Windows Citrix environment

 This document is useful for those who are interested in
setting up Citrix windows Environment on your Personal
PC. In our company, we used to install drivers on Citrix
Environment for which we need XEN server and Client.
Here I have briefly described the steps to install driver in
Citrix environment.
 User no need to install multiple application on Personal
PC, instead they could install just one application (Citrix
remote access) that gives a virtual desktop in a window.
 XenApp and XenDesktop allow you to deploy and manage
virtual apps and desktops from a single platform, with
integrated monitoring tools that keep you informed and a
great end-user experience that maximizes productivity.

 Citrix Systems, Inc. is an American multinational software
company founded in 1989 that provides server, application
and desktop virtualization, networking, software-as-a-
service (SaaS), and cloud computing technologies,
including Xen open-source products.
 Citrix is the leader in app and desktop virtualization. Citrix
is the leader in application and desktop virtualization,
providing a complete, flexible solution that delivers
Windows applications and desktops to any user on any
device while keeping valuable information locked down in
the datacenter.

 It is hard for any enterprise to buy “n” no of licensed
softwares for “n” number of employees.
 Only one employee can use one particular
software/application at a time.
 To use any application(eg.MS office) , company has to pay
for the licensed software.
 Using Citrix Environment,One application can be shared by
“n” number of employees at a time.
 Application(eg. MS word,Adobe, Print driver ets..) will be
installed in Server(XEN server) and Clients connected to
the server(XEN) can use the application(XEN app) installed
in clients side. Here any number of clients can be
connected to Server.

 Step1:
Open the Internet Explorer->In LAN Settings->Set the Proxy

Go to Device and Printers-> select any print queue and then
select “Print Server Properties”.

 Step3:
Select the Drivers tab and then select Add… Install the driver.
 Step 4:
Progress through the wizard to add the driver(s) you intend to test.
This will add the driver to the server, but will not create a print
queue. Citrix will create print queues with this driver when you log
into the server from the client.

 Step1:
Now start the client. Log in with an administrator account.
Open the Internet Explorer->In LAN Settings->Set the Proxy

First you need to login to Citrix. This is accomplished with the Citrix
Online Plug-in which is found in the taskbar.
 Right Click and select Change Server to login.
 “Change Server- Citrix online-plugin” window will be opened.

 Step3:
Click on the Update button. Window to enter User name and
Password will appear.
 Step4:
In Citrix Online Plug-in-Click on Log-on button to connect
with the Citrix Server

In Citrix Online Plug-in –Enter User name, password and Domain.
Once you have logged into Citrix, application shortcuts will appear on
the desktop. “Hosted Desktop”, MS Word, Adobe Reader. These are
hosted applications. These applications run on the Citrix server and
not on the local client.

 Step5:
Now create print queues on the client with the driver(s) you intend
to test. When choosing driver models make sure that you select the
same ones you did on the server. So for example, if you added the
“XXX” model to the Citrix server make sure you select the same
model when you create print queues on the client.
 Step6:
Start the Hosted Desktop, which is the Citrix equivalent of Remote
Desktop.

 Step7:
In the Hosted Desktop open the Devices and Printers folder. Inside
you should see auto-created print queues. Auto-created print queues
can be distinguished by their queue names, which contain a session
number.

 Step8:
Immediately after entering Hosted Desktop the following message
pops up.[For security
 Go to Internet Explorer ->In LAN Settings->Set the Proxy
 In hosted Desktop-open Citrix Online Plug-in and Enter User
name,password and Domain
 Step10:
In Server Desktop – Open the Published Word Application and Start

Citrix online plug-in
Citrix online plug-in not contacted the
server. Please check your remote
connection.

When you close the Hosted Desktop make sure you log off. Avoid
selecting the “X” to close the Host Desktop window. When you close
the window with the “X” button Citrix doesn’t close the hosted
session. So your auto-created print queues will not be cleaned up.
If you close the Hosted Desktop just log in again and then log off.
This also applies to hosted applications. To exit a hosted application
and end the Citrix session select File, Exit.
In Server Desktop-Printing Properties – Printer Status will not be
Available. Which is Expected Behavior.

When you have logged out of the Hosted Desktop log in
again. Once logged in open the Devices and Printers folder
and examine the print queues. What you are looking for are
duplicate print queues. So for example you might see
something like “XXX Printer 745 in session 2” and “XXX
Printer 745 in session 3” in the Devices and Printers folder at
the same time. This indicates that the print queue from
session 2 was not cleaned up properly. This is a serious issue
and would likely require a driver defect.
