What have you
learnt about
technologies from
the process of
constructing this
product?
Sophie Moody
Throughout the course of making my media product I have had to grasp and
understand different aspects of multiple software so that I could use them in order to
edit, create and produce a music magazine. Without these technologies I would not
have been able to achieve as much as I have done and the processes involved in
making a magazine would have been made much more difficult.
The main technology involved in the process of making my media product are:
โ€ข Iphone 5
โ€ข Photoshop
โ€ข Microsoft (PowerPoint and Word)
โ€ข Internet
โ€ข Emaze, Joomag, Blogger, Slideshare
Iphone 5.
In order to form the basis of my magazine I had
to take pictures to represent my artist. To do so I
had used my iphone 5 as the picture quality was
much better than that of my own camera (which
is a Nikon Coolpix L810) therefore I could
produce defined pictures without having to look
for other cameras. From this alone I have learnt
that modern technology such as phones have
improved to such standards that the quality of
their functions are often greater than that of
electronics which carry out the same job.
Furthermore I had used the camera to take
pictures of some of my planning sheets which
were used to layout my magazine and take notes
on what I had to do. This would be used as
evidence in my blog to show how I had planned
on constructing my media product.
Photoshop.
Photoshop was a vital piece in regards to putting my music magazine together. It allows
editing of pictures as well as creating layers, which help me to obtain a professional and
realistic feel to my product. It was used for all my pages being the cover page, contents
page and double page spread. I have learnt that Photoshop is used widely across companies
such as magazines as it allows people to create and edit their work in order to produce a
product of your own. You can manipulate peoples bodies which is common on cover pages-
typically involving models.
In my contents page I had made use of the fact that I could cut out unwanted bits in my
image and edit it into the background to make the picture look more creative and suitable
for my magazine. By cutting around the persons face I was also able to place the title
behind her head in order to create a stereotypical set up of a magazine page.
Microsoft Word/PowerPoint.
Microsoft word and PowerPoint is commonly used in everyday life. I find it simple to
work with as I have needed to use it numerous times and find that it helps when
needing to present something or write up notes.
The main reason for me using Microsoft within my product is so that I can produce
presentations of my research to show how I had come to structure my magazine. It
also allowed me to create answers for my evaluative tasks which were key to analysing
the processes carried out.
Internet.
The internet played a huge role when it came to constructing my own media product.
This is because I could use google to search up images of magazines in order to gain
inspiration when it came do making my own as well as using websites such as blogger
to present my work in stages.
When using the internet for planning and research I found that I came across many
forms and conventions of magazines which I believe were vital in producing my own
product. This enabled me to achieve something that looks professional yet unique as I
could challenge or develop the forms I had identified.
I have learnt that the internet is a very complex software which can provide me with
many benefits in terms of producing my own media product.
Emaze, Joomag, Blogger, Slideshare
When it came to publishing my work, I was able to use a variety of websites to publish my
presentations in different ways. Emaze allowed me to create presentations that were
different in comparison to Microsoft Publisher as it offered a range of different layouts and
animations.
Joomag was a software I particularly liked because it enabled me to publish my final music
magazine in a way that was similar to a real magazine, as you could turn the pages forwards
and backwards. I found this software unique and different which is a development from
publishing my magazine as single images.
Blogger is what I used in order to post weekly blogs and developments of my media
product. Because of this I was able to make my work organised, clear and professional. It
further provides a way of people looking at the work I have done.
In order to post Powerpoints to my blog I was required to use Slideshare. I found this
convenient as without it I would not have been able to post my work onto blogger.
From the use of all these websites it goes to show how wide the internet goes and how
many different ways I am able to produce my work to high enough standards without
having great difficulty.
Conclusion.
Without any of the technologies provided I would not have been able to create such a
detailed and organised product. The fact that I was able to use cameras to structure
my product and use the internet to show evidence of this just goes to show how they
all worked together to construct a professional looking magazine.
It also teaches me about the development of technologies and how they are created
in such a way that it can be used to produce multiple media products in everyday life.
For example the use of Blogger, Emaze and Slideshare which helped me present my
work in different formats as well as widen my knowledge of different softwares
available online.
