- 2. Part 1 Technology is full integrated in my district, Northwest ISD. They are currently the first place recipient of the 2011 District Excellence Award for Digital Learning. There were only three districts awarded this prize in the nation. The Technology Department strives to meet the needs and challenges associated with being one of the largest geographical and fastest growing public school districts in the state of Texas. The Technology Department is composed of the Data Network & Infrastructure department and the Computer Repair & Support department. Each department is staffed with talented and dedicated people striving to meet the ever-changing challenges inherent to the field of technology. A recent change has been made to our District Technology Standards. High school students will receive Netbooks for the 2009-2010 school year and middle school students will receive Netbooks for the 2010-2011 school year! The administration presented an update to the Long Range Technology Plan to the school board on May 26 for approval which included the student laptop project. We look forward to putting a laptop in the hands of every high school student this fall! "Today's students are technology-savvy, feel strongly about the positive value of technology, and rely upon technology as an essential and preferred component of every aspect of their lives."* The Northwest Independent School District will ensure that students, teachers and staff will have access to and an understanding of, technology-based tools, enabling them to gather, manage, analyze, evaluate, produce, and present information. Instructional staff members will model the integration of technology into all curricular areas. Departments will model the efficient use of technology tools to improve district operations. Technology will be seamlessly integrated with curriculum to ensure student acquisition of skills for researching, managing and presenting information.

Part 1 The Data Network & Infrastructure section of the Northwest ISD Technology Department provides support for the district's academic and administrative computing and telecommunications needs. The Data Network & Infrastructure section provides information technology resources that include: High-speed local area and wide area networks. Shared network software and storage space. Internet access and filtering. Distribution facilities. Telephone and voicemail services (including digital and Voice Over IP systems). Emergency broadcast messages. Electronic information services including databases and web applications. System design, programming, implementation, support and hardware maintenance for district network and telephone equipment. eDirectory, LDAP, Linux, VMWare and Netware Services. Enterprise file and print services, Proxy and FTP. Firewall, email, listserv, virus protection, network policy and acceptable use monitoring. Virtual Private Networks (VPN). Video Distribution and Conferencing. Network and wireless networking performance and security. Quality of service, speed issues, sharing and excessive resource usage monitoring.

Part 1 The NISD Computer Repair and Support department is responsible for the installation, maintenance, and support of the district's computing systems, networks, and data communications technologies, including hardware and software. This department uses a 3-Level support model to provide professional and efficient assistance to end-users. Support requests are submitted by end-users electronically via Eduphoria’s School Objects web-based Helpdesk program. A call-in help desk service is also available to NISD staff between the hours of 7:30 AM and 4:30 PM on regular school days.
- 7. Part 1 Campus Support CTMS Billy Savel Level 3 Campus Technology Assistants (CTA), provide Level 1 on-site support for two Elementary campuses. Technician Assistants (TA), provide Level 2 support , normally dividing their time between one Middle School and two Elementary Schools. Computer Technicians, provide Level 3 support , as well as network administration, supervision of CTAs and TAs, applications deployment, hardware repair, and on-site Administration Building tech support. - 8. Part 1 Campus Technology Assistants (CTA), provide Level 1 on-site support for two Elementary campuses. Typically, a CTA works closely with teaching staff to immediately resolve basic technical issues involving computers, data projectors, network access, printing, and distance learning events. Any unresolved issues are escalated to Level 2 support. Technician Assistants (TA), provide Level 2 support , normally dividing their time between one Middle School and two Elementary Schools. Two TAs are housed full-time at the High School. Any unresolved issues are escalated to Level 3 support. Computer Technicians, provide Level 3 support , as well as network administration, supervision of CTAs and TAs, applications deployment, hardware repair, and on-site Administration Building tech support. Computer Technicians rely upon Network Engineers to help with unresolved issues
