History of LinkedIn
2003
May
LinkedIn was officially founded in 2003. The site launched on May
5th (affectionately referred to by employees as "Cinco de
LinkedIn") when the five founders invited about 350 of their most
important contacts to join. At the end of the first month in
operation, LinkedIn had a total of 4,500 members in the network.
LinkedIn's first "real" office was on Shoreline Road in Mountain
View.
December
LinkedIn ends 2003 with 81,000 members and 14 employees. As a
pleasant surprise, approximately half of the members came from
outside the US.
Press coverage of
LinkedIn
Where Talent and Opportunity Meet, CFO, November 3, 2010
LinkedIn's surging member base provides ever-richer capabilities for
employers and job seekers alike, the social-media site's CFO says.
Checking out LinkedIn Companies, iMedia Connection, November 16, 2010
LinkedIn in has become one of the Big Three in social media (along with
Twitter and Facebook), but until now there has been little to no reason for
brands to give much thought to their presence there.
Many marketers are now making plans for 2011. Make sure LinkedIn
Companies is in them.
Analyst Quotes
about LinkedIn
Perspective from industry analysts...
To reach the unfamiliar, LinkedIn this year revamped its site. It
unfurled a recruiting service for human-resource departments, a
survey application for market research firms and several
advertising services. It launched a new search platform, mobile
service, company profiles and a redesigned home page. And it
served up Spanish and French versions of the site. Jeremiah
Owyang, analyst at Forrester Research, says...LinkedIn's new
additions have made it easier for its members to collaborate not
just with co-workers but people outside of their jobs.
USA Today, Bad news for workers is good news for LinkedIn
"The number one way you find a job is through referral and
LinkedIn is the biggest referral network out there,“ said Charlene
Li, founder of the research outfit Altimeter Group.

using the new option “Send me an email for each new discussion” in More > My Settings.
 Managers and moderators can now delete inappropriate comments right from their email box
by clicking “Delete” within any followed-discussion email alert.
 We are introducing the ability for members to flag items as inappropriate – initially this is a
way for us to gather important data and in a few weeks, this capability will enable members to
flag items into the moderation queue or, if you choose, delete the content outright after an
adjustable number of flags.
 The moderation queue will allow group managers to decide how many member flags can
delete a thread or a comment.

to “Flag-as-job” to move an item into the moderation queue.
 Very-low-connection users will now be flagged as such in groups’ request-to-join queues.
