- 4. Notification Area • Includes a clock and a group of icons. • The icons display the status of a service or application and allows you to change some settings. • Displays pop-ups to notify you about something. • You can hide icons to reduce clutter.

- 6. Windows Snap • Snap to the left and right to make a Window take up only half the page. • Snap to the top to maximize a Window so it takes up the full screen.
- 7. Working With Files and Folders • Files contain information. They are represented on your computer as icons. • Folders contain a set of Files. You can also store folders in other folders. • In Windows all files have an extension (ie: .doc) by default this extension is hidden the extension tells Windows which application can read the file. • Files and folder contain different permissions which detail whether a user can read and/or write to the file. • All your personal files should be stored in either your Desktop or My Documents folder. • Files can be moved copied or renamed. • When working with files try not to make duplicates it can become difficult to figure out which file has the most relevant version. You should however keep a backup of your files for home computers (a backup is a archived copy). Here at work your files are backed up on the server.

- 9. Devices and Printers • Access via the Start menu or Control Panel. • Shows all installed Devices and Printers. • To remove a printer right click and select remove devices. • To add a printer click “Add a printer”

- 11. Help and Support • Start -> Help and Support to access • Search for any help topic or browse the contents.
- 12. Trouble? • Alt + F4 - closes the current Window/Application without mouse input. • Ctrl + Shift + Esc - Opens task manager where you can end misbehaving applications or services. • Try a reboot.
