- 2. A wiki is software that allows users to collaboratively create, edit, link, and organize the content of a website. They are often used to create collaborative websites and to power community websites.
- 3. Example Wikipedia, one the largest and most well known wikis is a collaboratively created encyclopedia, owned by no one and authored by tens of thousands of users. It is 10 times bigger than Encyclopedia Britannica and roughly the same accuracy. It runs on a wiki platform and allows for users to edit pages
- 4. Wiki Benefits Easy to use / Easy to Learn Simple to implement Web-based Anyone can make changes Version control Searchable Enables collaboration Inexpensive A cost effective way to access information, share knowledge, collaborate, and contribute ‘expertise’ without requiring technical savvy
- 5. What can a Wiki help us do? Promote collaboration Establish an institutional memory Enhance knowledge management Share documents without taxing email in-boxes Cut down on email exchanges between co-workers Find what we are looking for in a controlled environment Help us diminish the boundaries and limitations of time and space In essence, a Wiki will assist Cox in further realizing one of its core objectives: Collaboration and capitalize on its collective intelligence.
- 6. Content & Access & Points of Consideration Accessibility: How open are we willing to be? Transparency: Who can see what? Responsibility: Who is responsible for what? Sensitivity: How sensitive is the ‘content’? A good Wiki platform allows for the site admin to configure the environment in a way that is consistent with the goals of the initiative.
