Digital Immersion is a program at Riverside that allows students to immerse computers in to their learning similar to how French Immersion immerses French into students learning Digital Immersion teaches us how to use web applications and websites on the internet that can help us not only at school but in our everyday lives.Digital Immersion also lets us immerse technology not only in our info tech course but in Science, English and Social Studies.The Basics
- 3. Digital Immersion frequently uses apps that are associated with Web 2.0Web 2.0 is a term used to describe web apps that do activities like information sharing and user centered design. Examples include social networking sites, video sharing sites, wikis and blogs.Go2Web2.0
- 4. Digital Immersion also lets us take home a digital backpack. This digital backpack allows us to use all the web apps and websites we’ve learned about and bring them home with us.The Digital Backpack
- 5. What we Have Learned We have learned how to bookmark. Bookmarking allows us to quickly get to our favorite web pages without having to type it in.We have also learned how to socially bookmark. This lets us send our friends our bookmarks. For social bookmarking we use websites like Delicious. Recently we have just learned how to use other presentation tools like Google Docs and Prezi. The most useful of these is Prezi which lets us zoom in to our slides when we do our presentation.
- 6. We have also been given SharePoint’s on the Riverside website. We use these to store documents, write down important dates on our calendar and we use wikis on the SharePoint to do our projects.We also use a program called Jing which is a screen casting program. Screen casting means we take a video of a person’s web page and watch as they work on notes and presentations live.
- 7. We also use a multitude of apps like Tiny URL which lets us make our long URL’s smaller. Other apps we use include the IE tab which lets us use the internet’s functions while using a program like Firefox and My Stickies which lets us sticky note web pages.
- 8. This course as I’ve already said lets us take home a digital backpack so just think of all the uses of technology we have at our disposal. If anyone plans on going into a business involving some sort of data management think of the uses. If you have to do a presentation instead of using PowerPoint why not use a way better presentation tool like PreziHow does it benefit us?
- 9. Say you are doing a school project but you need a way to find a page without having to type in the URL you can use Delicious or My Stickies to easily find the pages.· If you want to check how you are doing in school you can use engrade which lets you view your marks in school on the computer.
- 10. · Also if you need to make notes and flashcards for tests you can use websites like Quizlet and Notely.·If you are a talented writer and you have wrote an e-book that you think was really good you can publish it on a website like Scribd.·Finally if you are a teacher or university professor you can use Jing to make a screencast to lecture your class on something their studying.
