- 1. 7740650<br />Unwelcome Intervention<br />This is one of Banksy’s graffiti art, painted during 2005 on the Palestinian side of the barrier wall, which is built along the Gaza strip. It is named unwelcome intervention; this particular artwork by Banksy depicts two Caucasian children with buckets and a shovel, with a crack in the wall revealing a sandy beach with palm trees. This painting gives me a feeling that “the grass is greener on the other side”, and it makes the viewer think about the reality of situation and location. <br />The main subjects of this painting are the two Caucasian boys, the viewer can indentify that the both boys are Caucasian through their facial features. The boy on the left is holding a bucket while the other is kneeling down holding a sand shovel, with a yellow bucket positioned to the middle of both boys. They seem to be innocently playing at a beach, equipped with buckets and a sand shovel, but the artwork depicted shows that both children are on the concrete side of the wall, instead of the sandy beach. In this way, the artist shows the feeling of isolation.<br />When the painting was created, the barrier separating the Palestinians and the Israelis was in the progress of being half-done. Banksy was trying to voice his opinion on the situation between the Palestinians and the Israelis. Through the painting, the viewer can tell that Banksy was trying to convey the message of peace between the Palestinians and Israelis. By removing the wall, both religions can live at peace and security like the image of the sandy beach.<br />Stencil work and a pre-made poster created this artwork. This decreased the time taken to finish the artwork. The use of a different material that depicts the tropical beach contrasts with the color and vibe of the barrier wall. The colors used in the tropical beach are bright and vibrant, while the wall is grey and dull. The two boys on the bottom of the artwork are stenciled and spray-painted; the colors of the boys are dull and somber colors, adding to the cold vibe of the wall. The bucket in the middle of the two boys is painted bright yellow; this may symbolize the hope of the boys to cross the barrier.<br />The attempt by the artist to create a depressed idea was successful. The contrast between the tropical beach and reality of the barrier’s location gives the viewer a sinister vibe. As on the viewer’s side of the wall, it is very dull and there is an atmosphere of isolation and loss, while on the other side of the wall the feeling is carefree and light. There is a big contrast between the two sides of the wall, which makes a big impact on the viewer. <br />In this painting, Banksy successfully expresses the feeling of being closed off to happiness or being free. He did this by creating the vibe of the painting through the colors, the objects in the painting and the material that was used to create the artwork. Overall, this painting was effective of making an impression on the viewer about the situation of Palestine and Israel.<br />
