- #15: Teleflex has a long history of identifying unmet needs and delivering practical solutions. For example, consider our first product. In 1943, World War II was in full force and Spitfire planes were critical to the war effort (arguably they were the only aircraft that could really rival the German fighters) Those Spitfire planes needed a flexible cable to adjust the pilot’s radio, which was located behind the cockpit and out of the pilot’s reach. Two British military mechanics identified this need and developed a multi-strand helical cable and a gear that could convert push-pull motions into rotary motions. The flexible cable was used telescopically to adjust the radio -- thus, giving us our name: Teleflex.
