        Why learning about Health “ When you have your health, you have just about everything”.You might have heard this saying before. What does it mean to you? Most people agree that good health is one of the most important things a person could have. When you are healthy, you can enjoy life more fully.
Good health helps you think clearly and get along with others at school.Good health keeps your body working properly so you can enjoy your play.Good health helps you look and feel your best.
Learning about health is important because you are making more and more decisions about your own health. For example, you might decide what to eat for lunch or do after school .
What can help you make healthy food choices? A grocery store has many different kinds of foods to choose from. Most of the foods are in attractive packages. People often have a difficult time deciding which foods to buy. You might choose foods because you like their taste, smell, or colour. The four food group can help you choose health food, and how much of each kind of food to eat.
WHAT ARE THE FOUR FOOD GROUPS?
Vegetable-fruit group Most of the nutrients in these foods help your body work as it should. You need four serving from this group each day.
Bread-cereal group Most of the nutrients in these foods give your body energy. You need four servings from the bread-cereal group each day.
Meat-poultry-fish-bean group Most of the nutrients in these foods help your body grow. You need two servings from the meat-poultry-fish-bean group each day-
Milk-cheese group The foods in these group have many different kinds of nutrients. Some nutrients help yor body grow. Some nutrients give you energy. Some help your body work as it should. You need three servings from the milk-cheese group each day.
Do you remember ...? What are the name of the four food groups? How many servings from each group are needed each day? What can be used to help make healthy food choices? How do nutrients help keep the body healthy?
Do you eat the right food?
Stephen Robinson, a government adviser on food and diet, is worried about the diet of young British people today. In a recent statement he said that young people in the UK ate too much junk food. He added that young children especially did not eat enough fruits and vegetabes. One inventive food company has started to produced a range of vegetables with “trendy” flavuors to make them more attractive to children.
The government is now preparing to carry out a food survey of young people. It is training interviewers to visit young people at home or at school and discuss their diet with them, and also to show them how to prepare a food diary for seven days.
The idea is that the food authorities can then find out exactly what is in the diet of young people. If necessary, they can then encourage young people to include the right balance of protein, fat and carbohydrates in their diet. Perhaps we will have a healthier population in the future!
Remember... Why is Robinson worried about the diet of young British people? What are the interviewers for the food survey going to do? What will the government find out from the survey? The article mentions three things which we find in food? What are they?
