Computer Networks • Computer network means interconnecting a collection of autonomous computer. • Two computers are said to be interconnected, they are able to exchange the information. • Connections between computing devices can be physically connected using wire or cables and wireless using signals.

- 7. Resource Sharing The goal is to make all programs and data available in one network without regarding the physical location of the resource or the user. Example: A group of office workers share a common printer.
- 8. Saving money: Network printer is cheaper, faster and easier to maintain than larger collection of individual printer.
- 9. Client server model: • The data are stored on powerful computer called server. • It is maintained by system administrator. • The employees have simple machine called client on their desk, which they access remote data. • The client and server machines are connected by a network. This whole arrangement is called client server model. • The client request to a server and the server response to the client.
- 10. High Reliability: The next goal is to provide high reliability by having alternate source of supply. Example: All files could be replicated on the two or more machine, if one of them is unavailable( due to hardware failure) the other copies would be used.
- 11. Scalability: The ability to increase system performance and the work load grows just by adding more processes.
- 12. Communication medium: The computer network can provide a powerful communication medium among employees. They are, ➢email ➢video conferencing
- 13. Email: Employees generally use email for a daily communication. Video conferencing: Using this technology, employees at distance location can hold a meeting, seeing and hearing each other.

- 17. Person to Person Communication: • Person generally use email for a daily communication. • Using video conferencing technology, persons at distance location can see and hear each other.

- 19. Video on demand: It is possible to select any movie or television programs in any country and can be display on. Live television: It also may become interactive with audience participating in programs. Game playing: Real time simulation can play on online.
