  • #3: Attendees will be introduced to the concept of using customized musical lyrics to aid their students in the learning and retention of important class material.   Siblings Dr. Scott and Dr. Mitzi Simerlein teach college-level anatomy and physiology, a notoriously difficult course for health studies and pre-nursing students.  Over the years the Simerleins have devised and employed an engaging tool to help students deal with the copious amount of information they must internalize.  They call this tool the "Simersongs," which involve the writing of content-based lyrics that are then sung to familiar tunes.  An example is "The Twelve Cranial Nerves" which is set to the tune of "The Twelve Days of Christmas."  The Simerleins have recently begun to record and post these amusing songs for student study purposes on YouTube.  Several videos are available for viewing at: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCFVd6OQ45vuzUqv_z4gyzKw. The session would entail an explanation of the origins of the Simersongs, tips on how to incorporate this engaging tool in the classroom (either by equipping the teacher with strategies to write songs themselves or by creating a memorable assignment for students), and advice from Dr. Trekles on how to edit such videos using Camtasia and other similar programs.  And the session wouldn’t be complete without a performance or two by the “Simersong Siblings!” Join the “Simersong Siblings” and ICE President Dr. Anastasia Trekles for foray into the world of musical mnemonics.  Learn how to engage your students and help make difficult material stick by employing  customized lyrics set to the tunes of popular songs.
  • #27: The Camtasia interface is relatively simple and provides a place for tools and options, a place to preview your video as it is being edited, and a timeline to show where your tracks are, and where your audio is. You can even see the waveforms in your audio to see whether you have any particularly loud or soft spots, and these can be edited with volume tools, or deleted if you don’t need them. You can use the Red and Green slider tool at the top of the timeline to select portions of the video to cut, copy, move, or delete.
