Subject: Business Leaders Conference
For the past several years, the Young Business Leadership
Conference has proven to be a
successful and innovative experience for aspiring professionals
in the business community. We
recognize the significant impact this conference has on this
organization, and it would be an
honor to contribute by hosting our very own presentation at
your conference. Our goal is to
demonstrate the importance of networking in the modern world
by utilizing as many resources as
possible, as well as understanding personal branding and
implementing effective
communication. By discussing this topic, young professionals
will develop key relationships and
skills that will encourage strategic thinking while jumpstarting
their career.
The presentation will discuss the following topics: !
• Discovering the right career path (Brad)
• Utilizing social media resources (Jasmine)
• Developing personal branding techniques (Yati)
• Implementing effective communication (Michael) !
After extensive research, we have found that networking in the
modern world is a crucial
element to the success of young business leaders and business
owners. Our supporting evidence
comes from highly reputable sources with insight from
renowned authors such as Keith Ferazzi
and established business professionals like Jeff Bezos and Tim
Cook. These resources support
our claim that networking is a powerful tool that is used to
accelerate and sustain success for
businesses. Research proves people do business with those they
like and trust. !
Presenting this topic at your conference would be a rewarding
and thrilling experience that
would benefit all ambitious young leaders at the conference. As
the organizer of this conference,
we value your continued support of business leaders, and we
hope to make a significant impact
to the business community by utilizing networking as a primary
tool for success. If you have any
questions, please feel free to contact us by email at
[email protected] Thank you for
your consideration, and we look forward to hearing from you.

Executive Summary (Michael Wise) !
A common networking phrase we hear quite often is: “It’s not
what you know, it’s who you
know.” Research shows that networking is a highly effective
tool used to ensure that you are
going above and beyond customers’ expectations by connecting
with them in every way
possible. Many businesses strive to become the leader in their
industry, but few actually learn
how to stay there. In response to this issue, Keith Ferazzi, the
author of Never Eat Alone,
discusses a variety of ways that businesses use networking to
keep their company a leading
competitor in the industry. As a student of the W.P. Carey
School of Business, I have developed
personal experiences from courses such as WPC 301 that utilize
this book in its course material
to implement effective networking across the globe. This New
York Times best seller provides
countless techniques that demonstrate how to keep its network
of relationships among businesses
a top priority. In my section of the panel I will begin by giving
an overview of this book as
follows:
• Contacts- How to efficiently organize and set up an effective
contact list
• Spreadsheets- How to effectively prioritize your network of
relationships
• Relationships- How to add value to the power of your network
!
Although some companies have already understood the
importance of networking in the modern
world, the following three companies have proven to be
especially dominant in this field: !
• Amazon: This Company uses AWS (Amazon Web Services) as
part of their global
partner program that is focused on helping partners build
successful AWS-based
businesses by providing great marketing and networking support
(“AWS Partner
Network,” 2015, para. 1).
• Apple: This Company has highly reputable partnerships with
IBM, Cisco, and many
other leaders in the industry. They implement their power to
network through their ability
to provide high-quality products with continually updated
services (Evans, 2015, para. 2).
• AT&T: This Company is the biggest enterprise wire line ISP
in the country, and uses
networking to connect with their customers on a variety of
interpersonal levels. Using
Net Promoter Score (NPS), AT&T develops relationship
satisfaction from customers and
uses surveys to improve their results (“Customer Experience
and Satisfaction,” 2015,
para. 2).
Research suggests that business networking is positively
associated with salary growth, personal
connections, perceived career success, and overall job
satisfaction (Freifield, 2013, para. 3). We
Future Business Leaders of America
are confident that our presentation will provide young business
professionals with a competitive
advantage to effectively compete in the industry. !

Executive Summary (Norhayati Sonneman)
Networking is an increasingly important skill in the Information
Age, and it can often help students to get jobs after college.
Students need to be notable and distinguish themselves from the
thousands of college graduates, thus having a personal brand
will give a competitive advantage to stand out from the crowd.
Students should start networking early in their sophomore year.
The concept is to “plant the seeds before you need to harvest
them” (Grant, 2011). College students should establish strong
online identities and develop networking connections with the
professionals in the industries in which they want to work. In
my section of the panel, I will give an overview on strategies
for starting a personal brand and utilizing the network for
establishing professional connections. The resources for
students to explore and create networks are as follows:
· Personal Brand Starting a professional blog and
creating a personal brand on the internet that
conveys interests, strengths, experiences and future goals.
· Personal Connection Engaging with alumni to get advice
and building connections. Signing up for
conventions and reaching out to professionals for networking
contacts.
· Virtual Connection Boosting your personal brand by
emphasizing credibility and professionalism in the
networking website. Utilizing social media such as LinkedIn
and Facebook to broaden professional
contacts. Participating in the internet buzz
such as Twitter in areas of interest, and contributing views and
ideas.
It is important for students to have a personal brand and using
resources in networking to get connections especially in the
professional field. Students should “consistently build
credibility and visibility online” (Pan, 2012) as employers
would use resources in the social media to check on their
prospective employees. We believe that the resources we have
put together will contribute significantly to providing good
tools for students to use in networking in today’s society.

The concept is to “plant the seeds before you need to harvest them” (Grant, 2011). College students should establish strong online identities and develop networking connections with the professionals in the industries in which they want to work. In my section of the panel, I will give an overview on strategies for starting a personal brand and utilizing the network for establishing professional connections. The resources for students to explore and create networks are as follows: · Personal Brand Starting a professional blog and creating a personal brand on the internet that conveys interests, strengths, experiences and future goals. · Personal Connection Engaging with alumni to get advice and building connections. Signing up for conventions and reaching out to professionals for networking contacts. · Virtual Connection Boosting your personal brand by emphasizing credibility and professionalism in the networking website. Utilizing social media such as LinkedIn and Facebook to broaden professional contacts. Participating in the internet buzz such as Twitter in areas of interest, and contributing views and ideas. It is important for students to have a personal brand and using resources in networking to get connections especially in the professional field. Students should “consistently build credibility and visibility online” (Pan, 2012) as employers would use resources in the social media to check on their prospective employees. We believe that the resources we have put together will contribute significantly to providing good tools for students to use in networking in today’s society.
