Working group members discussed evidence for the profitability of technologies for smallholder farmers and strategies for promoting adoption. They identified several areas where more evidence was needed, such as using mobile technologies for extension services and barriers to adopting irrigation and water storage solutions. Strategies discussed for promoting technology included tying input information to purchases, building social capital through groups, and addressing challenges like how to provide digital information to farmers and reduce gender disparities in access to information. Key questions focused on assessing profitability, taking best practices from other countries and questioning assumptions about what defines technology and evidence of success.
