This document summarizes variations found in the morphology of maxillary permanent molars. It discusses accessory cusps that can form on maxillary molars, such as paramolar cusps. It also describes variations in the number of roots and root canals seen in maxillary molars. The first molar can have up to 7 root canals, while the second molar commonly has 3 roots but may rarely have 4 separated roots. The third molar shows increased variability with the number of roots ranging from 1 to 5 and root canals ranging from 1 to 6. Understanding these anatomic variations is important for successful root canal treatment.
