Android is an open-source software platform and operating system based on the Linux kernel. It was developed by Android Inc which was later acquired by Google in 2005. Android supports communication over 3G, 4G, WiFi and Bluetooth networks. It allows users access to millions of applications. Some key versions included Android 1.0 in 2008, Android 2.0 in 2009 which added search and voice features, and Android 3.0 in 2011 which added support for tablets.
