Petroleum engineers study the earth to find oil and gas reservoirs. They design equipment and processes to extract oil and gas efficiently and profitably. There are three major types of petroleum engineering: drilling engineers oversee drilling operations and well safety; production engineers study well characteristics and control production; and reservoir engineers design field development and determine how to recover the most resources. A bachelor's degree in petroleum engineering is required, which includes courses in math, science, and engineering, with a focus on subjects related to drilling, production, and reservoirs in the last two years. The objective of petroleum engineering is to supervise and manage oil field operations.

They supervise the construction and operation of oil and gas fields. Petroleum engineers with other scientists are researching new technologies to allow more oil and gas to be extracted from each well by a less dig cost . They help supply the world's need for energy and chemical raw materials. They design equipment and processes to achieve the maximum profitable recovery of oil and gas. 3

He is responsible for the design of the earth penetration techniques, the selection of casing and safety equipment and often direction of operation. They determine the best way to drill an oil or gas well and ensure that the drilling process is safe, efficient, and minimally disruptive to the environment. Drilling engineers will spend the first two to three years of their career in the field on drilling rigs.
