every crevice of knowledge hoping that one day meaning will be found in our sinful journey through
time. Anxiety of what awaits the ending days plunges humans deeper into fear and doubt, giving W. H.
Auden a needles amount of material for his sardonic masterpiece on the human function, The Age of
Anxiety. Auden truly encapsulates diversity in his writing, always transitioning from prose to verse
and from thought to speech. Auden begins part three of The Age of Anxiety in prose with At first all is
dark and each walks alone. What they share is only the feelings of remoteness and desertion, of having
marched for miles and miles, of having lost their bearings, of a restless urge to find water , then

It is not very well known that the Gothic in Gothic architecture was meant as an insult by supporters
of classic Greek architecture because they thought the style was barbarous and rude. But most French
and European architects thought differently. That is why you can still see the presence of the Gothic

located in Florence, Italy. Used during the late medieval period, and easily identified by the arched

In this section I will be detailing and comparing the relationships between China Japan, China
Australia, and China Venezuela. I am first going to start with the relationship between China and
Japan. I will begin with the time frame between the years of 1949 1969. During this time, China sees
Japan as a threat, which is not surprising because of Japan s assault against China in the 1890s to
1920s, Japans brutal occupation of China in the 1930s and 1940s and Japan s role in America s
containment strategy against China. China counters Japan by forming a military alliance with the

On April 10th, 11th, and 12th, Anchorage Opera performed a modernized rendition of Wolfgang
Amadeus Mozart s last opera; The Magic Flute (1791). The cast consisted of quite a few local

Analysis Of Mihayao Spirited Away By Miyazaki Hayao...
In a traditional or typical family, it is always understood that children are meant to and able to rely on
their parents for both safety and emotional support. In the film by Miyazaki Hayao Spirited Away, we
observe a family far from the traditional sense of the word. Much of this film is about a young ten year
old girl who is forced to save herself and her parents from being forever stuck in a world separate of
their own. The relationships she loses and gains form her into a different person than who she is in the
beginning of the film. Susan Napier asserts in her book Anime from Akira to Howl s Moving Castle
Chihiro is a bratty child with parents who seem to be detached with her and as we see in the film
selfish and indulgent in their own desires (181). These factors all contribute to the development and
relationships of Chihiro in the film as well as the idea of family. At the beginning of the film as
Chihiro and her parents are driving to their new home in the countryside, we are introduced to the type
of relationships and personality of the family members. Napier describes her parents as disconnected
from each other and their daughter and Chihiro as a whiny, sullen, and self obsessed child (181). Right
off the bat we are able to see a significant difference in what a family is considered to be and how it is
represented in the film. As mentioned before a family is meant to care for each other and parents are
meant to care for their children especially, however perhaps because of these circumstances we are led
on the journey of Chihiro s evolution from that of a spoiled child to a braver and assertive child. Upon
getting lost in the forest by taking a shortcut, the father decides instead of trying to find their way back
to the road, on exploring the mysterious tunnel and the mother follows, telling Chihiro to stay in the
car while they go off to see what is on the other end.
Already we see how different the role of the father is portrayed as someone who thinks of his own
desires and being before that of his wife or daughter. In the traditional role of a father, he is the person

The fear of rebellion is what gave the colonies the idea to pass a chain of laws that restricted many of
the slave s rights. Each colony had a diverge set of ideas about the rights of the slaves. There were
some similar aspects in the slave codes across the land where slavery was the most frequent. Slaves
were legally considered property, which did not give them the option to own land. If there was no
presence of a white person, slaves were not allowed to congregate. Any slave that lived off the
plantation had to follow the special curfew or there would be severe consequences. In the chance that
a slave was in court being accused of any criminal act towards a white person, the slave would have
no chance to testify. Slaves were always absent in the jury. Slave codes had many destructive effects
on the lives of African Americans. It was illegal to teach a slave how to read and write. Many white

replace the current Italian Pope with one that he elected. During the Great Schism, there were two
popes claiming authority over the Catholic Church. Following the split, the papal offices began to lose
their authority. Ultimately, the cardinals of both popes decided that an ecumenical council of godly
men could collectively possess more divine authority that just one pope. In 1409 at the council of Pisa,
the church council was asked to elect a new pope that would unite the sides, meaning there would be
three popes. Now, there was Pope Urban VI from Italy, Pope Clement VII from France, and the new
member, Pope Alexander V. Neither the Roman or French popes were willing to give up their power,
now creating a three way battle for the church s authority. From 1414 1418, the Council of Constance
was successful in healing the Schism, leading to the resignation of the Roman Pope. The schism was
