This document discusses using brain computer interfaces (BCI) to detect thoughts based on event-related potentials (ERPs) elicited during priming experiments. Specifically, it describes how the N400 ERP can be used to detect whether a person is thinking about an object they were previously primed with by analyzing their EEG response to probe words related to the prime. With further research building on this priming approach, the document suggests BCI may one day be able to directly read a person's thoughts, though it currently can only detect simple physiological responses and mental states like relaxation or imagined movement.
