(1,000,000,000,000) unique URLs on the web at once” As of 17 October 2009, the  Earth's  population is estimated by the United States Census Bureau to be 6.791 billion That means that there are currently roughly 150 unique web pages per every person…on the planet

As of May of 2009, 20 hours of video content is uploaded to YouTube every minute.  Furthermore it is on track to pass 24 hours of content every minute.  During the course of this presentation 1200 hours of content will be uploaded to YouTube by the time I finish .

Creating Content
Wordle.net Wordle generates “word clouds” from text that you provide. The clouds give greater prominence to words that appear more frequently in the source text.

Log into  www.discoveryeducation.com Find a speech (Pearl Harbor) Copy the transcript text Go to  www.wordle.net Paste the text Play with the colors and you have a Wordle In your classrooms listen to the speech first and then drop into Wordle.  Discuss tone.  Evaluate the speech again – what words are significant?  Why?

Editor's Notes

  • #4: “ We've known it for a long time: the web is big. The first Google index in 1998 already had 26 million pages, and by 2000 the Google index reached the one billion mark... (third reveal) (population on planet tie-in) More web pages than people.
  • #6: These are numbers stemming entirely from Web browser data in the U.S. That means that you won't be pulling in any international numbers, where most of Facebook's users are now, or data from widgets or third-party applications, which are how many avid Twitter users access the service. That means that it's likely that Twitter's reach is bigger than the numbers indicate – Webpages can be within web pages within pages with widget – like a digital escher painting
