What is WCG
Researches (black) fall short of computing resources most of the time. Most of
the time our (purple) computers remain idle. This is because of being
disconnected.
Our computers can now contribute to researches. WCG servers provide
common ground.
And the effort is to create the world's largest non-profit public computing grid to
work on scientific research projects.

• Go to worldcommunitygrid.org
• Register yourself.
• Download the client application(8.66 MB for
Windows). Client application is available for
other platforms also.
• Install and provide internet connectivity to
client.
• Register your device and begin contributing.

Concerns
• Inputs – processor, network, memory, disk. All
are configurable.
• Electric impact equivalent to a low wattage
light bulb, generally.
• Management – No need to heed. The client
itself downloads tasks and uploads results.
• Security - The downloads are digitally signed.
Communication is done using SSL encryption.
• WCG apps run at lowest priority, so no other
process remains in wait state due to them.
Last Minutes…
• You can contribute in scientific research
projects that benefit humanity. 
• Enable life. Ensure love. :}
• Please don’t use WCG as an excuse for
forgetting to shutdown your computer.

Editor's Notes

  • #3: World Community Grid(WCG) follows the endeavour.
  • #4: There are three participants in this effort. You, WCG Servers and Researchers. Researches require computations(image processing, simulations, quantum mechanics). The amount of computations is very huge and the requirements are very high. Fulfillment of the requirements by scientists or institutions alone is infeasible. You as a PC owner know that your CPU is not used all the time and not to its full potential i.e. you have surplus computing power. This surplus power can be used for the research projects. This is the idea. WCG servers are the mediators between you and researchers. Researchers upload the apps and data required for doing computations. You download it, perform the computations and upload the results. Researchers use the results and this way the research is completed. Lets see what type of research is going on.
  • #5: Click the project name to view details. Aim of the project and associated organisation and country are mentioned.
  • #6: It is estimated that 1.2 billion people lack access to safe drinking water, and 2.6 billion have little or no sanitation. Millions of people die annually – estimates are 3,900 children a day - from the results of diseases transmitted through unsafe water, in particular diarrhea. These facts must make wasting water harder and using it a luxury.
  • #8: The listings and covers are hyperlinked. Follow the links for project details. The graphic is exhaustive, while the list is not.
  • #9: The listings and covers are hyperlinked. Follow the links for project details. The graphic is exhaustive, while the list is not.
  • #10: Faster results : In case of the Project GO Fight Against Malaria, the power of WCG can reduce to one (1) year what would take at least one hundred (100) years to complete using the resources normally available to the researchers at The Scripps Research Institute. The faster we find results more the experiments we will do e.g. The mission of The Clean Energy Project is to find new materials for the next generation of solar cells and later, energy storage devices. By harnessing the immense power of WCG, researchers can calculate the electronic properties of hundreds of thousands of organic materials – thousands of times more than could ever be tested in a lab – and determine which candidates are most promising for developing affordable solar energy technology. Results are calculated using public resources so they are public and can be used by anyone. Here is a research paper published recently. Titled - “The Plant Proteome Folding Project - Structure and Positive Selection in Plant Protein Families” can be accessed fully and freely by anyone. Human Proteome Folding project results were used. Follow (Alt + Right Click) the link. http://gbe.oxfordjournals.org/content/4/3/360.full.pdf+html Link (use) is provided to Submit a Proposal page of WCG. Here proposals can be submitted which will be screened for selection. And it goes without saying that we will get Life.
