G324 Evaluation
The BasicsYour evaluation is worth 20% of your coursework grade- 10% of your A2 gradeThe specification demands that set questions are answered
QuestionIn what ways does your media products use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?
This is asking you to think about your influences- what did you borrow from them? In what ways did you differ from them? This discussion should include some terminology/specific technical detailsQuestionHow effective is the combination of your main products and ancillary texts? This is asking you to think about the synergy between your trailer and the poster & magazine front cover- i.e. in what ways does it feel like it is promoting the same text? In what ways could this have been improved?
QuestionWhat have you learned from your audience feedback?Quite self-explanatory- examine your two feedback sessions, appreciating that your audience are a valid source of criticism and praise coming from a very different perspective of not knowing anything about your film
QuestionHow did you use new media technologies in the construction and research, planning and evaluation stages? This is asking you to consider the role of computers in the process of making your various pieces of practical work. Think about how many different technologies you would have needed to use had you done this project 10 years ago. You should use the word ‘convergence’ somewhere in discussing this question, but also think about the ways in which you were frustrated and/or guided by the technology available
Mark Scheme Level 4There is excellent understanding of the forms and conventions used in the productions. There is excellent understanding of the role and use of new media in various stages of the production. There is excellent understanding of the combination of main product and ancillary texts. There is excellent understanding of the significance of audience feedback. There is excellent skill in choice of form in which to present the evaluation. There is excellent ability to communicate. There is excellent use of digital technology or ICT in the evaluation.
ApproachesYou will not be able to get the highest marks unless you engage with technology in some way in your evaluationThere is no word count and strictly speaking you would not need to do any writing at all.
SuggestionsYou could do a filmed power-point presentation as a group that is included on your blog. You could do an audio commentary on each of your pieces of work with some pauses or use of stills during your film (this would need to be done after school when the room is quiet)Attached to this- you could (and are encouraged) to essentially make another film including different aspects from above- interviewing audiences or being interviewed and interspersing this with clips/stills from your practical work)Any of these can be supplemented with some written evaluation work on your blogBear in mind that you will be assessed individually, so you must make a notable contribution to any of the options listed above.
What will be done for you? Some form of feedback. Hopefully this will entail another Media Studies class watching your films and offering more constructive feedback
What are you going to do?Create a plan for your Evaluation strategy, with a sketched timetable of when you will do different parts of your evaluation.Watch your film and already make initial notes with a self evaluation?
