WEBSITE MAINTENANCE SUPPORT
This document is prepared for portfolio demonstration purpose. As per agreement in between
the contractor “41 Alphas” and the sub-contractor, Digital Systems (DS), we (DS) provided
website maintenance support to contractor's Client “Change Communications Ltd.” website
“Change Broadband” at http://change-broadband.ca/site from June 20 – 24, 2015. Website
contents and job request received via email. As soon individual work was completed, we
informed both Client and contractor. All works performed on password-protected mode.
Assignments, Client interactions, praises, etc. attached.

Information associated with above Home page:
As per Client request at 20/06/2015 3:16 PM, we started work on logo replacement. Aside of
native file of the logo found on Google Drive, there was three different size of the logo images in
PNG format:

The following existing old logo dimensions found on front-end site was 200px x 62px. Here is the
screenshot how logo was aligned with navigational menu bar:

In order to maintain the consistent look in between logo and navigational menu bar, we
reshaped and optimized the recommended logo dimensions 200px x 100px to 292px × 50px, also
modified CSS code. Here is the screenshot how logo is aligned & set finally:

20/06/2015 2:27 PM – we notified our Client and Contractor on WordPress admin access issue:
“Hi Client & Contractor, thanks for the opportunity. For your information, I got 404 error while entered

Saturday, June 20, 2015 2:41 PM – got following reply from the Contractor:
“I updated the Google Doc. Please let me know if there are any other issues.”
20/06/2015 2:53 PM – informed Client following information:

Saturday, June 20, 2015 3:16 PM – Following assignment received from Client:
“Maybe you can start with replacing the old change broadband logos on each page of the site with the
new change broadband logos in green from the Google drive? Thank you.”
20/06/2015 4:21 PM – Emailed Client following:
“assuming to add attached logo on the site. By the way, I got following error while tried to login via FTP Client
(FileZilla 3.5.3):
Response: 530 Login authentication failed
Error: Critical error
Error: Could not connect to server
For your information, I used following FTP credentials:
Host: hostname
Port: port number

User: username
Password: password
Also, got following message when specified the default remote directory: ~/public_html/changebb:
“Default remote path cannot be parsed. Make sure it is a valid absolute path for the selected server type”

“If possible, can we use the same logo as the landing page for the site? Any access issues will have to
be directed to Contractor I'm afraid. ”
20/06/2015 5:17 PM – informed Client following information:
“I reshaped & optimized the logo size to recommended dimension 200px*100px. Please review it and advise.”
Saturday, June 20, 2015 5:17 PM – got following reply from Contractor on FTP issue:
“I will have to check the FTP.
Why don't you upload via WordPress interface in the meanwhile?”
20/06/2015 7:29 PM – reply Contractor as follows:
“The logo related assigned work is done and under review. Other tasks do not receive yet.”
Saturday, June 20, 2015 10:09 PM – got following request (from "Client") to change:
“Can we make it just a bit larger please? I'm looking at it on a cell phone and a tablet and the logo looks a touch
small.”
21/06/2015 2:00 AM – answered Client request:
“

Please see the attachment, there almost no space left in between logo and menu bar after making some
adjustment with the logo size 230px*65px (previously it was 200x100).
Please review and let me know if require further any adjustment.”
21/06/2015 2:22 AM – provided following additional information:
“Please note that the default layout padding (top and bottom) of the header container (where the logo and
menu bar located) 25px top and 25px bottom and minimum logo height 50px (original-logo-menu-bar-
padding.png) . For the consistency, suggesting to make some padding adjustment on the top: 15px and bottom
45px (please see logo-menu-bar-padding.png) or please advise.”
21/06/2015 10:29 AM - provided following additional information as alternate solution:
“good morning. I got an easy to fix solution making the top and bottom padding size 20px and logo dimension
230px × 50px. In this way, I was able to reduce the height 10px on mobile and tablet view, at the same time
maintaining the consistent look for desktop version.
In order to implement the above, it is necessary to make some change on .main_menu class (top:39px to 19px)
of layout.css file. I do not see WordPress interface (4.png) has the option to make this change done from the
back-end, so, I need FTP access.”

21/06/2015 11:49 AM – received following job request for Data Services Page:
“Attached is the text I would like to display on our Data Services page. Also, I have included an image for you
to insert. Please size it accordingly. You can remove the existing text and images.”

I need FTP access for that, alternately, I can install and use a WP plugin which is not recommended.”
Sunday, June 21, 2015 6:25 PM – Got following reply from the Client:
“The page looks good from what I can see on my phone. Can we do the other two pages? You will have
to check with Contractor for any ftp access or constructors access.”
21/06/2015 7:23 PM - reply back to the Client as follows:
“I prefer to wait at least for tomorrow, in case Daniel solve the FTP issue or provide me cPanel access to use file
manager to maintain a SEO-friendly folder for the IMAGEs. Meanwhile, I will make ready all the file conversions
for other two pages.”

 removed repetitive headline
 re-touched, optimized and converted iStock_data protection.jpg (4500x4500) file to data-
services.png (300px × 247px, transparent background, rounded corner)

year 1. You may remove the entire tab at the top of the screen.”

the item (Voice Services) from the main menu?”

“Correct. The entire page may be removed as we will NOT be offering voice services in year 1.”
21/06/2015 8:47 PM – asked additional question below (that they can restore the file from TRASH
folder when will be needed):

"You can delete it entirely as if it never existed anywhere."
21/06/2015 9:32 PM - aside of informing Client about the restoration option, we provided
additional work below:
"I moved it to TRASH folder which can be restored too (in case not deleted permanently).
Since we got some space in the header section, I optimized the provided logo (change-
broadband-SM.png from Google Drive) and replaced it."

whether the SITE folder is for temporary use (until the site launch) or it will remain forever?

I skimmed and found absolute vs. relative paths for URLs come into question.
Muhammad, please do whatever is easiest and most elegant/maintainable - I recommend using
relative paths for portability - I would contend that the advice cited from CoffeeCup website is
deprecated if not obsolete, given the developments with frameworks and websites being more
application-based (e.g. WordPress, Drupal, Laravel PHP framework, etc.); we can discuss this
further without bothering Michael if you wish in a separate thread or when we can get together."
22/06/2015 5:50 PM - replied to Contractor "My intention was just to get your confirmation
whether or not to use relative image path to maintain the consistency as by default site is using
absolute path. Also, as we know information is power, who knows, may be in future this
information will save time or development cost, if the site is getting moved to another server or
sub-domain."

replace Home item with About Us page(s) (as drop down menu item, if more than one).
In regards of the carousel images. Currently, we have 3 services and you have provided 4
carousel images. More importantly, your provided images are not reflecting your services (at least
iStock_medical.jpg for sure) to be linked appropriate pages (data services, cloud services and data

center pages). Even, they are not reflects the service plans, resellers, equipment (1, 2, 3, 4).
By the way, do you want me to replace existing carousel images with your provided images
(iStock_ethernet.jpg, iStock_medical.jpg, iStock_save money.jpg, iStock_solution.jpg)?

have chosen default directory root as change-tv.com as attached. As result, all operations
performed are gone to that directory. Although, I’m going to clean them up, I’m afraid .htaccess
file may be rewritten by WordPress .htaccess file.
I’m very sorry for this."

Although we were hired to alter text and images site wide, we went beyond performing following
summary of work:
 got familiar with the documents including site access information on Google Drive
 reviewed front-end and back-end site structures & settings
 backup existing site contents (WordPress site files with cPanel file manager and database
with phpMyAdmin)
 troubleshoot with .htaccess while work with password-protected directory using cPanel
(all updates made on password protected mode; once work completed, removed the
password protection to launch the site publicly)
 studied & researched site template resources/documentations as problem arisen or to
answer Client question, also to know its available features to be used when require
 troubleshoot (whether it is WordPress or HTML based) and removed site splash page
 researched and recommended WordPress add-on as requested
 re-touched, optimized and converted provided images to fit the right size of the site
contents responsively
 maintained SEO-friendly image path and tags (url, alt, heading, etc.)
 replaced existing information and manually wrote HTML code to update provided
contents in WordPress editor's text mode

