- 2. Environment of Presentation I have taken several images of the environment in which I conducted my pitch. I presented my pitch in a classroom, my Prezi was on the smartboard and I used the keyboard to change slides, I also had a computer in front of me, this allowed me to see what slide was up without looking behind me. I recorded the video using a Nikon DSLR and a tripod, this meant the video was of a good quality and was not shaky, as the tripod is much more stable than a human hand.

Evidence of Presentation My pitch was recorded, this was important as it means that I can watch it back and take into account the strengths and Weaknesses I had, which I can then improve on, As well as using the feedback I received from the audience in the survey and the feedback from my teachers which I received on the witness statement. All the feedback is useful as it will give me views from different people who will all look at my pitch in a slightly different way, meaning I can get as much feedback as possible which I can then improve from to make future pitches much better.

Materials used • I used PowerPoint to create the content for my presentation, then I uploaded it to Prezi as PowerPoint is quite a boring way to present, whereas Prezi is much more visually entertaining, therefore the audience would enjoy the presentation more. • I also used the internet, this was so I could research things such as the printing costs, which would be difficult to find out otherwise.

Feedback of Pitch This is my witness statement, highlighted in green is the elements I did well, and in yellow is what I need to improve, there is also a list of what I did well and, what I need to do to improve it, this gives me exact steps on what I need to do in order to improve my work. The positives were that my magazine was created to a professional level, I communicated expected areas in some detail and all my pre-production materials were fit for purpose, as well as many aspects being creative. The things I needed to improve was minor issues with the front cover and DPS, also I need to add more detail to my production plan
- 7. Feedback of pitch – Survey Monkey • Survey monkey is a website which you can sign up to for free. It allows you to create surveys filled with different questions, such as multiple choice or with boxes allowing the person to write anything they want. • I used survey monkey to collect results about my magazines and pitch presentation.

Survey Monkey Results • My first question was “what do you think I can do to improve my pitch?” the majority of respondents said that I needed to learn my script off by heart, I agreed with this as because I did not know my script off by heart it meant I could not look at the audience, instead I had to look at my script, this made me look less confident. • My second question was “did my magazine look professional?” out of all the people asked 100% said yes, this is good as it means my magazine was to the standard that it needed to be. • I then asked what I could do to improve my magazine. Most responses were telling me that I needed to add more details, and more cover lines in order to fill some dead space that I had.
- 9. Survey Monkey results I had a higher number of people saying I did not cover everything on the mark scheme, however it was only a small margin more than people who said I did. This shows that although missed some things out it wasn’t very much, as a number of people didn’t notice. Everyone I asked said that the audience I targeted was the correct one, this is very good feedback as it means that I don’t need to change who my target audience is. Most people said I had enough detail in my proposals however some people said I didn’t, this means that I may need to add some more detail but not a major amount, because the majority were happy with the detail.

Pitch Improvements One improvement I made from the feedback I was received, was I moved the main image, this was because the top cover line was overlapping his face, so I moved the main image left, and upwards, this meant his face was not obstructed, which is important as he is the main attraction of the cover, so if his face was covered it could lead to significantly less sales. Another improvement that I made was adding an analysis to my mood board, as previously it only had pictures without explanation to what they were, or why I chose them and how they related to my magazine.
- 11. Pitch Improvements continued Another improvement I made, was adding a spending power slide which I did not previously have. This is an important slide as it explains who my audience is, the spending power they have and this helps justify why my magazine is priced how it is. A fourth improvement I made was to my production plan, I needed to add more detail as previously it was not in much depth, I added more explanation to each day, and possible issues or limitations.

Spending Power • The genre of my magazine is rap and hip-hop, because of this my audience will be mid to low on the socio-economic scale as higher classes do not listen to this genre so will not buy my magazine. • Low classes are less likely to buy magazines as it is not an essential, so they would save their money to buy things they need because they don’t have much. • This would mean that my target audience would be mainly mid class people, around C1 and C2 as these would like the genre and be able to afford magazines • Therefore my audience would have quite a high spending power allowing me to price my magazine at £2.99

Get team to write up the articles including main article, this is an important step as the content is the main part of the magazine, if the content is uninteresting and poorly written then nobody will want to buy the magazine again. Get contact with people who are wanted to be featured in the magazine, and get consent from them, ask if an interview is possible. And decide when the photo-shoot can be arranged for. Legal and Ethical issues Reporting of Crime This relates to my magazine as often In hip-hop and rap artists are involved in crime or are sent to prison, so I would need to be careful when discussing theses issues. Financial Journalism This relates to my magazine because in the music industry money is a big topic, especially in rap, where most artists boast what they make. So in my magazine its important I am careful when covering financial information. Harassment This relates to my magazine as I will be covering a lot of stories about artists and interviewing some too, so when I have journalists asking them questions I need to ensure they are not harassing the artist. Payment to criminals This relates to my magazine as I need to ensure that I don’t pay for any stories that exploit a crime or glamorise any crimes, this is important to keep in mind as many stories that could be seen as something to cover as an exclusive and attract new customers, could go against this code of practice.
- 18. Copyright © Copyright is the legal right to film, publish, perform and edit a certain material. This affects my magazine as it means I must be sure I don’t copy material from other companies or people without gaining permission from them. If I fail to get permission the use of the material is illegal, this could lead to a fine and would be asked to remove the material. It also means they must get their own material copyrighted otherwise it could be used by other companies or competitors.
- 19. Data Protection Act • The data protection act dictates how businesses are able to use data acquired from elsewhere. - 21. Risk Assessment • One risk I had to consider was permissions, I had to make sure that I got the permission from any people that I took photos of which I was going to publish in my magazine. I only used one person so I only had to create one form and send it to that person (Shown in picture on right). This was so if their was any legal issues regarding the photos it would not e down to the magazine, as the person has given authorisation. The artist was required to sign showing that it was them who gave consent, as well as writing down the date, showing that they are giving consent for this photo-shoot specifically, and it is not an old consent form for pictures taken in the past which has been reused. • A second risk I needed to think about was area assessment. This meant that I had to have checks to ensure that the location of the photo-shoot was safe, and no harm would be done to either the artist or employees conducting the photo-shoot. My location was a school hallway, this was good as it meant there was not many possible risks that had to be looked at, and the location was deemed safe.

Risk Assessment • Another risk I had to consider was accidentally stretching the photo, it was important I did not do this as it would make the artist in the picture look different, and also it would look unprofessional as the picture would be distorted. The way I avoided this problem was by holding shift when resizing any image. By holding shift it ensures the dimensions of the image are kept the same so the image looks the same no matter what size. I also had to consider how I would resize them without pixelating them as much as possible. The way I found that was most effective was the transform tool, this allowed me to quickly resize images without affecting the quality • The final risk I had to think about was inconsistency in my magazines colour. I overcame this risk by using the eyedropper tool, this tool allows you to select a colour already on the canvas and use that for whatever you are creating. This allowed me to make sure all the red I used on my anti cover and all the blue I used on my major cover were the same. However you cannot use the eye dropper tool between windows, so for my DPS I could not copy the colours from my front cover. The way I got around this was copying the colours code and pasting it so it was exactly the same.

Calendar Events • One event I will have to advertise my magazine is in upcoming festivals this year such as Wireless, as this is a festival which features many of the artists which will feature in my magazine, therefore a lot of the same target market will be there, so it’s a good opportunity to gain customers.

Conclusion In this learning objective I discussed the feedback I received regarding my pitch, then I analysed the feedback that I received from my survey, I presented the feedbacks using graphs so it could be clearly seen and evaluated. I then made the improvements that were suggested, after I had made the improvements I looked at my production plan to show the process of creating an issue, and when it would be published. The next thing I looked at was the ethical and legal issues and how they linked to my magazine so I could make sure I avoided them. Afterwards I did a risk assessment and explained how I overcame all the possible issues.
