Somewhere to rent … Bills to pay… Anything else…
Congratulations! You have a new job... ...You have bought a house... ...but can you afford it all? ...You have the car to match... Budget! ...You like your little bit of luxury...
Your new gross annual salary is £25 000, however... A third of your salary goes to the Taxman / National Insurance You pay £80.00 into a pension fund each month Step 1: Make a note of the following points... Income What does this mean? Add these details into your budget spreadsheet under ‘Wages’ Use formulas to calculate how much you earn in a month...
Think about the lifestyle of a young person with a new job Underneath your wages section create a list of things you may spend your money on... Don’t forget to think about saving money too! Use the Internet to research realistic costs Add them into your spreadsheet (If it is a yearly figure then create a formula which will give you a monthly cost) Step 2: Now think about monthly costs... Spending / Saving Here’s a few but what else might you add?
Now create a formula which calculates the amount you have left over... Is there any money left?! Is there anywhere you can cut costs to make sure you don’t overspend? Step 3: What's left? Amount remaining... Let’s hope there is still some money left over, you might need it!
You need to change your budget to show... Your boiler is making funny noises, you need to pay a Heating Engineer £280 to diagnose and fix the problem It’s your Dad’s 40 th birthday and you have promised him a ticket to see Manchester United play (you are going with him)... You have forgotten to add this onto your monthly costs Your boss is really pleased with you and gives you a bonus of £200 You crashed your car a few months ago and your insurance company have decided that your monthly payments need to go up by 20% Step 4: Oh no! Disaster strikes! Extras! Is there any money left? How might you solve your money worries?
Is this the best way to display this information?
