● They collaborated together in 2016 to create a collection entitles Lawig.
● The collection hoped for people to reflect and reevaluate what they know about their
region historically and sociologically.
Visayas
Ang Mga Pangayao Butungay
● He has been a prominent name in the art
scene in the Philippines and in Southeast Asia.
● He often uses his work to create awareness
and other marginalized people of the society.
● Many of his works are described as full of
conflict and demanding of viewer’s attention.
Nunelucio Alvarado
Manuel Pañares
• He is known for his historical themed paintings.
• He believes in the power of art as a medium of learning
• The accuracy of his works are very important to him, spending days
and even months researching and studying every detail that he
would put.
• Also known as “Noy Tinong”
• He was an important personality in the development of art.
• He is also known for his seascapes depicting the beautiful
shores and beaches.
• He served as a great inspiration and influence to
generations.
Martino Abellana
• He depicts the Lumads in his figurative
paintings.
• He often shows the native people in the
serenity of their homeland.
• His painting still calls attention to the
suffering that the ethnic tribe faces.
• His passion and love have never waned
as he continues to bring awareness to
the social injustices.
Mariano Amar Catague
Mindanao
• He hopes to change so his paintings depict the
colorful Muslim vintas.
• He often uses vibrant and bold colors and applies
indigenous Muslim motifs.
• His subjects are often culled from the rich cultural
heritage of the Filipino Muslims.
Rameer Tawasil
Saudi Ahmad
• His works are inspired by the rich culture
and tradition of Filipino Muslims.
• His subjects are often genre paintings of
community life.
• He believes that through his work he can
connect the values of the past to present.
Bert Monterona
• He admits that the works that he does heavily
influenced by his indigenous roots.
• His works are known all over the world for his use
of color, human figures, symbols and motifs.
• He says that an artist should still retain what he
calls “basic native creativity”
● His style depictions of the indigenous
motifs such as the okir, sarimanok, and
the naga can be easily be identified
with him.
● He also uses elements that are
inspired by his Muslim faith such as
calligraphy and arabesque patterns.

Art Criticism
and Scholarship
● Art criticism is the evaluation of an artwork based on its artistic
merits, its historical and cultural importance.
● Art scholarship is the orderly organization and study of art, whether it
is the actual artwork itself, the artists, or its art form.
Art Education
• Art education is the transfer of knowledge, skills, and art
appreciation from a teacher to a student.
• Education can be done in both formal and informal setting.
• Another venue for art education are workshops.
Media
• Media is the visual art component that pertains to the materials the artist uses for his
artworks.
• There are many different types of media an artists can use at his/her disposal and these
only increase with time due to new discoveries and technological developments.
• Each medium entails different manipulative processes for an artist to achieve their
desired outcome
Organizations
● Organizations are formed when people of common goals bond together for a cause or goal.
● It is also formed to protect each other’s rights and voice out concerns that affect them.

• It is the purchase or commission of an artwork.
