Visual Inspection (4 point system)
Fabric Inspection is systematic observation of fabrics to decide
whether it meets: Client's specification in terms of
count/construction, color, design, measurement specifications,
hand/feel and other specific quality parameters laid down by the
clients.
The visual inspection will cover:
 Compare to sample on color and hand feel
 Fabric fault
 Fabric length
 Fabric width
 Mass per unit area (GSM)
 Running shade
 Moisture
 Packaging
Fabric Inspection Procedure
Fabric inspection is done in suitable and safe environment with enough ventilation
and proper lighting.
Fabric must be marked by dye lot number, roll number, length and width.
Cool White light is appropriate above viewing area. Back light can be used as and
when needed and the inspection frame must be between 45 - 60 degree angles.
Fabric speed on inspection machine must not be more than 15 yards
Fabric inspector should mark the location of all defects and
record the defects on the inspection report using the 4 (four) point
system as follows:
Defects length 0 to 3 ̋ Inches = 1 point.
Defects length 3 ̋ to 6 ̋ Inches = 2 point.
Defects length 6 ̋ to 9 ̋ Inches = 3 point.
Defects length 9 ̋ Inches to over= 4 point.
Hole in Fabric (any size) = 4 point.
The maximum penalty for any running yard (36 ̋ x fabric width) must be
not more than 4 points.
Defect lengths in both warp and weft received equal points and more than
2 joins are not allowed in a fabric roll.
The average point value per shipment should not exceed 20 points per 100
square yards. Individual rolls exceeding 28 points per 100 square yards
must be rejected. Defects per 100 SQ Yards calculated by the following
formula :
