Editor's Notes

  • #4: Hydrostatic resistance of the thermoplastic layer is a key feature. The thermoplastic welds allow for optimum hydrostatic protection in the critical transitions and details. The membrane is unaffected by and protects the BPA from a large array of contaminants. If the membrane is punctured, the active BPA layer seals the leak and prevents the water from migrating to cracks in the concrete.
  • #5: Weft inserted… Unique to the membrane industry. Not only is the fabric encapsulated, but the bond to the top and bottom membrane layers are exceptional.
  • #6: KEE – Keytone Ethylene Ester
  • #7: Unlike liquid plasticizers, Elvaloy is strongly bonded to the polymer chain. It does not have the affinity to break from the chain and migrate to other molecules external to the membrane. Clays, oils, animal fats, fuels and organic substances can render traditional PVC membranes as inflexible and brittle as schedule 40 pipe. Flexibility and all the other properties that are desirable in a waterproofing membrane are useless if they change over time. Elvaloy not only protects the membrane from environmental and jobsite conditions when first installed, but remains stable, and in place for the duration.
  • #8: Step one – make the overlap (4” consistent from end to end) Step two – peel the membrane from the Cortex on one side Step three – tuck the un-peeled sheet into the pocket of the one you peeled Step four – fabricate the weld Step five – check the weld
  • #16: This application will work best from the bottom up, but can be installed top down at the contractors discretion. Either a term bar or discs can be used to hang the membrane. The CoreFlex Overlap is constructed, the membrane is fastened and the KEE membrane overlap is fabricated with a thermoplastic weld; encapsulating the fastening elements, resulting in a monolithic Active/Passive envelope.
  • #18: The pattern can vary. But a good starting point is every 3.5” in both the vertical and horizontal planes. This pattern allows for making the CoreFlex overlap and welding the membrane at the horizontal seams. Depending on the horizontal run, the contractor may need to adjust a vertical spacing so the discs do not fall on the butt-end overlaps.
  • #19: The BPA layer, when hydrated prevents water from migrating between the membrane and the concrete. Membranes by themselves can not prevent this migration, even adhered membranes as the moisture and pressure will eventually defeat the bond. Self healing and leak isolation go beyond what any other system offers; unless you go to a redundant system applied in two or more steps…at a higher installed cost.
  • #23: The membrane is easy to weld, and the procedure set out in the Welding/Overlap Tech Data will insure not only a good weld, but a successful overlap. It is important to not only make the overlap, but protect the BPA in the welding process. It is simple with the right equipment & techniques.
