Technology is the practical application of scientific discoveries such as electricity and inventions like 3D printers. - 3. Using technology • Technology is the practical application of scientific discoveries. This can mean discoveries such as electricity or inventions such as 3-D printer. Most technological advances have taken place since the everything was produced by hand or in small workshops. The industrial Revolution led to the mass production of items in huge factories which employed hundreds of people. In the last 50 years, the Digital Revolution has changed the way people work and communicate.
- 4. 3D printer • A 3D printer is a type of industrial robot which uses computer software and imaging techniques to reproduce three- dimensional objects. Layer after layer of materials are laid down until the final object is created. The advantage of 3D printers is that they are relatively small, cheap to use and can accurately reproduce almost any object. One of the most exciting uses is the ability to reproduce artificial limbs. This would be especially beneficial in countries with limited access to medical services.
- 5. Tranport • The last hundred years have seen huge advances in transport systems. Cars,(Tesla) high-speed trains and urban transport such as trams and metro systems, have all seen major improvements. However, perhaps the most amazing advance has been the installation and maintenance of the international Space Station. The Space Station orbits the Earth at a distance of about 400 kilometres. - 6. Medicine • Advances in medicine have saved countless lives. Drugs such as antibiotics and preventative medicine such as vaccinations have improved health and extended life expectancy. Nowadays, advances in organ and limb transplants are helping the sick and disabled become more mobile. Improved diagnoses, genetic testing and early intervention are helping to combat illnesses such as cancer and heart disease.

Communication • Communication have come a long way since Alexander Graham Bell invented the telephone. • Today, smartphones connect us to the internet using likely to communicate using free messenger services than talking on the phone. In the workplace and at home, video calls using computers or smartphones have become the norm; something which even 20 years ago belonged to science fiction. Mobile phones first became available in the 1980´s; today, almost everyone has a mobile phone.
- 8. Construction • There have been some huge building projects over the past 100 years. These include the Channel Tunnel that links Britain with France by high-speed rail; Palm Jumeriah, the world´s largest man-made island, off the coast of Dubai, and the Burj Khalifa, the world´s tallest building , also in Dubai. Improved materials and the use of computers in architecture have allowed engineers to complete huge megaprojects which have transformed cities, and in some cases whole countries.
