WEB TOOLS
WEB 1.0 & WEB 2.0
BY THOMAS BINAN DILU
DEFINITION
What is web tools?
Web tools is a web programming system that allows the user to add content to their websites with least
technical knowledge.
PURPOSE
It helps serve to:
• provide access to creating and modifying content across the websites of UCLA International Institute
and its centers and programs;
• fulfill administrative and logistical functions, including but not limited to staff information, equipment
reservations, grant tracking, and fellowship applications;
• hold a record and archive of web content including text, images, video, and audio;
• provide IT related resources and support (i.e. how-to guides, tutorials, useful links).
WEB 1.0
• The web 1.0 is the first web tool which is like a communication tunnel where communication stays in
between the sender and the recipient and becomes dead if the recipient didn’t provide responses to
the sender.
• It also allows only the content provider to say and do everything and the users are passive to it.
WEB 1.0 EXAMPLE
• corporate websites
• content download sites. NEC website which the content, audience are more passive.
• Sending mail, emails to a friend or employer, it will be response will come from one person
WEB 2.0
• In the web 2.0 there is interaction between the content users and the provider using the internet unlike
in web 1.0. The communication here is not static and passive but it is infinite – meaning that the
communication will not go dead, users will not still engage in two way communications.
WEB 2.0 EXAMPLE
• Facebook content users will not have their questions or discussions unanswered. I post a lie about
myself getting married to my girlfriend, those people who knew both of us will comment and it will
keep on coming (comments).
• My blog upload will be on the site and after three years my nephew who is four years and will be seven
and sees it and will type in his comment. Communication never dies out.
