Conclusion to LO3
In conclusion to LO3 I have firstly created two proposals of both of my create
magazine “Sound” and “Volume” to mention how I was going to format it,
length of the pages used, working title, genre, content ect. I then created a
flat plan for both magazines to show what will be on each page of the
magazines so viewers will know what to expect on each page. I the when on
to talk about the intended target audience for Q magazine and for example
socio-economic needs and how it relates to my magazines which have been
created after that I had to talk about psychographics and again how it relates
to Q and my magazine, including this I then had to talking about Maslow,
Hartley and Katz and I had to compare my magazine to Q and what was
similar and different to the target audience. Then I had to do a survey
monkey questionnaire for my magazine to see what people would like and
dislike about it. I then had to talk about the frequency of my magazine and
how it would effect Q magazine in future publishments. The second to last
thing I had to do was to analysis my front covers and double page spreads
where I talked about what colours I have used and why and how it was
similar to Q magazine. Lastly I created a step by step guide to review how I
created my magazine front covers and double page spreads in Photoshop.

I have taken three images in the environment where I will present my pitch to the
publishers . I took a picture of firstly the slide changer which will be used throughout
my pitch to change each slide. Secondly I took a picture of my computer screen to
show that I am working on creating my pitch for the publishers. And finally I took a
picture of the board to show that this is the board that my pitch is going to be on
while I am presenting my pitch.
Evidence of Pitch
This is my evidence of my
pitch that I presented, as you
can see I have spoke about my
two magazine ideas and have
spoken about them clearly
and in detail.
Screenshots of pitch
These are some screenshots of my pitch,
I have used these particular screenshots
because it’s shows the promotion of my
chosen magazine, hand drawn front

Feedback of Pitch - Interview
• Did you think my pitch was professionally presented to the audience?
• Did I have a clear and well spoken voice when talking about my two
magazines?
• What could I improve on?
• What went well about my presentation?
• Do you think my appearance and body language was professional and
appropriate to the audience?
• Do you have any further comments to add about my pitch?
• Would there be anything I could add to my pitch to improve and reach
a higher grade? This is feedback from my
pitch that I did, I had an
interview with my client.
Discussing how I did in
my pitch and what I
could improve on next
time.
Feedback of Pitch –
Witness Statement
This is screenshot of the witness
statement feedback that I have
received, I will use this feedback to
improvement on my corrections.
Feedback of Pitch –
Witness Statement
This is my witness statement that
highlights corrections and
improvements that I have to make in
order to improve my pitch, so that it
would show that I have corrected my
improvements.
Feedback of Pitch – Survey
Monkey
Question 1- What
would you rate the
quality of my pitch out
of 5? I wanted a clear
understanding of how
the quality of my pitch
was out of five. As you
can see from the
screenshot, the
feedback I was given
on this question was a
rate of 3 or 4, these
are both average
results.
Question 2- which
magazine did you
prefer? For the
second question I
wanted to see which
magazine they
preferred, as you can
see the results show
that a majority of
people preferred
sound magazine.
Question 3- how likely
are you to purchase my
magazine? in this
question it clearly
shows that I have been
given written feedback,
I will use this
information and
feedback that I have
received to improve my
pitch
Question 4- could I
develop in any areas of
my pitch, if so what are
they? This is another
written feedback
question,
Pitch Improvements
My first correction I had
to make was to include
in m pitch Katz, Maslow
and Hartley, I have taken
a screenshot of both the
correction shown on my
witness statement and a
screenshot of the
PowerPoint slide in
which I have created. I
have spoke about the
age, personal
relationship, gender ect
Pitch improvements continued
Another improvement I had to make was to
include my test photography for my artist in
my pitch presentation, as you can see I have
then included my test photography to show
that I corrected my improvement.
And finally the final correction I am going to
show in my LO5 work would be to also add
into my pitch the font and colours slide, as you
can see I have shown that I have included this
into my pitch.
Photoshop improvements-front cover
On the spreadsheet improvements, it stated that my headline on
the magazine was too small. I have then improved this by making
the font bigger in order for the readers to see it.
Changing the main image-while making corrections to my final
magazine front cover, I had to completely change the main image, I
did this by taking a completely different picture of a new pose that
was inspired of my magazine of inspiration. When I successfully
happy with the picture I had taken, I uploaded it onto my front
cover and enlarged the image where I wanted it to go.
Changing the colours-in order to make my magazine similar to Q
magazine which is my inspirational magazine, I had to change the
colours in order for it to look like Q magazine. I did this by changing
the colours of the main headlines and I also used colours of my own
choice such as black.
Photoshop improvements-double page spread
this is my before and after double page spread, the
one on the top is my first double page spread that I
created, the other one is my final double page spread
that will be used in my magazine. I had to completely
change the layout of the double page spread, in order
to do this I had to refer back to my magazine of
inspiration which is Q magazine.
Changing the image-the first correction I had to make
was to completely change the image that was
originally on the double page spread, I done this by
taking a completely new image and then inserted it
into the double page spread where I wanted it to go.
changing the main title-in order to link my created
double page spread to my magazine of inspiration, I
had to change the main title which is the name of the
artist. I done this by inserting the text where I would
type the name of the artist, I then changed the font of
the text I want to use, enlarged the text and placed it
where I wanted it to go.

Calendar Events
My magazine “Sound” will be published on the 28th
July 2016, which
would reflect on specific things such as music festivals because as
Sound will be making their first copy in July, this will include
content, information about up and coming artists and I have also
feature promotions for my magazine such as festivals and album
releases. This would mean that more people will be interested
considering the weather will be better and the readers could be
more excited to read it.
On the cover of my magazine you will notice that I have created a
puff promotion on the top right hand cover of my magazine front
cover which offers a £10 iTunes voucher. The seasonal holidays will
affect the publishment and production of the magazine which
means it will not be published during the seasonal holidays
Press Complaints Commission
When producing and publishing the magazine, I will have to include the editors code
which can be found on the press complaints commission website. The first thing about
the editors code is to make sure that the magazine is of high standards when it comes
to the making of the magazine and making sure that every page is professorially laid
out. This will include the content and how the company will be able to handle readers
information that is provided so that the magazine will be able to handle the situation
in a reasonable manner.
Overall the information in the editors code must be applied into the magazine that is
created from the magazine development. This will include both printed and online
punishments so readers won't miss an issue of the magazine. This would mean that
the editors can check through the information that is created by the publishers so that
they can make sure that the content is published professionally within the editors
codes instructions.

Press Complaints Commission
Accuracy
The editors code is responsible to ensure that all content that is going to be published
within the magazine is suitable and is going to be featured on the front cover and double
page spread that I have created. These will be featured in the magazine in order to
attract readers to read it. The editors code have to make sure that everything that is
published is “accurate” meaning that there is no spelling mistakes or inaccurate
information such as information about certain artists that are going to be featured in it.
By following the editors code, this will grant them high quality of information that will be
published in the magazine and will also maintain the layout. This will repeat certain
things such as the logo and strapline. Overall accuracy will be used throughout the
magazine and will follow the editors code which will ensure that the content that will be
released is accurate
Privacy
For the magazine front cover and double page spread, I will have to gain permission from
the person that will be featured in the magazine so that it can be published. To make sure
that the editors of the magazine will gain permission, they will have to directly contact the
person that they would like to feature in it, they could possibly do this by email in order for
them to gain permission to take their photograph.
Copyright and Royalties
Copyright- the legal right to be the only one
produce, publish and sell a book, a video or
anything on social media that you have created or
brought out to the public to see, an example of
this would be things such as brochures, books etc.
Royalties- copyright such as songs used in
different promotions to stand out their particular
promotion that they are making.
This relates to my magazine because I would have
to make sure that I ask for permission if I wanted
to use a certain picture of a artist
Editors code of practice
https://www.ipso.co.uk/editors-code-of-practice/
There are codes of practice that
editors have to follow to obey
legal and ethical issues such as:
Clause 1-accuracy
I must make sure my work is
accurate so I'm not publishing
incorrect information about
anyone, specially the artist, I am
going to make sure I do this
especially on the first issue so
readers will be able to gain a good
first impression.
Clause 12-Discrimiation
I must make sure my work doesn’t
discriminate against anyone for
example race, colour, religion and
gender identity.
Editors code of practice
https://www.ipso.co.uk/editors-code-of-practice/
I am going to use these codes in order to improve the quality of the magazine, for
example in clause 1 I am going to improve the accuracy of the magazine content
where I will publish the information I have received and endeavour to not
misrepresent the person being interviewed for example.
I will also use clause 12 where I will make sure that I haven't use any type of
discrimination that may seem offensive to the public eye.
Production Legal and Ethical
Issues
Discrimination-if an article is published and has signs of discrimination, this would mean they are talking about
an individuals race, colour, religion and gender. Examples of discrimination would be racism, harassment and
many others.
Children- people have to be careful about what they say about children in the media industry and content that
is released about them because they are considered innocent and vulnerable. It is important to use permission
from their parents/parent to use their information on the internet if they are under the age of 18, then the
parents or parent will then have to agree to the terms and make sure that they are using necessary content
that is appropriate for the magazine.
Accuracy-content that is published in a magazine must not be inaccurate, this means that the information they produce such as written
information or pictures they use must not be misleading. This means that it must be accurate and not made up or extended.
Furthermore, I need to be accurate in the magazine I am creating because then I will be giving readers the correct information that they
are reading about within the magazine.
https://www.tes.com/lessons/x9hMlieIZ5BXqQ/unit-6-week-5-discrimination
http://www.eastspartachurch.com/childrens-mnistry/
Legal and Ethical Issues
Contract Challenges: when looking through the content of the magazine, it goes through a
contract to the organisation so they will only use copyright on the things that they have created.
When the person/people sign the contract, this will then mean they have to stick to it and it must
not be changed in any way possible. This would also mean that they have control of some of the
rights they have made.
Copyright:Intellectual Property-before making the magazine, I had to research legal areas that I
can then be able to use a type of content in my magazine that I will be producing. Using this, they
will have to ask for permission to use particular content so it can be featured in the magazine and
so it will be safe from paying fines.
Privacy-when publishing content into my magazine, I will have to make sure that I limit people's
privacy that will be featured in the magazine. I will have to make sure that I ask for permission for
any personal details that will be featured before I publish the magazine and with the permission of
the person I would like to feature in the magazine. I have to also made sure not to include
anything negative information about that person so the magazine won't have a negative impact on
the readers and public.
https://www.copyrightservice.co.uk/
When making the magazine, I have to make sure that I
include legal and ethical issues when dealing with the
content that is going to be featured in the magazine.
For example I could talk about private information from
an artist and I will have to deal with what I say and the
limits. I will then create protection copyright so that I
only use it for my organisation and other companies will
not be able to access it.
Risk Assessment
Image risk assessment
before taking images for my magazine I
had to gain full permission for the
person to be photographed and the
image being published which will be
both online and printed. I thought the
best way to do this is to send an email
across to the artist or artists describing
what they have to wear and act like
during these pictures that will be taken.
I have also sent the artist a permission
form which they will have to sign and
what date they would have to send it
back to me. By having permission I will
be able to have a fully signed document
which means that I will be able to take
pictures and use them in my magazine.
Software Risk Assessment
Creating colour swatches
When deciding on the colours to use
on the front cover, I created colour
swatches so I could keep track of what
colour is linked to which part on the
front cover. In the screenshot below, it
shows that I have created and named
colour swatches , I used the colour red
to link to my magazine of inspiration
which is Q magazine , I used this colour
for the masthead and some of the font
on the front cover.
Colour swatches
Conclusion to LO5
In conclusion I have looked into the feedback I was given on my witness statement
and have corrected all things that I needed to improve on, I have been given feedback
such as what I needed to improve on my magazine and the production of the
magazine. I have been giving feedback forms such as witnessstatment, recorded
interview ect. With the online surrey monkey surrey, I thought of going in detail for
the questions that I have created, I analysed them individually to see what question
had the most feedback on it so I could improve on my pitch. I decided to work on the
strengths and weakness of my pitch and the feedback I was given of the presentation,
I thought it was important to go in detail about each thing I had to correct of the
magazine.

  • 58. Conclusion In this LO I have successfully analysed both magazines (Q and Mojo magazine) I have spoken about specific areas such as the front cover analysis and the double page spread analysis with both magazine to see how they are different from each other such as the genres of the magazines.
  • 62. Mood Board In my magazine I would like to feature social media such as Facebook because then it would update you on the artists life and by using their up to date information in their lives, I could then make it into an article on my new magazine I have chosen the pop singer “Selena Gomez” to feature in my magazine because she would attract a younger audience and by using this artist that I have chosen would attract the audience because she makes pop music so therefore it will be aimed at a young audience and young adults I have also chosen Instagram to connote to my magazine because again to keep an up to date information about the artistes I have chosen and to know what is going on in their lives. Lastly I have chosen “Ed Sheeran” to feature in my magazine because the type of music he produces would attract a younger audience and because my magazine is mainly based for young viewers then it would attract more people in reading the magazine
  • 63. Mind Map Generation of Ideas - SOUND Colour scheme-the colour of Q magazine is the colour red which connotes excitement and the boldness of the magazine attracts the reader to read it. This would link to my own magazine because I would use bold and bright colours such as red, blue and black to attract a younger audience which would attract them to read it Price- the price of Q magazine costs £3.99, this would also link to my own magazine because my magazine would cost £3.85, this is quite a expensive price because it would attract the reader to buy it Frequency of Release- Q magazine is released on a monthly basis, this is because the magazine is quite expensive and the content is greater than other weekly magazines, this would also link to my own magazine because my magazine will also be monthly based and would have greater content Target Audience- The target audience of Q magazine are young people and teenagers, from the ages of 25 and younger, the genre of Q magazine is electric. This is the same with my own magazine because my magazine would be aimed at young people and adults and I want my magazine to be successful like Q so I need to ’repeat’ (Steve Neale – 1980) certain conventions. Images- on the front cover of Q magazine it shows Florence and the machine, Q magazine used her because she is a popular music artist and so it would attract more people to read the magazine. This is similar to my new magazine because I will also use a new and popular artist on the front cover to attract people to read it . This image of the artist will be a close up, this is so the reader can identify the body language in the image Brand identity-specific features that are shown on Q magazine are self advertisement and it is applied through articles and personal articles about the artist, this would be the same with my magazine because my magazine will be appealed through social media and would have personal articles about the artist Masthead Names- •M •U •Shuffle •Playlist •Volume •More Music (MM) •SOUND
  • 65. I have chosen the artist “Nicky Minaj” because she is very popular in the pop music industry, she also would attract a younger audience and that would relate to my magazine because it is mainly aimed at young people and she would be a good inspiration to be on the front cover. Secondly I have chosen “twitter” because it is very popular on social media and it would keep people updated on the magazine update and also the different people to feature on my magazine. Thirdly I have chosen the artist “Ed Sheeran” to feature in my magazine because again he is a very popular artist in which he would draw in young teenagers and also he is a big inspiration to people. And finally, I have chosen “facebook” because again it is popular on social media and it would keep people updated on the different artists, it would show them information about them, who they are and what they are famous for.

  • 67. First front cover Hand Drawn Drafts Magazine Logo- I have chosen to place my magazine logo on the left top corner of the front cover, I chose this part in particular because it is easy for the readers and it would be the first thing they would see. I have been inspired to put the magazine logo in this particular place because of Q magazine, this is because It is my magazine of inspiration. I have chosen these particular colours on the magazine logo because Q magazine has a red logo, I have then got the idea of using the same colour. This will show that my magazine is similar to Q magazine. Main story- I have decided to place my main story on the right hand side of the front cover because I thought that readers will notice it straight away and as it is close to the main image, it will encourage readers to pick it up and read it. When creating my front cover, I will then include a pull quote so readers will attracted by what it says and it will encourage more people to read the magazine. I thought by placing the main story there, it will have a clear view of the magazine logo and the main image. I was inspired by Q magazine to place it in this particular area, other Q magazines have this in the same place, this will show I am following my magazine of inspiration. Puff promotion- when placing the puff promotion on the top left hand corner, I chose to place it in this particular place because it is similar to my magazine of inspiration which is Q magazine. I thought placing it here will attract readers to the magazine by paying attract to the logo and what the logo looks like. This will also encourage the reader to buy the magazine because the logo is eye catching to the reader and will be the main thing that they will see. Magazine layout- when creating the hand drawn drafts for my magazine, I wanted to make sure that they look professional and eye catching for the reader to see, this will more likely attract the reader to read the magazine. I wanted to carefully think about where I wanted to place certain things such as the masthead and the puff promotion. In order to do this I have looked at my magazine of inspiration which is Q magazine and followed a similar layout so readers will know it is my magazine of inspiration. Article feature- on this hand drawn draft, I was aiming to include the content and what readers will see when they open the magazine. Then I will make the title of the pages smaller in order for the readers more about the content of the magazine and the artist it is talking about.
  • 68. Second front cover hand drawn draft Cover lines- as the main story is just below the main image, I have decided to put the cover lines to the right of the page so it is more eye catching for the reader. When creating the layout of this magazine front cover, I had to make sure that the cover lines didn’t overlap with anything else on the font cover. I will then make sure of this by carefully placing my cover lines onto my second front cover idea. Bar code- on the bar code it will include the issue number of when the magazine will be published, the month and the price of the magazine. This is always at the bottom of the page on a magazine front cover because it is less important compared to the main image or the logo. House style- features from my second front cover, the font and the size are chosen specifically for my magazine, I will then repeat this throughout my magazine to show consistency. This will then show readers that I am using this throughout my magazine so it doesn’t look different to the readers. I plan to use the drop capital for my main articles, this will then imply that the article is important and readers will be attracted to reading it because it stands out then anything else of the page. Strapline- for my strapline, I have decided to place it just above my magazine logo, I have done this because it will interest the reader because it will be appealing and will stand out. This is similar to my magazine of inspiration which is Q magazine because they used a similar layout. The purpose of doing this is to show readers that I have made a similar magazine to Q, also when they see the strapline they will associate it with the brand and it will become popular to readers the age group that will be interested in it. Technological convergence- I plan to include technological convergence on the front cover of the magazine that I will create. I will put social media’s and other links to show readers that they can also find the magazine on types of social medias so they can learn more about it and so that they will never miss an issue. I will place it at the bottom left of the page in the barcode for the readers to see on the magazine.
  • 69. First double page spread hand drawn draft Main image- I created this double page spread by looking at my magazine of inspiration which is Q magazine, I thought it was a good idea for the image to be a big part of the double page spread. This will be eye catching to the reader and will be the first thing the reader sees, I then positioned the masthead just above the main image to again attract the readers attention. Information about the artist- this includes specific information that readers would like to know about the artist, which includes information about who they are and how they got famous and why they are popular to the public. Article images- on this double page spread, I will be including smaller images to represent the main image and to tell the reader abit about what they will be reading. Also the smaller images can refer back to the article which readers could find interesting, this will also encourage the reader to read the article and find out what it is about. Interview- I have placed the interview in columns, as you can see in this double page spread, I have done this make it more interesting for the reader. An interview in a magazine is personal information about the artist and their life, this will encourage readers to find out more about the artist that they like and admire. I have also placed it in columns because it will seem like a build up for the reader, I have used questions and answers in the interview to show that it is professionally laid out and tells readers information about the artist.
  • 70. Second double page spread hand drawn draftPull Quote-from interview: I added in a pull quote to my interview so readers would find it more interesting. I put the pull quote above the anchorage text so readers will see it straight away and will be interested in reading the interview as a whole. This is simular to my magazine of inspiration which is Q because they use a simular layout in order to attract readers. Main image- the layout I used on this double page spread is slightly different to my other double page spread because the main image is not as revealing as in my other double page spread. I have separated the image from the other things such as the pull quote because I thought that the pull quote would tell the reader what the double page spread is mainly about. The main image will be the first thing that the reader will see and they will be already interested by looking at the main image and the title. Stand First-the stand first is very important on a double page spread because it explains about the topic and this will get readers interested because it will give them a brief idea about what they are about to read.
  • 71. Graphic Front Cover Analysis I chose the layout for the first front cover because It linked back to the magazine which I originally studied which was “Q magazine”. I put the logo in the first layout in the top right hand corner because it seemed professional and certain to use a logo in a magazine and a logo really stands out in a magazine because it would be the first/second thing the reader would notice on the front cover. Second I chose to put the main image in the middle because it will be the first thing the reader will see and the image is bigger than anything else on the front cover so the reader would notice It.

  • 76. This is my second proposal for “Volume” magazine, it includes format, working title, genre, content, style and approach of the magazine, the audience for example if it is aimed at teenagers or adults, the length of the magazine for example how many pages it will have and the frequency such as the price of the magazine.
  • 77. Front Cover Analysis Masthead-One of the important features about Q magazine is the masthead and strapline. This is because it shows the reader that the magazine is of high importance and is professional to catch the readers attention and the high quality of the magazine. The variety of the text font draws the attention of the readers because it includes the brand names on this front cover of Q and it is eye catching for the reader Brand Identity-Another visual code of this front cover is the “puff promotions” which will be used to inform the reader of the extra content that is available on the page. The different shape of the page draws in readers to notice it and they will also notice the majority of artist names on the page. This analysis highlight what I will ‘repeat’ (Steve Neale) in my magazine. This is the barcode for Q magazine front cover, which includes the issue, date when it was published. This is the coverlines where it gives you stories which will be inside the magazine so the audience see what they are going to be reading.
  • 78. Double Page Spread Analysis Main image-One of the main features of Q magazine double page spreads that I plan to include is the main image, technical code which will be the one shot type, this will be focused with a long shot of the artist, I plan to repeat some of the ideas to Q magazine to ensure that I am using my magazine of inspiration. Drop Capital- In this double page spread a drop capital has been used. This method attracts the readers attention to the start of the text. To catch the readers attention the title is in a red colour and it is presented as bold, this would relate to my magazine of inspiration because Q magazine is presented as the colour red. This will be repeated in my magazine because I am going to use similar colours to Q magazine. The stand first- On the double page spread for the magazine I will choose to place the stand first above the main body of the text, this is so the reader will exactly know where it is and will be attracted to the large text and will continue to read the article.
  • 79. Magazine Masthead/logo When creating my masthead/logo I wanted to make sure that it is easy to read for the readers and it is eye catching as it will be the first thing the readers will look at when they see my magazine. I had to make sure that my logo was similar to my magazine of inspiration which is Q, I will make sure it has bold block colours such as red or black. In the end I chose black so that it would fit with the image of Q magazine. The colour black connotes mystery and darkness, this will make the readers interested because it gives it a sense of mystery when reading my magazine. House style consistency- By looking for fonts and colour choices of the magazine, I have decided to constantly use different features throughout my magazine. An example of this would be by using my magazine logo on every page that I then create for my magazine, by including this will make the readers interested because it is different from any other magazine, this will show readers appreciation of my magazine Font name Test Space Comics Fun Sized Ke Aloha Dita Sweet SoundAs shown below there is my front for both my masthead and the official name of my magazine which is called Sound. • 81. House Style of the magazine - SOUND When creating different for Q I though it was important to include the details of the house styles and colours in which I will use on my created magazine. In each of my proposals there was an outline on what is going to be included in the magazine and the features such as colour schemes and logos. Colour scheme For Q the house style is the colour scheme. They have chosen the colours to be bright dark red, black and blue. The red will connote to the readers that I am taking ideas from my magazine of inspiration and also the how professional they have laid out the magazine. the colour scheme will be continued on every page of the magazine. Masthead When deciding on the masthead for the magazine I thought I would have it similar to the colour scheme and similar to my magazine of inspiration which is Q magazine and I will also use similar colours to Q such as the colour red. I will use other colours like black and blue to create my masthead. I will use effects such as make the masthead stand out and look professional in my magazine.
  • 82. Magazine Fonts and Colours - SOUND • When deciding the magazine fonts for my magazine, I had to be very specific when using the font because it could effect the way in which my magazine is presented. I have chosen specific fonts because my magazine is aimed at the higher end of the market when it comes to a variety of people. • I have chosen several fonts that will be used in my magazine. there is a large range of fonts that are easier to read than others when sized differently. For the main text of my magazine which is going to be the same because it shows that there is consitantency throughout my magazine and it prevents it from looking messy and un-professional, other fonts such as “neon 80s” are going to be used in my magazine because they are easier to read and will have a smaller font size, furthermore I would concentrate on using these type of fonts in the article of my magazine.
  • 83. Volume House Style The house style for volume consists of the masthead which is located on the top left to show that I have followed my magazine of inspiration which is Q. Q magazine’s masthead is located at the same position as Volume magazine, this is so the reader can clearly see what the magazine is called and what it’s logo is throughout the magazine. Volume magazine will use the same masthead, colour scheme and fonts all throughout the magazine’s they produce to show that it is consistent. Volume magazine will use a variety of images in different types of shots such as a close up, this is to show the readers to look at the image and they will automatically think it is important to look at on the page. All of the images used on the front cover of the magazine are model suggested which means that readers would recgonise the person on the front cover straight away which means they will be more likely to be interested in reading the magazine. The layout of Volume magazine is very similar to Q magazine which consists of titles which create a frame around the artist, which would mean that the artist is the most important part on the page, this would also encourage readers to buy the magazine.
  • 84. Magazine Market place One of the ways my magazine will be marketed will be through content which is going to be published in my magazine so the readers will think it is very professional and has good quality. The advertising for my magazine will be built up through social media which will IS ‘below the line’ advertising. Another thing I could use by gaining a relationship with the audience and with SOUND is I could reduce the price so it will be cheaper for everyone to afford getting a copy and I could also reduce the amount of content so that the price can be reduced and so my magazine will be popular and appropriate for young people and adults. S Sound As shown below there is my front for both my masthead and the official name of my magazine which is called Sound.
  • 85. Target audience for both magazines Before looking at the needs of my own magazine “Sound and Volume” I wanted to look at its magazine of inspiration “Q magazine”. By doing so I could look at where Q magazine are losing relationship and thinking of new and better ideas to use in my magazine “Sound”. At Hartley's 7 subjectivities this chart connotes that the percentage of readers that are aged 15-24 years old. The target audience and relationship of Q magazine would be according to the socio- economic need chart has a high percentage of readers. This means that the magazine is very popular and draws in the attention of the readers to read Q magazine. According to Maslow, Sound and VOLUME magazine is fitted into the category of “survivors” because it will know that the readers will know when the magazine will be published and what information it will be receiving. According to Katz, Sound and VOLUME magazine is fitted into the category of ‘inform and educate’ meaning that everything they will read will give them different information about the magazine.
  • 86. Target Audience for SOUND According to Sound, it would fit into the category of personal identification for Katz because the audience of Sound magazine would relate to the artist and the information being produced of that particular artist for Hartley category, the age group of Sound magazine would fit into 16-25 year olds that are interested, it will be for both genders but mainly females and finally for class, it would fit into the category of young working class students, which means that Sound is targeted at young people that have working jobs. Finally for Maslow, Sound would fit into the category of Explorers which means that the readers of Sound magazine will experience reading something different every week when it is published.
  • 87. Target Audience for SOUND According to the psychographics table, the target audience for Sound would fit into the category of ‘Reformers’ because Sound’s target audience would like to be aware of the new information which would be published each month for viewers to read, also the audience would select products of Sound magazine that were at top quality. Also the target audience would be also aimed at ‘strugglers’ as they seek escape and the people in the D and E demographic which is targeted from Q magazine that Sound magazine was inspired from. Lastly the target audience would be ‘Aspirers’ because Sound magazine is related to younger people who seek status which therefore they would be interested in Sound magazine because it would seek a lower status which means young viewers would more likely be interested.
  • 88. Interview Draft Planning For my double page spread within the magazine I am going to construct an interview with a well known artist “Florence and the Machine” as well as featuring her in the double spread for my magazine, she will also be the main headline for my magazine and she will also interest the audience because she is a very popular artist and she would make the audience become interested considering she will be featuring in the magazine.. I have chosen to interview “Florence and the machine” because she is a well known artist and has been in the music industry for a very long time, she has been a great success in the music industry and has made a great impact on people today. Florence has made three up coming albums and nearly made the top charts in 2013, her recently realised song “what kind of man” created a very emotional but understanding impact to her fans and was a great hit when it first came out. the song would draw in readers because they would recognise Florence on the front cover headline and they would be interested straight away because she is a very popular and she would get the audiences attention. I want to interview her because it would create a positive impact on readers and she would be a great inspiration to both young people and adults. The presentation of the interview on the double page spread will be laid out as a question and answer style. This is quite typical in many magazines, it makes it easier for the reader to understand the information that is being published in the questionnaire.
  • 89. Interview Questions and Answers Jess Blundell 16, talks about her new and upcoming album and shares advice to people about going into a music career. FD: Hello Jessica, it is good to final have a chat with you, how has your past week been? JB: It’s been great thanks for asking, it was very busy but exciting at the same time, as I am getting ready for my tour. FD: How do you feel that your new song went to the top of the charts in just a week? JB: I was really amazed and thankful for my fans support, I found that my song really inspired my fans and just people in general, sometimes when I have a bad day I think about how supportive my fans are and then I start to think about the song and how it made people feel. FD: So how does your song writing process work? JB: Well I start off thinking about the song beat then I get some ideas from the people that help with creating my songs. I do admit they give me inspiration to write songs, they give me a few ideas that I could use, I think of lyrics for them and then we think of a name for the song.
  • 90. FD: So your new album is being released soon, what can we expect from it? JB: JB: You can expect a lot of emotions from it, I was aiming at getting my fans to understand the different types of music I create and what the message is in the song. FD: Have you learnt any important or tough lessons from your early experiences of the music industry? JB: Well it is very hard to get into the music industry, when you get in to it there’s no going back to a normal person, your automatically known to the public and sometimes it is can be very tough as you do not have much privacy. FD: I heard that you sold out your tour, how does that feeling of thousands of people wanting to see you feel like? JB: It’s shocking to be honest; it makes me feel happy that I'm making other people happy when they listen to my music and its also shocking how thousands of people look up to me as a person and not just a singer. I try my best to do a lot for my fans as they got me where I am today. FD: That must be such a great feeling, where are you touring first? JB: It really is, I will be touring at Wembley first and then I will be going to Manchester, I hope to see all of you at Sound there, as I am so excited (laughs). FD: We will be there! What song will you be opening with first at Wembley? JB: It is a surprise but I will tell you, as I am nice like that. I will be opening with you got the love, I decided to write the song you got the love because at the time I was having a really happy relationship with my boyfriend which made me think of the song.
  • 91. FD: Wow that’s very nice to hear that your boyfriend inspired you to write the song, are you still with him at the moment? JB: Indeed I am, we have been together for a few years now and were still happy to this day, he is actually inspiring me to make other songs that relate to us, and I’m sure I will produce a new album with his involvement. FD: As your boyfriend isn’t in the limelight like you do you prefer this? And does he mind you always being on TV and in the public eye? JB: Sometimes he gets a bit jealous and would like to be in the public eye as well like me but he’s very supportive when it comes to creating music and he helps me whenever the public and the music gets stressful and hard sometimes. FD: That is so lovely that he is so supportive of you, looks like you have found yourself a keeper there. Thank you so much for taking the time to answer these questions, it sounds like you’re in a great place right now and we really enjoy listening to your music. FD: It’s really nice that he helps you get through tough times, would you ever let him do a duet with you? JB: (laughs) Don’t be so silly, he cannot sing but I would give him credit if he tries and I would support him even though I know it’s bad myself. FD: We’re really happy that you’re having a great relationship, do you have time to go on holiday this year, and if so where are you planning to go? JB: Actually we have booked to go to the Caribbean for 2 weeks, it will be a nice break from making music and it will be nice to enjoy the weather and being on a nice beach and I cant forget the great unlimited buffet food. FD: I bet everyone is very jealous of you; I can’t wait for a sunny holiday. Thank you so much for taking the time to answer these questions, it sounds like you’re in a great place right now and we really enjoy listening to your music. Check Jessica out on Sound’s social media pages.
  • 92. Conclusion In my research outcome I have focused on the music generation for the music magazine. This was first started from two different proposals that are used for a different indie magazine. I then created plans for both which includes a mind map, two mood boards, hand draw sketch drawings and graphic layouts. By making these I have decided on my final magazine idea. Once I have decided I then researched my magazine of inspiration “Q magazine”. In this magazine I would base ideas from Q to then create a magazine of my own, I also looked at how Q produces their articles and interviews where I planned to repeat the idea onto my magazine such as the language of Q and the image style. Furthermore I looked at this further generation In which I could appeal the best to the readers of my magazine. Finally I produced some draft sketch ups of the front cover and double page spread. Certain features of the front over and double page spread were repeated from Q magazine. By creating these drafts it made it easier to make my final product that is going to be created.

  • 96. Magazine Flat Plan - SOUND I have taken out a magazine Flat plan in order to plan what is going to be featured on each page of the magazine.
  • 98. This is my second proposal for “Volume” magazine, it includes format, working title, genre, content, style and approach of the magazine, the audience for example if it is aimed at teenagers or adults, the length of the magazine for example how many pages it will have and the frequency such as the price of the magazine.
  • 101. House Style of the magazine When creating house style for Q I thought it was important to include the details of the house styles and colours in which I will use on my created magazine. In each of my proposals there was an outline on what is going to be included in the magazine and the features such as colour schemes and logos. Colour scheme For Sound magazine, the house style is the colour scheme. They have chosen the colours to be bright dark red, black and blue. The red will connote to the readers that I am taking ideas from my magazine of inspiration and also the how professional they have laid out the magazine. the colour scheme will be continued on every page of the magazine. Masthead When deciding on the masthead for my magazine sound, I thought I would have it similar to the colour scheme and similar to my magazine of inspiration which is Q magazine and I will also use similar colours to Q such as the colour red. I will use other colours like black and blue to create my masthead. I will use effects such as make the masthead stand out and look professional in my magazine.
  • 103. Test Photography In my test photography I have taken 6 images of the person that is featured on my created front covers and double page spreads. I will use these images in my magazine to demonstrate that I have used different images to attract the audience.
  • 105. I carried out a Photoshoot plan in order to identify who I am going to use for the pictures I will be taking, what they will be wearing in the Photoshoot and what equipment I will need in order to do this.
  • 106. The target audience and relationship of Q magazine would be according to the socio- economic need chart has a high percentage of readers. This means that the magazine is very popular and draws in the attention of the readers to read Q magazine. According to Maslow, Sound and VOLUME magazine is fitted into the category of “survivors” because it will know that the readers will know when the magazine will be published and what information it will According to Katz, Sound and VOLUME magazine is fitted into the category of ‘inform and educate’ meaning that everything they will read will give them different information about the magazine.
  • 109. Survey Monkey Question 1-Gender As you can see they are more female viewers than male. I will use this information to mainly base my magazine on female readers.
  • 110. Question 2 -Age In this question it is shown that the age that people are at the ages of 13-18 years old. I am going to consider this in my magazine because I am going to mainly aim it at young people, this will show that by creating my magazine about young people that it will be popular and eye catching to the audience.
  • 111. Question 3 In this question it is shown that my viewers that have taken my music magazine questionnaire have chosen “never” to buy a music magazine. This shows that that particular answer is the most frequently picked in my questionnaire.
  • 112. Question 4 In this question it shows the articles/ interviewers my viewers have chosen to be in my magazine. I will use this information in my created magazine to show that I have listened to my viewers responses and will use this information to then create a popular magazine which will interest the teenagers and young adults.
  • 113. Question 5 In this question it shows how many people said yes or no to subscribing to a music magazine, it is clearly shown that most of the viewers that have taken my questionnaire have chosen “no” to wanting to subscribe or are considering in subscribing to a music magazine. I will use this information in my magazine by not pressuring my viewers to subscribe to the magazine.
  • 114. Question 6 In this question it shows how frequently people would like the magazine to be published. As you can see most of the people have chosen monthly to be the published magazines in my magazine that I am creating. I will use this information in my magazine to make it a monthly magazine instead of weekly.
  • 115. Question 7 In this question it shows the genre of music that people prefer listening to, in the chart it shows that pop is the most popular genre that was chosen in my questionnaire. I will then use this information to create a music magazine that is based on pop music and pop artists.
  • 116. Question 8 In this question it shows how much people will be willing to pay for a magazine. As you can see the most people would pay is £1- 2 on a magazine. I will use this information to base my magazine price on £1-2 because then it will make my magazine more popular and it would interest the public.
  • 117. Question 9 In this question it shows if people would consider a prize in the magazine. As you can see a majority of people have chosen “concert tickets” as the most popular prize in my questionnaire. I will use this information by considering in adding a prize in my magazine that I am going to be creating.
  • 118. Question 10 In this question it shows if people would buy a music magazine just because it has a free gift in it. As you can see most people are considering in buying a music magazine just because of a free gift inside. I will use this information in my magazine by placing a free gift in It to attract the audience to my magazine.
  • 119. Spending Power For “Sound” magazine, the target audience will be mainly aimed at young people and teenagers and the power It will have compared to Q magazine. I am predicting the information and published information on Q magazine. I have chosen Q magazine to be my magazine of inspiration which produces similar content which I will use on my new magazine. From looking at the table from Bauer media pack, I have analysed that the Q magazine readers are aged 16-24 years of age. This will be similar to my magazine “sound” because there are some features and content that will be the same as Q and will appropriate for the same age ground as Q. this is the reference to Hartley's seven subjectives’because it shows that I have used age, gender and others that would be considered spreading the power. The spreading the power of readers will also be similar to Q magazine.
  • 120. Step by Step Guide Front cover Step 1- while making a front cover you will need to open up Photoshop and create an A4 page spread. Go to File – New – International paper which makes it an A4 sized paper Step 2- I then started to create my barcode where there was a template in public drive where you go to CTEC media where you will find a barcode template where you go to file and place, then you will have your barcode. Step 3- for the background of my front cover I decided to keep it white so it links to my magazine of inspiration, if you would like to change the colour at any point then go to the paint bucket tool, click on a colour that you would want then click on the background. Step 4- to create the masthead you would have to click on the pen tool then you would have to make a shape of a square by clicking each of the points, then you have your masthead, again to change the colour go to the paint bucket tool. Step 5-to insert a font you would need to go to either go online and make a font on a website such as dafont.com then you download the font and it will appear on all the other fonts on Photoshop then you copy and paste it through and you drag it to where your masthead is, to resize it you press command T and hold down shift so the font doesn't’t look pixelated, you will have to do the same for the strapline.
  • 121. Step by Step Guide Step 6- to create your puff promotion you will need to go to the shape tool on Photoshop where you would have to resize it so it is big as you want it to be, to add colour you will again have to use the paint bucket tool where you can choose your colour, and also to add colour on the outside of the circle you would to use a stroke affect where it gives you options if you want the colour to be faded or bold. Step 7- to add cover lines into your front cover you will need to add text where you will write promotions to promote your magazine, you will then need to resize and drag them both so they are on both sides of the magazine cover. Step 8- to add the title of your magazine you will need to again add text by clicking on the text box tool then you will need to type in whatever your magazine title is going to be then you will need to again resize it and make it stand out by using colour to make it stand out.
  • 122. Step by step guide continued Step 1- the first step to creating a double page spread on a magazine would be to choose a theme that would fit best for your magazine for example your colour scheme, I choose a white colour faded into a brown/ dark pink colour for the canvas. Step 2- the next thing you will need to do was to add a page number to your double page spread so that readers can see what page it is on Step 3- for this step you will need to take pictures of your chosen subject, after taking the images you will need to save them in your file place. After that you will need to go to file then place in Photoshop and your chosen image will appear, you will need to quick select you image and move it when you would like it to go on your double page spread.
  • 123. Step by Step Guide continued further Step 4- for this step I had to paste my interview with the artist into my double page spread, in order to do this you will have to copy and paste the information over. After this I had to add in a drop capital to show it is professionally laid out, I also had to add the interview between the quote because I was linking to my magazine of inspiration. Step 5- I then added the pull quote in between my interview by using the pen tool then I inserted the quote by using a different font to make it stand out. Step 6- the name of the artist was Jess Blundell who featured on my double page spread and front cover, in the interview I used a different font to show that it’s professional for the readers, the colour of the font was black, the drop capital was red because I wanted to relate it to my magazine of inspiration which is Q. Step 7- lastly I had to add my logo/masthead to my double page spread, my logo/masthead is called sound so I had to add in the logo, this will create organisation for the readers as I've added a logo to my front cover, this will also create constantly.
  • 124. Interview Draft Article FD: Jess Blundell 16, talks new and upcoming album and shares advice to people about going into a music career. JB: It’s been great thanks for asking, it was very busy but exciting at the same time. FD: how do you feel that your new song went at the top of the charts in just a week? JB: I was really amazed and thankful for my fans support, I found that my song really inspired my fans and just people in general, sometimes when I have a bad day I think about how supportive my fans are and then I start to think about the song and how it made people feel. FD: So how is your song writing process work? JB: Well I start off thinking about the song beat then I get some ideas from the people that help with creating my songs. I do admit they give me inspiration to write songs, they give me a few ideas that I could use, I think of lyrics for them and then we think of a name for the song. FD: So your new album is being realised soon, what can we expect from it? JB: You can expect a lot of emotion such as happy and sad. I was aiming at getting my fans to understand the different types of music I create and what the message is in the song. FD: Have you learnt any important or tough lessons from your early experiences of the music industry? JB: Well it is very hard to get into the music industry, when you get in to it there’s no going back to a normal person, your automatically known to the public and sometimes it is very tuff to keep a brave face. FD: I heard that you sold out your tour, how does that feeling of thousands of people want to see you and only you feel like? JB: It’s shocking to be honest; it makes me feel happy that I'm making other people happy when they listen to my music and its also shocking how thousands of people look up to me as a person and not just a singer. I try my best to do a lot for my fans as they got me where I am today. FD: Thank you Jessica for your time it’s been great talking with you. Do you have any words of inspiration for your fans that are looking to pursue a music career? JB: Thank you and my advice to them is to never stop believing in yourself and you will get there, if your talented at singing then I suggest you keep at it and never stop until you’ve been noticed by someone. During my work for my magazine, I had to create a interview draft article for both magazines “Sound” and “Volume” magazine. I had to write 10 questions, the interviewer would ask 5 questions and the artists would answer 5 questions.
  • 125. This is my final front cover idea that I have made. My magazine of inspiration is Q, I have based it on Q by using colours such as red, black and blue to show that I have followed my magazine of inspiration. While creating my first front cover, I have repeated certain things from my magazine of inspiration which is Q, I have used their colour scheme on both my front cover and double page spread. I secondly used the same font to create my masthead and puff promotion. I have done this to connote that I have used Q as my magazine of inspiration.
  • 126. This is my second idea for a front cover of my magazine, I have used different colours to my first magazine to show that I have created two different magazines. I have also created a different masthead to show that this is a completely different magazine front cover to my first one. During creating my magazine, I had to refer back to my magazine of inspiration. I have used the same masthead as Q to connote I have followed it for ideas, I have also used the same puff promotion and the layout of Q.
  • 127. This is my final double page spread of my magazine, as you can see I have followed with the colour scheme of my magazine of inspiration, I have colours similar to Q such as red and black. I have also followed my magazine of inspiration which is Florence and the machine. I have chosen these colours because it makes it easier to see and it also makes the image stand out. I have repeated a double page spread where the artist Florence is on the cover, I have then repeated that by using the same layout to again connote that I am using ideas from Q magazine.
  • 128. This is my second idea of a double page spread for my magazine, as you can see I have used different colours to my first idea so it shows that they are two separate double page spreads. I have used more bright colours than the last one such as yellow, black and white, I have chosen these colours because they seem to highlight each other and so you can concentrate more on the image that is shown. When creating this double page spread, I have repeated certain things from Q magazine such as the layout where Q magazine used the artist Florence to star in one of their double page spread, I have linked this by using her as an inspiration for my own magazine by repeated the layout.

  • 132. In order to do this I have looked at my magazine of inspiration which is Q magazine and followed a similar layout so readers will know it is my Article feature- on this hand drawn draft, I was aiming to include the content and what readers will see when they open the magazine. Then I will make the title of the pages smaller in order for the readers more about the content of the magazine and the artist it is talking about.
  • 136. Advertising, Promoting my magazine on Facebook I promoted my magazine by creating a Facebook page where viewers could see the latest updates of Sound magazine, “digital natives” (Prensky - 2001) would like this and it highlights how Sound are trying to target the younger audience.
  • 137. Chosen magazine This is my chosen magazine masthead, as you can see I have made it similar to my magazine of inspiration by using the colour red and white. The reason why I have done this is because I do not want to re-invent the wheel and I want my magazine to be as popular as Q and sell.

  • 142. Maslow, Katz and Hartley My audience for Sound is linked into three categories Maslow, Katz and Hartley. Studying my audience, I have calculated that for Maslow my audience is in the category of Explorers and Survivors because when the magazine will be published it was have different artists and content on each issue that will be released. For the survivors category, the readers will know information about the artists and will keep updated with the published information every week which they will like the security and routine of knowing this. For Katz Sound would fit into the category of Diversion because readers can escape reality by reading a pop magazine and reading about the different artists every week. And lastly for Hartley, Sound is aimed at young people and teenagers from the ages of 15-20, it is aimed at both males and females.
  • 143. This is my first proposal for “Sound” magazine which shows the format, working title, content, style or approach, audience, the length of the magazine and the frequency of how much it will cost.

I then created a flat plan for both magazines to show what will be on each page of the magazines so viewers will know what to expect on each page. I the when on to talk about the intended target audience for Q magazine and for example socio-economic needs and how it relates to my magazines which have been created after that I had to talk about psychographics and again how it relates to Q and my magazine, including this I then had to talking about Maslow, Hartley and Katz and I had to compare my magazine to Q and what was similar and different to the target audience. Then I had to do a survey monkey questionnaire for my magazine to see what people would like and dislike about it. I then had to talk about the frequency of my magazine and how it would effect Q magazine in future publishments. The second to last thing I had to do was to analysis my front covers and double page spreads where I talked about what colours I have used and why and how it was similar to Q magazine. Lastly I created a step by step guide to review how I created my magazine front covers and double page spreads in Photoshop.

Changing the main image-while making corrections to my final magazine front cover, I had to completely change the main image, I did this by taking a completely different picture of a new pose that was inspired of my magazine of inspiration. When I successfully happy with the picture I had taken, I uploaded it onto my front cover and enlarged the image where I wanted it to go. Changing the colours-in order to make my magazine similar to Q magazine which is my inspirational magazine, I had to change the colours in order for it to look like Q magazine. Changing the image-the first correction I had to make was to completely change the image that was originally on the double page spread, I done this by taking a completely new image and then inserted it into the double page spread where I wanted it to go. changing the main title-in order to link my created double page spread to my magazine of inspiration, I had to change the main title which is the name of the artist. I done this by inserting the text where I would type the name of the artist, I then changed the font of the text I want to use, enlarged the text and placed it where I wanted it to go.

The first thing about the editors code is to make sure that the magazine is of high standards when it comes to the making of the magazine and making sure that every page is professorially laid out. This will include the content and how the company will be able to handle readers information that is provided so that the magazine will be able to handle the situation in a reasonable manner. Overall the information in the editors code must be applied into the magazine that is created from the magazine development. This will include both printed and online punishments so readers won't miss an issue of the magazine. This would mean that the editors can check through the information that is created by the publishers so that they can make sure that the content is published professionally within the editors codes instructions. http://www.pcc.org.uk/assets/111/Teachers__Resource_Pack.pdf http://www.pcc.org.uk/assets/80/PCC_Complaints_Statistics_for_2011.pdf
  • 174. Press Complaints Commission Accuracy The editors code is responsible to ensure that all content that is going to be published within the magazine is suitable and is going to be featured on the front cover and double page spread that I have created. These will be featured in the magazine in order to attract readers to read it. The editors code have to make sure that everything that is published is “accurate” meaning that there is no spelling mistakes or inaccurate information such as information about certain artists that are going to be featured in it. By following the editors code, this will grant them high quality of information that will be published in the magazine and will also maintain the layout. This will repeat certain things such as the logo and strapline. Overall accuracy will be used throughout the magazine and will follow the editors code which will ensure that the content that will be released is accurate Privacy For the magazine front cover and double page spread, I will have to gain permission from the person that will be featured in the magazine so that it can be published. To make sure that the editors of the magazine will gain permission, they will have to directly contact the person that they would like to feature in it, they could possibly do this by email in order for them to gain permission to take their photograph.
  • 175. Copyright and Royalties Copyright- the legal right to be the only one produce, publish and sell a book, a video or anything on social media that you have created or brought out to the public to see, an example of this would be things such as brochures, books etc. Royalties- copyright such as songs used in different promotions to stand out their particular promotion that they are making. This relates to my magazine because I would have to make sure that I ask for permission if I wanted to use a certain picture of a artist
  • 176. Editors code of practice https://www.ipso.co.uk/editors-code-of-practice/ There are codes of practice that editors have to follow to obey legal and ethical issues such as: Clause 1-accuracy I must make sure my work is accurate so I'm not publishing incorrect information about anyone, specially the artist, I am going to make sure I do this especially on the first issue so readers will be able to gain a good first impression. Clause 12-Discrimiation I must make sure my work doesn’t discriminate against anyone for example race, colour, religion and gender identity.
  • 177. Editors code of practice https://www.ipso.co.uk/editors-code-of-practice/ I am going to use these codes in order to improve the quality of the magazine, for example in clause 1 I am going to improve the accuracy of the magazine content where I will publish the information I have received and endeavour to not misrepresent the person being interviewed for example. I will also use clause 12 where I will make sure that I haven't use any type of discrimination that may seem offensive to the public eye.
  • 178. Production Legal and Ethical Issues Discrimination-if an article is published and has signs of discrimination, this would mean they are talking about an individuals race, colour, religion and gender. Examples of discrimination would be racism, harassment and many others. Children- people have to be careful about what they say about children in the media industry and content that is released about them because they are considered innocent and vulnerable. It is important to use permission from their parents/parent to use their information on the internet if they are under the age of 18, then the parents or parent will then have to agree to the terms and make sure that they are using necessary content that is appropriate for the magazine. Accuracy-content that is published in a magazine must not be inaccurate, this means that the information they produce such as written information or pictures they use must not be misleading. This means that it must be accurate and not made up or extended. Furthermore, I need to be accurate in the magazine I am creating because then I will be giving readers the correct information that they are reading about within the magazine. https://www.tes.com/lessons/x9hMlieIZ5BXqQ/unit-6-week-5-discrimination http://www.eastspartachurch.com/childrens-mnistry/
  • 179. Legal and Ethical Issues Contract Challenges: when looking through the content of the magazine, it goes through a contract to the organisation so they will only use copyright on the things that they have created. When the person/people sign the contract, this will then mean they have to stick to it and it must not be changed in any way possible. This would also mean that they have control of some of the rights they have made. Copyright:Intellectual Property-before making the magazine, I had to research legal areas that I can then be able to use a type of content in my magazine that I will be producing. Using this, they will have to ask for permission to use particular content so it can be featured in the magazine and so it will be safe from paying fines. Privacy-when publishing content into my magazine, I will have to make sure that I limit people's privacy that will be featured in the magazine. I will have to make sure that I ask for permission for any personal details that will be featured before I publish the magazine and with the permission of the person I would like to feature in the magazine. I have to also made sure not to include anything negative information about that person so the magazine won't have a negative impact on the readers and public. https://www.copyrightservice.co.uk/ When making the magazine, I have to make sure that I include legal and ethical issues when dealing with the content that is going to be featured in the magazine. For example I could talk about private information from an artist and I will have to deal with what I say and the limits. I will then create protection copyright so that I only use it for my organisation and other companies will not be able to access it.
  • 180. Risk Assessment Image risk assessment before taking images for my magazine I had to gain full permission for the person to be photographed and the image being published which will be both online and printed. I thought the best way to do this is to send an email across to the artist or artists describing what they have to wear and act like during these pictures that will be taken. I have also sent the artist a permission form which they will have to sign and what date they would have to send it back to me. By having permission I will be able to have a fully signed document which means that I will be able to take pictures and use them in my magazine.
  • 181. Software Risk Assessment Creating colour swatches When deciding on the colours to use on the front cover, I created colour swatches so I could keep track of what colour is linked to which part on the front cover. In the screenshot below, it shows that I have created and named colour swatches , I used the colour red to link to my magazine of inspiration which is Q magazine , I used this colour for the masthead and some of the font on the front cover. Colour swatches
  • 182. Conclusion to LO5 In conclusion I have looked into the feedback I was given on my witness statement and have corrected all things that I needed to improve on, I have been given feedback such as what I needed to improve on my magazine and the production of the magazine. I have been giving feedback forms such as witnessstatment, recorded interview ect. With the online surrey monkey surrey, I thought of going in detail for the questions that I have created, I analysed them individually to see what question had the most feedback on it so I could improve on my pitch. I decided to work on the strengths and weakness of my pitch and the feedback I was given of the presentation, I thought it was important to go in detail about each thing I had to correct of the magazine.
