This article discusses how classroom management skills are important for librarians to have as instruction responsibilities increase, but these skills are not formally taught in library school. Different instruction settings like one-shot sessions and credit courses require different management techniques. The literature shows classroom management is crucial for student success but difficult to teach, and while library schools now offer user education courses, they may not provide adequate training in techniques like those taught in intensive programs. More emphasis needs to be placed on preparing librarians to teach effectively through classroom management strategies.
