Web Interfaces and Audience Analysis, by Rochelle Brancato
Design Based on User Experience

• Analyzing audiences is an important step in designing great
    and usable web interfaces.

• After all, each web page solves an audience problem,
accomplishes a task, or relates to a certain audience aesthetic.
Here are three questions to ask when analyzing website
                        audiences:

1. Who is the audience?

o This may seem like a fairly simple and obvious question.

o However, it is an important one.

o Because of the multiple stakeholders—designers, clients,
and website users—involved in the website creation
process, lines can get blurry at times.
Here are three questions to ask when
              analyzing website audiences: 2

2. What is the task being performed?

o Regardless of the website type, there is always at least
one task that is performed on each website page.

o It could be as simple as navigating to another page or as
complex as filling out another form.
Here are three questions to ask when
analyzing website audiences: 3

3. What is the priority of user tasks?

o This question follows naturally from the previous one.

o You can lay out or configure interface elements based on
the sequence or priority of user tasks.
