slides!
Cleona has $178.69
Cleona wants to buy a shirt. Here are two shirts that
she may want to purchase. Read each deal. Answer
the questions about each shirt. Make a decision about
which shirt Cleona should buy.
REGULAR PRICE $40 each.
Today’s Incentive – Buy two shirts and
save 25% on both.
How much will the two shirts at
Collister be after the discount?
Collister
Regular price is $45 each.
Today’s Incentive – Buy one shirt get one
shirt 35% off.
How much will the discounted shirt at
American Bird be?
How much will the total at American Bird be
for purchasing two shirts?
American
Bird
Who has the best deal on shirts today?
OR
Collister
American
Bird
The best price isn’t the only consideration.
But Cleona likes both of these shirts equally. Price is
the ONLY consideration.
Make the decision for Cleona. Which t-shirts will she
purchase?
How much will she pay in Sales Tax? (Use 7%)
What is the total price for these shirts including tax?
Cleona will choose to purchase the Collister
shirts.
$40 x .25 = $10 discount
Each shirt will cost $40 - $10 = $30
She is purchasing two shirts. 2 * $30 = $60
Sales tax on purchase: $60 x .07 = $4.20
Add purchase price and sales tax for total price.
$60 + $4.20 = $64.20
Cleona pays for her purchase at Collister using
3 twenty dollar bills and 1 ten dollar bill.
How much change will Cleona receive back?
3 * $20 + $10 = $70
Cleona gives the cashier $70. Her
purchases total $64.20.
$70 - $64.20 = $5.80
The cashier learned to count back change
like we did!
The cashier started at $64.20
+ .05 (nickel) (64.25)
+ .25 (quarter) (64.50)
+ .25 (quarter) (64.75)
+ .25 (quarter) (65.00)
+ 5.00 ($5 bill) (70.00)
Cleona received one $5 bill, 3 quarters and a nickel
Cleona has some money left and
wants to purchase some socks.
Pack #2 is $12.00
for 8 pairs of socks.
Pack #1 is $10 for
6 pairs of socks.
1)What is the price per pair of socks in each pack?
2)Which is the better deal?
There are two packs of socks to choose from.
1)What is the price per pair of socks in each pack?
$10 for 6 pairs = $1.67 per pair
$12 for 8 pairs = $1.50 per pair
2) Which is the better deal?
The 8 pairs for $12 is the best unit price.
This makes Cleona very happy! She wanted to buy more than
7 pairs of socks so she only has to do laundry once each week.
Let’s make the sock purchase!
Sales tax is still 7%.
Calculate the sales tax for the purchase of the 8 pack
and then the final purchase price.
Click forward to check your answer.
$12 * .07 = $ 0.84
Total purchase price = $12 + 0.84 = $12.84
Cleona is paying for this purchase with 1
Twenty dollar bill. What is her change?
Cleona’s change will be:
$20.00
- 12.84
7.16
Cleona is tired from her shopping adventures and has
purchased everything that she needed from her list.
Before she heads home, she wants
to know how much money she has
left over from the cash that she
brought.
Cleona brought $178.69
She spent $64.20 on shirts and $12.84 on socks.
Her purchases totaled $77.04
$178.69
- 77.04
$101.65
Now she can go home!
