Guidelines
Do not use more than 3 levels (levels)
Use unique names for your items
Make names easy to scan (short & concise)
Let’s warm up first
Cardsorting
Card sorting is used after the content has been analyzed and all
user profiles are known. After this session, the results are being
analyzed and conclusions will be drawn, which form the basis for
the information structure of the website

Let’s start with an exercise with a set of cards
Warming-up
Sort the cards by color (black, red)
Group these cards by category (e.g. hearts, diamonds)
Finally group them specification (with illustration and
without illustration)

Grouping
User thinking, what are his/her needs?
• Divide the cards into groups
• Which cards are important? Which ones are less important?
• Do not use more than 10 items
• If the groups are larger than 10, divide them again (do not use
more than 3 levels / levels)

Categorize
User thinking, what are his/her needs?
• Put groups that belong together in the same pile
• Write down a category name for each group
• Do not use more than 3 levels
• Use understandable unique names for your categories &
make sure they are short and concise
