What have you learnt about
technologies from the process of
constructing this product?
Preproduction
Before production we knew that we were going to
use the sony HD 1000 cameras as they are better
quality and we wanted our film to look more
accurate and detailed. I reckon the hand held
cameras are ideal for people who are wanting to
shoot their film using the hand held/ shaky camera
technique . We didn’t plan to shoot our film that
way therefore we had no use for a hand held
camera.
Production
During our production we used a zoom recorder to
create a voice over for our film, we used it for our
flash back scene, we recorded Robyn telling the
story of what is happening throughout her flash
back. It worked really well and was a lot more
effective than if we just recorded the sound with the
filming, it gave it an unrealistic finish as the world
doesn’t suddenly turn black and white and begin to
play surreal music with an unknown voice speaking
throughout.
Post production
To edit our footage we used a software called ‘final cut
express’. Final cut express is a great editing software and I
found it really helpful especially when it came to editing our
last scenes of the flash back. We went through a variety of
colours and washes on those scenes but we finally agreed on
black and white with a slight glow to give it more of a flashback
feel.
There was also the changeover from reality to flashback and
we decided to use a fire turning into a cigarette being lit, final
cut express able us to perform a smooth transition from those
two scenes using a fade in, it worked extremely well and it
honestly couldn’t have gone any better.
Using new technology
At the start of AS media I had no idea how to use the camera
or final cut express. However, I learnt to use them quite
rapidly and picked up a lot of skills along the way, I now feel
comfortable in using these technologies.
My strongest asset that I contributed towards my group was
my editing skills, considering I didn’t help much with the
filming due to me having most screen time I made up for it
through editing our film together and adding all the finishing
touches on and making sure we were fully happy with it
before exporting our film.
Even though I had a chance at filming during the scenes
where I wasn’t included I still feel as though I could’ve learnt
more within that area of our production, the rest of the
group had a better knowledge as they were using the
cameras all the time, therefore, In my opinion this was my
weakest point.
Blogger
Blogger is a new technology to me and at first it seemed quite
strange to be uploading my work onto a blog as I always saw blogs
to be used for social purposes rather than educational. As I got to
used to blogger it seemed logical to be uploading my work onto
blogger, it made things a lot simpler and easier to manage, I knew
where all my work was and what needed to be done.
