What is a wiki? An Hawaiian bus service A website or similar online resource which allows users to add and edit content collectively.  A tool for developing shared knowledge
Why use a Wiki? To engage students in knowledge creation To develop skills of critique and review To allow for instant publication of student research and ideas To hand over knowledge taxonomy to students

Wiki as assessment Project: Civil Rights in the USA 1950 – 1970 You and your group will develop a wiki which tells the story of civil rights in the USA.  Your wiki can include text, images, video, sound or other media. Your wiki will be reviewed by your classmates.
Criteria Sound navigation and structure Quality content covering people, events and issues Broad evidence (primary and secondary) with a range of media Complete and ethical attribution
rubric Feature Highly Developed Satisfactory  In need of improvement  Taxonomy (Structure) Provides a logical and clear guide to all the content of the wiki (3-5 marks) Provides a guide to the content of the wiki (2-3) marks) Navigation present but not clearly related to the content (1) Content Demonstrates a well developed understanding of the people, issues and main events of the civil rights movement (6 marks) Demonstrates some understanding of the civil rights movement (4 marks) Lists some of the people and events of the civil rights movement  (2 marks) Evidence A wide selection of relevant primary and secondary sources from a range of media (4 marks) A selection of relevant primary and secondary sources (2 marks) Some primary and secondary sources (1 mark) Attribution Original text and complete attribution of sources (4 -5 marks) Original text and attribution of most sources (1-3 marks) Plagiarism and no attribution (zero marks)
