This document summarizes a presentation on virtual research environments (VREs) and their users. The presentation evaluated JISC-funded VRE and digital repository projects. Key findings included that scientists were more likely to use digital repositories and VREs than other disciplines. Adoption varied based on age, discipline, and experience. Critical factors for adoption included ease of use, integration into workflows, and addressing concerns around privacy and sharing data. Different disciplines had varying requirements around sharing data. Younger researchers and scientists were more open to new technologies, while older researchers and those in the humanities were more reluctant.
