Home Office
Abstract A day at the office no longer means long commutes, dressing in a suit and tie or a dress,
and performing work according to a 9 to 5 schedule with the boss looking over your shoulder.
With the Industrial Revolution came change in how and where people work. The changes were
seen subtly at first; people slowly moved to the cities to find work in factories, but then the
changes started becoming more noticeable. People flocked to the cities because that is where a
person could find work. The days of the small farmer who grew food for his own family were
gone. Big corporations moved in and people were hired in by the hundreds, usually to perform
meaningless, dreary, work. Modern society is seeing a new kind of Industrial Revolution... Show

Another limitation is more studies need to be performed with the companies and employees to
research if the home office is working for both. Trends of Moving from the Employer s Office to
the Home Office With the invention of the telephone and the introduction of the internet along
with other technological advances more people are making the transition from working at the
office to working from home. Home offices are often referred to as virtual offices or virtual
companies. VOXmarketing is a virtual company . It has no headquarters, no cubicles, no
employee break room, no HR office where it takes job applications.... workers are connected via
phones, e mail, and the Internet (Shartin, 2006). Matt Bai, (2007), Political Writer for the New
York Times (NYT), states that in [Mark Penn s] new book, Microtrends , [Penn]...notes that 4.2
million Americans now work exclusively from home (a nearly 100 percent increase from 1990),
while some 20 million do it part time. Some of these workers are employees who telecommute to
traditional offices, but most represent a kind of modern, untethered American work force . Bai
goes on to say that [these people] do most of their work in the comfort of their own homes, or in
their cars, or maybe at Starbucks . One question that needs answered is if a person wants to work
from home and their job duties allow them to work from a remote area, then why shouldn t
companies help the employee make this happen? Bai, (2007),

Creating a Social Program for the Homeless
Final Project: Creating a Social Program I have decided to create a social program that identifies
the social problem of Homelessness. The new human services, social program will target
helping homeless individuals and families to get off the streets. In order to have a successful
program I have to come up with an outline and cover all of the basics. This program will have
many different resources available to homeless or about to be homeless individuals and
families. There are so many homeless people out there and her in the state of Florida there are
not many places for homeless people to turn to for comfort and safety. So I am truly excited to
be creating this new program that will help many people to go forward and live wonderful and
successful lives, no matter what they have been through. Throughout this paper I will be
discussing some of the things that are needed in order to start an organization. This paper will
serve as an outline or an information source on how to create a social program as well as the
social program that I am creating. Basic Information and Demographics The name of the social
program that I have come up with is called New Beginnings. This organization will be a
community service program for the homeless population. Deciding on a place to put the
organization is very important because it is best to try and target an area that is in need of the
services. After some careful research the demographic area that I have chosen to place this

Oil Industry
Group 16:
Econ Project #1
Due: 16 October 2003
Introduction by Jamie Ifkovits: Oil is certainly the world s largest cash commodity. One of the
main products produced from crude oil is gasoline. Gas plays a significant role in the life of
people in countries throughout the world. Gas accounts for approximately 17% of the energy
consumed in the United States and is primarily used for powering automobiles ( A Primer on
Gasolne Prices 5 Oct 2003). The prices paid by customers at the pumps reflects the price of
production and delivery, the retail costs, and taxes ( A Primer on GasolinePrices 5 Oct 2003). By
1932 all of the states had excised taxes on gasoline and the federal government introduced its first
tax on gasoline. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This price fall is stated in the law of supply. There maybe a surplus, which would cause the price
to fall more. The quantity will increase from Q1to Q2 because there is more gasoline in the area.
Question 2 by Jeremy Simmons
This increase in tax will initially be paid for by the suppliers. The prices will rise at about the same
rate since all suppliers will be paying the same tax. This will cause the price in all gasoline stations
to increase there prices by at least 50Вў. Since the price has increased the quantity demanded will
decrease. This is shown in the law of demand. Since the quantity demanded has decreased this
means that there will be less gasoline sold because people will not want to pay the high prices
for gasoline. The majority of the tax increase will be paid for by both the consumer and the
suppliers. This is because of elasticity, but more so deadweight loss, which is a reduction in the
number of transactions that take place as a result of a tax increase (Miller 2001) .
Question 3 by Doug Miller
Prices for gasoline tend to be greater along the Pennsylvania Turnpike than they are at the turnpike
exits. This happens because rest stop gas stations receive a greater volume of traffic than stations
located at the exits. This increased number of vehicles visiting the gas station forces the demand
curve to shift outward from its original position. The supply curve however, stays constant. There
are no production factors that affect the supply

The Pros and Cons of the Great Migration Essay
The Great Migration was a huge relocation of African Americans from the Southern states of the
United States to northern and Midwestern cities. This occurred between the years of 1910 and
1970. Over 6 million African Americans traveled to Northern cities during the migration. Some
northern city destinations were Richmond, D.C, Baltimore, New York, and Newark. Western and
Midwestern destinations were those such as Los Angelos, San Francisco, St. Louis, Chicago, and
Detroit. During this time period and previous years, Jim Crow lawsin the South were greatly in

Reconstruction had ended, white supremacy had taken it s toll in the South and Jim Crow had...

In this paper I will use a variety of sources, mainly secondary sources, to explain my point on the
Great Migration being beneficial. The primary source that I do use in this paper is an interview
of an individual who participated in the Great Migration. His name is James Green, as I have
mentioned him before. The interview he participated in was conducted for a Black Migration
project. Because he has been a part of this mass movement of African Americans, it makes him a
reliable source. Now I will explain a few of my other sources. A secondary source I used is from
the Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture which comes from the New York Public
Library. This site known as In Motion: The African AmericanMigration Experience, gives
background information about what the Great Migration was, it s causes, and what life was like in
the North. It also provides resources such as images, maps, and texts relating to the migration. One
of the research papers I use for this paper came from a student from Boston University, but Harvard
University owns a copy of it. This paper titled The Great Migration s Impact On the Education of
Southern born African Americans explains the effects on education in the North of Southern born
African Americans who came to the North during The Great Migration. Another source displayed in

CHAPTER 3
Comparison with Edgar Allan Poe, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle and Agatha Christie
When we talk about creation of fictional detectives, the one author who made the most famous
and celebrated fictional detective was Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. Rowling have followed the
tradition of creating a fictional detective and weaving the cases around him, like in The Cuckoo s
Calling, not only are we taken in depth of the life of the murdered model, we are also given the
flashbacks and understanding of Cormoran Strike himself, which isn t done by either Sir Arthur
Conan Doyle or Agatha Christie, who created two different series of stories and novels of two
different fictional detectives, namely, Hercule Poirot and Miss Marple. We aren t given any

Strike was appointed to fail at his job and wasn t taken as a person who can successfully pull off
the job of a detective. But of course, the success of the detective in the novel is always predicted;
except for Agatha Christie s And Then There were None where no one could solve the mystery
until they found the letter which explained everything. The killer was obsessed with killing
people, but at the same time did not want to kill innocent people, he wanted to create a mystery
which no one could solve and in this novel, the success was achieved by the

A Spiritual Gain but a Financial Lose
Meditation has always been seen as a way to keep the mind and soul healthy. Mediation dates back
to 1500 BCE originating in Ancient India. The practice soon started to expand and adapt to other
cultures around the world. Some of the earliest references to meditation are found in the Hindu
scriptures and it was around the 6th to 5th centuries that other forms of meditation developed into
Confucian, Taoist China, and Buddhist India (Taham). This spiritual and religious practice has
been around for thousands of years, benefiting many people. However, in the year 2017 mediation
no longer feels like a spiritual practice but rather like ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Research suggests that meditation may physically change the brain and body and could potentially
help to improve many health problems and promote healthy behaviors. In a 2012 study,
researchers compared brain images from 50 adults who meditate and 50 adults who don t meditate.
Results suggested that people who practiced meditation for many years have more folds in the
outer layer of the brain. This process (called gyrification) may increase the brain s ability to process
information (Meditation: In Depth).
In many ways, the scientific studies showing how positive mediation has created this craze of
mediation. Mediation can be linked to many exercise practices such as yoga. Meditation and yoga
go hand in hand. Spending a few minutes of meditating then go into a hard body workout of yoga
than ending the class with meditation. Many private yoga studies promote the practice of
meditation and yoga increasing prices of their facility. Famous instructor Holly Rilinger is a perfect
example. Rilinger has created this workout called Calm and Cardio starting with a five minute
guided meditation and then launches into cardio and strength training intervals using bodyweight
and dumbbells. During each song, you alternate between two exercises while moving to the beat of
the booming music (Held). She has combined meditation with exercises and is now using this
technique of meditation to create an empire.
Exercise meditation is not the only thing that is expanding. There are

Who Was The Most Responsible For The Tragic Events In Macbeth
Macdeath
You probably don t know who was most responsible for the tragic events that occur in the play.
Well you re in luck, I m going to show you who is responsible for all the tragic events that occur. I
believe that Macbeth is the cause of all the tragic events that occur in the play.
Macbeth causes the first tragic event in this play, which is the murder of King Duncan.
The text states, And on thy blade and dudgeon, gouts of blood (Shakespeare II.1.45). This text is
telling us that there is blood on Macbeth s dagger and who s blood would that be? You guessed it
King Duncan s blood. This is what started the whole blood thirsty and power thing for
Macbeth because soon after Macbeth found bloody daggers on the guards Macbeth killed them.

Macbeth snaps him out of it, but later he sees the ghost again and is done for the night. Now you see
Macbeth is getting less innocent as this play goes on. He is pulling all of these tragic events out of
thin air, but there s more.
Some more time passes and Macbeth gets the idea that he should have Macduff s family murdered
so he calls more assassins and has them kill Macduff s wife and children which again are innocent
people. The text states, He has killed me, mother./ Run away , I pray you,/ [Lady
Macduff exits, crying Murder (Shakespeare IV.2.80 82). Soon Macduff hears about this news and
he is ready to kill Macbeth, so he gets his army to go to Macbeth s castle. Macbeth and
Macduff end up duking it out at the end. As always the good prevails and Macduff slayed
Macbeth and chopped his head off, which by the way is another tragic event.
Some may disagree with me saying that Macbeth caused the tragic events in this

The Environmental Justice Movement
Environmental Justice Paper
Environmental Justice is the fair treatment and meaningful involvement of all people regardless of
race, color, national origin, or income with respect to the development, implementation, and
enforcement of environmental laws, regulations, and policies . In other words, your health should
not suffer because of the environment where you live, work, play or learn. The idea of
environmental justice began as a movement in the 1970s due to the realization that an excessive
number of polluting industries, power plants, and landfill areas were located near low income or
minority communities. The movement was set in place to guarantee fair distribution of
environmental burdens among all people regardless of their background. ... Show more content on

Reproduction In Brave New World
Reproduction Throughout the course of history, reproduction has been a vital part of all living
organisms. To most living things, reproduction is the only purpose of their existence and if they do
not reproduce, they have not reached their goal in life. Humans are the first animal to break this
rule. In reality, humans live to be successful and happy and this defines their life instead of
reproduction. In the novel Brave New World by Aldous Huxley, the author portrays reproduction
as something that is prohibited and something that will only happen in a laboratory. In the story,
people are being produced with the Bokanovsky s Process . This process is done by splitting one
egg into different 96 different eggs essentially creating 96 different... Show more content on

It is also stated in the story that viviparous birth is strictly prohibited and should not ever be
performed. Huxley is trying to make a statement that people are slowly neglecting the importance of
reproduction and in the future there will be less of viviparous birth and more artificial birth.
Huxley is also making a statement that technology is changing the way humanity functions. The
intelligence of humanity is backfiring causing people to decline in their awareness in the world.
Technology is so advanced that it is changing how humanity functions. Huxley makes a statement of
where the future of humanity is going if it keeps going do the same path. As stated in the previous
paragraph, all living organisms in existence reproduce. From the smallest single celled organisms to
the largest mammals on Earth, the goal of living things has been to reproduce. Humans have
violated this rule. Reproduction is important and should be kept as a human trait unlike what
Huxley is portraying reproduction to be in the future. Initially, reproduction is what keeps humans
an animal if reproduction was like it was portrayed in the novel, than there is nothing that defines
humans as human. Humanity will no longer have the traits of humanity because

Rural Poverty Stricken County Of Hale County
Hale County
Hale County, considered one of the most poverty stricken rural counties in Alabama. Located in
the west section of Alabama. Hale County shares borders with Tuscaloosa, Bibb, Perry,
Marengo, and Greene counties. Hale County once referred to as the Black Belt was once known
for its rich soil and crop production. Currently the cash produce is catfish. The county has a lot of
catfish ponds. The switch to catfish farms allowed the county to move away from producing
cotton. The county is named after Confederate Officer Stephen Hale who died during the Civil
War. The county was established in 1867. The goal of this essay is to inform readers about rural
poverty stricken county of Hale.

What makes life worth living? Love, excitement, knowledge, or even aiding others show prime
examples of answers that come to the mind. Albert Camus states a very different opinion to the
world within his novel The plague. In this novel Camus speaks about a small city called Oran. In
this city the seasons rarely change and everyone settles for what they have and demonstrate almost
a complete feeling of contentedness in their everyday lives. In the novelhe also shows that the
saying you don t know what you have until it s gone, may ring true in many cases. Camus shows

Nero s Domus Aurea And The Colosseum
The Colosseum has been standing for over 1900 years but before discussing the Colosseum s
achievements, it is important to understand the historical context and background of the building.
How can a place go from being a symbol of extreme tyranny and private wealth to a symbol of one
of the greatest entertainment venues and architectural feats? The Roman Colosseumdid just that. It
completely changed the public attitude and activity since it was built upon the grounds of what
was once the part of Golden House of Nero (Domus Aurea). Although both Nero s Domus Aurea
and the Colosseum are architecturally supreme and complex, the area holds rich history of private
decadent excess to a public attraction making them supreme and complex in two different ways.

Why Did the 1905 Revolution Fail
Why did the 1905 revolution fail?
One of the main reasons that the 1905 revolution failed was because the October Manifesto
merely only satisfied the middle classes appetite for reform. However this was only a short term
change in government therefore it was not really a revolution because the changes were not
permanent. To add, the readiness of the liberals to accept the government s political and
economical bribes indicted that they were not genuinely ready for a revolution at this time.
Furthermore the duma did not have as much power as the tsar portrayed them to have. They were
not able to pass laws and did not have any control on the state s finance. To add, another reason
why the 1905 revolution failed was because after the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Stylisticism In The Swimmer Poem
The Liffey Swim is a painting capturing the annual Dublin river race. It cleverly depicts the

They both portray people during important life events and memories. The most obvious difference
is the abandonment of realism and trying to portray the scenes truthfully. In the first painting, The

Yeats, in his early works, adopted Sickett s use of short thick strokes of paint and his manner of
correlating colour 2. The colours he used are very neutral, mostly browns, dark blues, muddy reds,
and dull yellows, with a contrasting light blue sky which brightens the painting. His use of warm

Summary Of Let It Snow By David Sedaris
A Relationship Left in the Cold
Let It Snow by David Sedaris is a short story that magnifies the extent to which children might go
in order to grab the attention of their parents. It is full imaginative details that would help the
reader understand what it feels like to be a child. Sedaris starts with these imaginative details from
the beginning of the story to the end and this keeps the interest of the reader. After the reader begins
to read he/she might get the assumption that the story will be about a snow day, but it focuses on
the hurt and neglect in which Sedaris and his siblings experience from their drunken mother and
absent father. After being kicked out into the cold by their mother, the children are left to think
about their relationship with their parents while battling a cold weather. The writer begins to
express his feelings towards his parents, particularly his mother, by providing various details that
keep the reader emotionally invested in the story.
Sedaris reflects on his past, specifically an event that took place during his childhood days.
Young Sedaris and his siblings did not go to school due to bad and unpredicted weather. At that
time, North Carolina hadn t experienced a snow storm like this one before, and kids were excited
and could not wait to play with their friends in the snow. The reader figures out that this story does
not focus on snow but it centers the relationship that Sedaris and his siblings have with their
mother. Sedaris clearly

Abolitionist John Brown
I have, may it please the court, a few words to say. In the first place, I deny everything but what I
have all along admitted the design on my part to free the slaves. I intended certainly to have made
a clean thing of that matter, as I did last winter when I went into Missouri and there took slaves
without the snapping of a gun on either side, moved them through the country, and finally left them
in Canada. I designed to have done the same thing again on a larger scale. That was what I
intended. I never did intent murder, or treason, or the destruction of property, or to excite or incite
slaves to rebellion, or to make insurrection.(Fanton 82)
These are some of the words spoken by abolitionist John Brown at his trial in Charles Town,
Virginia (now part of West Virginia) following his violent raid at Harper s Ferry Federal Arsenal in
October, 1859 (Fanton 82). John Brown played a vital role in the anti slavery movement and his
actions opened the eyes of a nation that would become divided in a war of brother against brother.
He clearly states his intentions, but did he really not mean to excite or incite a rebellion among
slaves? John Brown represented the ideals and thoughts of many Americans. John Brown s strong
beliefs on a violent insurrection of the slaves gave rise to the beginning of the Civil War.
John Brown was born on May 9, 1800 in Torrington, Connecticut (McPhail). When Brown turned

A Good Teacher As A Teacher
A great teacher like Mrs. Lee does not just teach students but has the remarkable ability to
change a student s way of learning. School has always been important to me and I have been
lucky enough to have had some very good teachers along the way. The perquisite for me having
all those good teachers is I always knew what I wanted to do with my life. As a student, it was
advantageous to have a teacher that can have such an impact on me.
Mrs. Lee was my eight grade English Teacher. She was a powerful influencer for me because her
style of teaching turned learning into an enjoyment. Mrs. Lee made learning very feasible. An
example of this is I had often spent hours deliberating over homework and still felt utterly
clueless. She had influenced me to not stop at a barrier but, to overcome it to the best of my
ability. Often, I felt as if Mrs. Lee was the little voice in my head chanting me on to the finish line.
She cared about each of her students as individuals. Just like a parent, she would constantly
express words of gratitude. She would come in early or stay after school. I would come in regularly
in the morning, to which I remembered the smell of warm coffee and sweet peppermints. Even the
smell of her eloquent perfume was comforting to me. Mrs. Lee wanted all her students to succeed,
not to just be successful in her class but in the future. Mrs. Lee had an uncanny philosophy for
teaching. I have always excelled in math and science because those classes are appealing to

Analysis Of The Phantom Of The Opera
This movie is one I ve came back to often, the acting, music, scenery, and the story itself is what
brought me back. I liked how every actor in this film not only fit their role, but also made it
believable. If they were to recast the actors today, I don t think they could find better actors to fit
the roles. Some of the roles in this are Viscount de Chagny Raoul played by Patrick Wilson,
Christine DaaГ© played by Emmy Rossum, The Phantom of the Opera Opera Ghost played by
Gerard Butler, these are just the main characters. The role of the Opera Ghost is played by
Gerard Butler, his acting was good which wasn t surprising I have seen some of his other roles
and they were all well done also. What surprised me the most how well he could sing. There any
many characters that are seen throughout the film, some supporting roles include Madame Giry
played by Miranda Richardson, Meg Giry played by Jennifer Ellison, Carlotta Giudicelli played
by Minnie Driver, Gilles AndrГ© played by Simon Callow, Monsieur LefГЁvre played by James
Fleet, and Monsieur Reyer played by Murray Melvin. There are of course extras. This movie is a
musical that is mainly drama based, so not only does it help keep the movie interesting, the
music is good enough you could listen to it on its own. The movie is set in an Paris Opera House
named the Opera Populaire in 1870. The Opera Populaire is very beautiful and huge. Christine gets
a visit from The Angel of Music after her father s death, the angel then

Analysis Of Toni Cade Bambara s The Lesson
In The Lesson by Toni Cade Bambara, the narrator is Sylvia. She is a young African American
girl who has the capacity to see the truth in the reality around her. Her point of view explores the
issues that minorities face every day. In the way she thinks, speaks, and feel in situations. Sylvia is
able to present a broad view regarding her community; the lack of proper education, the need for
involved parents, and the inequality between rich and poor in the United States.
To begin, the horrifying language in the beginning of the story gives the reader an example of
how people in their neighborhood speak. The author, Bambara does this to show the reader that
children from lower class neighborhoods are affected by their surroundings and that children
learn from experience. When Sylvia says Miss Moore always plans boring ass things for us to
do (171), we, the readers get insight concerning Sylvia s rebellious behavior and her deficiency
of respect towards adults in her life. Sylvia uses irony to mock or convey contempt when she
mentions her experiences with Miss Moore. Bambara presented this to bring out Sylvia s traits.
Even though Sylvia is quick to be involved in mischief, the reader can clearly tell she has a sense
of moral principles as a result of her not being able to go through with the crash of the Catholic
church. When Sylvia says, everything so hushed and holy and the candles and the bowin and the
handkerchiefs on all the drooping heads (175). Sylvia also describes churchgoing as a practice
within the community. When she says, Miss Moore, who always looked like she was going to
church, though never did (171). If Sylvia liked Miss Moore or not, the author, Bambara is not using
faith as an instrument to shape the story. Rather, it is Miss Moore s education that is being used to
affect Sylvia resistance.
The reader can tell Miss Moore is not what Sylvia is used to. When Sylvia describes her as a
nappy head bitch and her goddamn college degree (171). It indicated that Sylvia is not used to
being around an educated people. Miss Moore had seen and experienced things in life that Sylvia
has under no circumstances seen or heard of. Miss Moore is a college educated woman, something

The Link Between English Reading And Mathematics
I noted that historically, any link between English reading (Arts) and Mathematics skills (Science)
seems to have been at best a tenuous one. The issue brought into the public domain by C P Snow
(Rede Lecture 1959) where he claimed: The two cultures (Arts and Science) stare at each other with
mutual hostility and dislike... If this state of affairs was reflected in educational establishments of
that time the likelihood of any meaning full cooperation between those engaging in the teaching of
readingcomprehension and mathematics would seem to be very remote indeed.
Thankfully, changes in opinion did occur over time and by the 1990 s interest in children s maths
skills also led to an increase in research into the association between ... Show more content on

He subsequently explains that it is the format for instruction that presents the difficulty. He
demonstrates if a given task is to calculate a mathematical problem and information is presented as
numbers with operational signs sequenced appropriately, children who understand algorithms can
proceed with ease. However, when the mathematical task to answer includes information that is
presented at the outset in words and sentences, pupils must first comprehend the text before they
can use the appropriate algorithmic skill. Obviously then even the best maths students cannot solve
problems they don t fully understand. Fuentes (1998) maintains the narrative of mathematical
problems tends to be compacted where mathematical concepts and relationships are often hidden,
implied or assumed and the pupil is left to expand and extract the true meaning. This is in marked
contrast to the narrative of storybooks which tends to be expansive and elaborate. In addition he
notes that the ambiguity found in the interpretation of for example, a poem may well be applauded
however any ambiguity in maths text interpretation simply means failure.
From research I have encountered thus far I must agree that good reading comprehension is
essential for interpreting mathematical texts. Baker (1995) and Christen and Murphy

Discussion Forum Questions
This class so far to me has been a learning experience. Theory wasn t always a strong point for me,
but as the semester moves forward, I see myself getting better at grasping the concepts. The
Discussion Forum Questions are useful in the fact that it furthers my knowledge in theory and what
we are learning that week. I get to see how other people are thinking about theory. It gives me the
opportunity to compare and contrast my thinking to their thinking. All of my postings have been up
by Tuesday because I want to give my classmates appropriate time to make comments. I try to put
thorough thoughtinto my discussion posts, and use references to back my posts up. I also try to

Discovery Of Naledi Research Paper
In the historical year of 2013, two amateur cave explorers, Rick Hunter and Steven Tucker,
discovered a primitive human like species in a cave in South Africa. After two years, Lee Berger,
a professor at the University of the Witwatersrand in Johannesburg, South Africa was tipped off by
the cavers, who had explored the deep cave to find multiple fossils. Berger and his team soon
identified the multitude of fossils as a primitive human. This revolutionary discovery has added an
ancestor to our evolutionary tree. This specie, named naledi, has been classified into the genus,
Homo, which includes modern humans. However, due to lack of information, this specie is thought
to have three possible ages of existence. One, an early divergence of the specie Australopithecus

On the other hand, its skull shows progressive shape, small teeth, long legs, and modern human
looking feet. The new specie was discovered in a chamber of the Rising Star cave, 30 meters
underground, in a burial site. The fossils were found unharmed and the environment had no sign
of a calamity. This leads scientists to believe that these early humans had intentionally taken
thought into the burial of their dead. Until the moment of discovery of naledi, I would have
probably said to you that it was our defining character. The idea of burial of the dead or ritualized
body disposal is something utterly uniquely human, says Berger. This idea of another people
intentionally burying its dead has left many scientists to question human identity. After all, if this
specie was found after many years proving it has been involved in burial rituals before, what
others may we find in the future. It absolutely questions what makes us human. And I don t think
we know anymore what does, Berger states. In other words, how many more secrets are out there .

Hairstyles of the 90 s
In 1990 I was 13 years old. I remember that my hairstyle was as important as what I wore everyday.
I wore my hair up, all down, and in a half ponytail. When I wore it all down, I would crimp it with a
crimping tool or flat iron it with really big bangs, using a lot of hairspray. When I wore it up, I
would use a big, colorful, flashy scrunchie to put my hair into a ponytail. The ponytail would
always be at the very top of my head and very big. When I wore my hair half up and half down, I
would also use a big flashy scrunchie to put it in a half ponytail. With that, I would also make my
bangs sticking straight up with a lot of hairspray. I look back at old pictures of myself and think,

Not to mention, my brother also rocked a Mullet. I love those pictures of him. The Mullet hair is
shorter at front and longer at the back. The Beastie Boys song Mullet Head from 1994 became
much more popular once the Mullet hairstyle came into fashion. The Superman comics in the 90
s also shows Superman in a Mullet haircut. Punk rock bands were mostly famous for Mullets,
along with many country singers, such as, Billy Ray Cyrus, Travis Tritt, and Joe Defoe. Sanjay
Dutt, a Bollywood actor also had a Mullet haircut during the 1990 s. The Afro hairstyle comes to
mind when I think of hair in the 90 s too. People with lengthy and kinky hair texture maintained a
fashion with the Afro hairstyle. The hairs are extended out from the scalp and are made in a
round shape like that of a ball or a cloud. Creams, gels and other liquids were used to give the
shape to this Afro style of hair. Popular in the 60 s, the Afro hairstyle came back in the 90 s
again, but with various braids, twists and sizes. NBA players, Kobe Bryant, Michael Beasley
along with several musicians Ludacris, Wiz Khalifa, Beyonce had the Afro style of hair in the 90
s. Next I will talk about the Frosted Tip hairstyle. The Frosted Tip hairstyle was

Croatia, Zadar is also a connection point for tourists that wish to visit this country and prefer to fly

travelling to an unknown city in a foreign country without a thorough research is almost madness,
many tourists arrange their transportation from the airport to their hotels or to the next town from

How To Write An Essay About A Boy
The novel About A Boy, by Nick Hornby, depicts the life of a social outcast named Marcus, who
is sheltered from the outside world by his mother, and is just trying to be accepted by society.
While on the path to achieving this goal, Marcus obtains a newly found self knowledge, within
himself, as a direct result of the obstacles and conflicts he faces. There are many obstacles which
exemplify how Marcus obtains self knowledgeabout himself; one was between him and his
mother, Fiona. Fiona was very controlling over Marcus life, and the day to day activities in which

that she knows what is best for him and what will be most beneficial to him. Acquiring this newly

represented in the novel About A Boy is the ongoing conflict between an individual and his peers.
Similarly, this continuous conflict is emphasized greatly within the relationship between
Marcus and his fellow classmates. As a result of Marcus veering off of the many, absurd rules of
society, he is bullied by his classmates and picked on everyday at school. Consequently, Marcus

Changing the Momentum of a Ball
What is predicted to happen in this experiment is when an angle of elevation of a ramp is
changed on one side this will affect the amount of momentum a ball possess before collision and
after collision. The ball that travels down a ramp with a steeper angle, will have a greater velocity
therefore produce more momentum because it has a greater velocity compared to the ball travelling
down a ramp not as steep. This will then affect the amount of kinetic energya ball possess after
collision. The ball that is travelling down the ramp with a slightly higher angle, will possess more
kinetic energybefore collision but after collision it will posses less kinetic energy because of it
being an elastic collision where energy is conserved and transfers some energy to the ball
travelling down the less steep ramp with less momentum. Therefore the ball travelling down the
ramp that is not as steep will possess more kinetic energy after collision.
In the experiment the ball that travelled down the ramp with a less steep angle of elevation
rebounded further than the ball that travelled down the ramp with a slightly higher angle of
elevation. This occurred because the ball did not possess as much momentum as the ball travelling
down the ramp with a higher angle of elevation. Momentum is the product of an objects mass and
velocity. The reason why the ball travelling down the ramp with a higher of elevation had more
momentum, causing the ball to not rebound as far, was because the

In Shakespeare s play Richard III he presents the story of the Duke of Gloucester, Richard, and
his continuous killing spree to become the king thus taking the spot of Edward III, which
currently holds the crown. This included the killing of all the royal male blood necessary for
Richard to take the crown. Right at the start of the play Shakespeare doesn t hide Richard s evil
scheme in anyway, but rather lays out the premise for the whole play through the mouth of
Richard himself. RICHARD. And therefore, since I cannot prove a lover To entertain these fair

This proves how sly Richard really is and his desire for the crown. He leaves by saying But the
plain devil and dissembling looks, And yet to win her, all the world to nothing! Ha! (1.2.236 38)
which is to be seen as a mockery because of the feat he just accomplished. Later we see how
manipulative Richard is and his ability to pretend to be timid and remorseful with the Mayor.
RICHARD. My lord, there needs no such apology. I do beseech your Grace to pardon me, Who,

System development life cycle is a process use for the period of development system. SDLC
contains four main steps those are analysis, planning, design and implementation during the

SDLC is methodology utilization throughout the improvement of programming framework
beginning from arranging until the execution stage. Information stream outlining, on the other hand,

is exceptionally imperative in characterizing the prerequisites in a graphical perspective.
Accordingly, the unwavering quality of the methodology model is the key component to enhance

The Importance Of Paid Domestic Work
Paid domestic work is defined as a person or individual who works within the employer s
household, expected to perform a variety of task including but not limited to child or elderly
care, cleaning and household maintenance. I will argue that the practice of paid domestic work
cannot be reformed and made equitable for three main reasons. The reasons are as follows: 1)
This form of work is not regarded as an actual job or employment by many 2) The practice of
domestic work is embedded in racial roots and practice 3) There isn t a market for individuals
volunteering to do paid domestic work. For the sake of this argument, I will focus on the care of
children as the only form of paid domestic work, particularly the children of privileged or upper
middle class families executed by women who are minorities. When thinking about a traditional job
with an employer and employee, nannies are not the first to come to mind. When working as a
nannyyou are expected to tend to three different things: the children, the house, and the lifestyle and
values of the employer. As explained by Hondagneu Sotelo, Parents hire nanny/housekeepers to do
work involving intimate care, yet many fundamentally resist the idea that these services require
monetary compensation (Hondagneu Sotelo 120). Although this job involves the worker partaking
in both physical and emotional labor, which isn t a requirement for other jobs, it is still seen as one
that isn t actually employment and shouldn t yield

The Outsides And The Wednesday Wars And The Outsiders
People with normal names live a privileged life. If your first name is something like James or
Emma and your last name is something like Jones or Williams then you have no idea what it s
like to have a name that is unusual or original. However, the main characters from the novels The
Outsiders and The Wednesday Wars know this feeling too well. Imagine having the name
Ponyboy Curtis, or Holling Hoodhood because you could definitely have some trouble fitting in
being called by a name like that. The Wednesday Wars is about a 13 year old boy growing up in
Long Island during the late 1960 s living through all the politics and opinions in the year but also
dealing with small middle schooler problems like having to wear tights in a play and getting
bullied by the big kids . The outsiders is about a 14 year old boy growing up in Tesla, Oklahoma
also during the late 1960 s. However, in this story the kid doesn t talk about politics at all,
instead he talks about his life struggles and real problems like the death of his parents, living a

his brotherhood with the boys in their gang called the greasers. However, these two boys, despite

Summary Of Frank OConnor s First Confession
In the two stories First Confession and Where Are You Going, Where Have You Been The two
main characters are Connie and Jackie. They both are in situations where they are living lies until
each is forced to confront the truth about themselves, and this act of confrontation is freeing them
both spiritually, even though in Connie s case it could lead to her death. In the story First Confession
the author Frank O Connor doesn t use any references that relate it back to events in history.
Regardless of this, there is some developments of context to Catholicism. In the story, Where Are
You Going, Where Have You Been by Joyce Carol Oates there is a reference or inspired by four
murders. Therefore, both Connie and Jackie find themselves at a crossroads to find the truth
about their lives. These two characters are on a journey where one may face death and the other
has to face a higher authority. In the story, First Confession, Jackie is the antagonist in the story
and he is dealing with a lot of negativity around him. Jackie also is living in lies himself and
throughout the story he is forced to find out his identity. Jackie s problems started when his
grandfather passed away, and his grandmother came to live with him. Jackie is a young boy who
is about to go to his first confession, and he is scared to death and does not want to go and face a
priest. His has been somewhat dishonest through the story, so he is contemplating confessing the
truth to the priest or not to confess

Essay about Equality vs. Athletics
Equality vs. Athletics
In 1929, the 19th Amendment gave women the right to vote. This was a breakthrough for America
and an enormous step towards equal opportunities for women everywhere. Being given the right to
vote created a sense of long awaited and greatly deserved equality with men. Even though women
were given the right to vote, over 70 years ago, the government still has to make a law to ensure
that equal treatment is given. Title IX was instated in 1972 to provide women with the same athletic
opportunities as men in universities across the United States. While Title IX has helped advance
female athletics, there are arguments that it has discriminated against male athletics. Attorney Curt
Levey makes a drastically bias ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Fewer than 30,000 females participated in intercollegiate athletics due to lack of opportunities
provided by colleges. After Title IX was established, women who participated in athletics had an
increased chance for opportunities. Since Title IX was introduced in 1972 female athletic
participation has increased more than 403% since 1971. By 2001 2.8 million females participated
in athletics, which makes up 43% of college varsity athletics. These numbers show an obvious
increase in female athletics and prove that Title IX has helped in the advancement of women s
equality (Title IX at Thirty: Report Card on Gender Equity 14 16).
Levey s main argument with Title IX was based on the negative effect of the proportionality rule.
His argument states that in order to comply with the proportionality rule, upper level schools have
to comply with cutting male athletics (Levey 626). However, it has been stated that male athletics,
at both high school and college levels, are continually increasing with the rate of female athletics.
In the case of Brentwood Academy vs. Tennessee Secondary School Athletic Association (TSSAA)
reports state that the TSSAA were not following

General Description of Edwards SAPIEN XT Transcatheter Heart
Valve.
Transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR), or Transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI),
is a relatively new surgical procedure to combat aortic stenosis. When the aortic valve gets
occluded from a congenital defect, or damage from
calcium or scarring ,1 blood cannot flow through the valve efficiently. This leads to decreased
availability of oxygenated blood to peripheral tissues, and can be harmful or even fatal to patients.
When the malformations of the valve reach a critical point in which the patient s health will be
significantly affected by the lack of proper blood flow,
TAVR is an effective choice to combat stenosis. According to a study done by Samir
Kapadia, MD, TF TAVR (trans femoral transcatheter aortic valve replacement) exhibits a 95.7
percent success rate. Thirty day mortality is limited to 0.4 percent, and stroke rate exhibited a 1.6
percent incidence rate. Follow ups after one year showed a mortality rate and stroke rate of 17.5
percent and 3.5 percent, respectively.2 This data implies that while TAVR is effective, the
procedure still has room to improve. The Edwards SAPIEN
XT is a new artificial valve that aims to

America Is Not Universally Free Essay
America is not universally free. This is easily proven with examples from a variety of subjects.
For example, take LGBT rights. De jure, gay marriage is legal nationwide. But de facto, when
one looks at the social reality dealt with by people who are not heterosexual, one finds that not
everyone has the realistic ability to do so. Even on a de jurelevel, there are the bathroom bills,
passed by North Carolina and looked at by many states, designed to limit transgender people s
ability to use the bathroom. But even if one deals with that, and all of the other issues of systematic
discrimination faced by modern America race, class, sex, gender identity, sexual orientation, etc. on
both a de jure and de factolevel, America would still not be universally free. What do I mean by
this? Well, firstly I need to be entirely clear about what I mean by freedom. The Oxford English
Dictionary defines freedom as the state or fact of being free from servitude, constraint,
inhibition, etc.; liberty. This is true; however, any reasonable person can determine that that
does not even begin to cover what freedom really means. There is emotional value in the word
that simply cannot be captured by such a clinical definition. When I say freedom, what I really
mean is the reasonable ability to make choices about one s own actions and one s own life. This
does not have to be free from consequence, but it has to be a reasonable possibility on a de facto
level. What exactly a

My First Voyage Henry Hudson
I, Henry Hudson, have had a reputation for exploring new ways and directions. As an English
explorer, I have felt the need to find the Northwest Passage and seek everything and every visual

attempting to perceive a smaller path to the riches of Asia from Europe via Arctic Ocean. I have
obtained high hopes for my commitments, and I am certainly not going to give up. I am
acquiring high hopes after a fresh, educational start after graduating from Harvard, but I did have to

turning back home for these people to get help. I was leaning towards the continuing side, but
my son was in bad shape, so I hesitated for a long time. A few months later, in June of 1611,

Success Factors And Risks Of The Company
Success factors and risks Even though AB InBev is the largest beer producer in the world they
are still focused on a growth oriented model. This has lead management to pursue a merger
agreement with MillerCoors, the second largest beer producer in the world. The resulting company
will be a mega brewery, responsible for 30% of the world s beerproduction (Bray, 2016).
Management seems to be confident that the merger with MillerCoors will increase sales and
efficiency in the long run because they are issuing out long term debt to help finance the project.
The next three years will be interesting as the company prepares the budget to accommodate the
extensive 1 billion dollar plus cost of the merger (Mickle, 2016). Even after the merger is
complete the return on the investment make take a few years to pipeline as best practices
gained by the merger need to be evaluated and put into place. In the meantime while the merger
is still going through the necessary approval processes, AB InBev should be focusing on
maintaining steady sales in order to help finance the merger. Quarter 2 results where short for
the third time in the past four quarters and revenue was down 10% due to struggling sales in
Brazil and the US (Mickle, 2016). Trying to increase US sales, Bud Light is the AB InBev s

Michelangelo s Impact On Art
Michelangelo Buonarroti is one of the most famous sculptors, painters, architects, and poets during
the high renaissance. He is mostly known for his sculpture of David and his fresco (plaster)
painting on the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel. Michelangelo lived a very intriguing life and had a
huge impact on art as we see it today. Michelangelowas viewed as a patron of the Mannerism
movement. His work of art conveyed an alternate style to this era. What used to be a more
moderate style turned into a more humanistic style in which Michelangelo regularly delineated with

Medici was very impressed with his work, Michelangelo was invited to live and study with his

learned how the body part fit together. He was also allowed to steady dead bodies at the hospital,
where then he learned where the muscles and veins are located, which helped him create lifelike
statues. In 1492, Lorenzo de Medici died. Michelangelo then decided to leave Florence shortly after
the lost. Many People had heard of him and his skills. Michelangelo was invited to Rome to

Essay on Star of the Sea, what kind of man is Lord Kingscourt
Assignment 1
Star of the Sea by Joseph o Connor is a text set during the Irish Potato Famine, in 1847. The Irish
Potato famine of the 1840s was the greatest social catastrophe of 19th century Europe, yet
inspired surprisingly little imaginative writing. (Eagleton, 2002) However this book has been
described by the Sunday Times as having compelling characters and a dizzying narrative
(Heaney, 2007) This compelling story is set around a wealthy, turned bankrupt, land owner and
his family who flee to America, the promised land, in search of a new life. They are joined on
this journey by a range of other passengers whose previous lives are in entwined together in a past
that won t let them go. The book has been written as ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

concerned with the nanny s recent behaviour, however when he says that perhaps she is
homesick (Ibid, Page 7), his wife laughs at this and replies by saying I hardly think so. (Ibid, Page
7) He is a kind, considerate man who does not have normal upper class tendnacies towards other
people. Lord Kingscourt finds the behaviour of the irish upper class hard to stomach (Ibid, Page
8), he doesn t like the way the prosperous Irish were never done lampooning their rural
countrymen (Ibid, Page 8). The upper class usually find it acceptable to make fun of the lower
classes, it is a form of humour to them. However Lord Kingscourt does not hold this view, he
cares about the people around him, regardless of where they have came from or how much
money they have. Lord Kingscourt has in fact often envied them, (Ibid, Page 10). The previous
night Lord Kingscourt had observed a member of steerage, either drunk or half mad in chains. The
Methodist minister told him the man had been locked up for being drunk and violent. As he knew

16 Years On The Street Quotes
My essay is about the quote in the book: 16 years on the street and you can learn a lot but not the
things you want to learn. This quote implies to Dallas Winston, who is seventeen years old. He
spent three years on the wild side of New York, and he was jailed at the age of ten. That
contributes to his tough personality, along with the fact that his parents don t care about him.
Dallas doesn t really care about anybody except his gang who are like his family. He treats
Johnny Cade a member of the gang like a son. This quote is about Dallas, because he was
hardened by spending 16 years on the street. He is very calm when Ponyboy and Johnny tell him
how Johnny killed a Soc, which means he has probably dealt with this kind of situation. Another
reason it implies to him, because he doesn t take criticism from anybody. He also steals regularly,
and he has a very long record with the police, of which he is proud about. When Dally gets angry,
no one messes with him not even Darry, the unofficial leader of the gang. All these reasons point to
the fact that 16 years on the street has changed Dally.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

in order to grow it and spend it wisely. They use their analytical skills to best determine when to

their money will grow or where clients will not out live their money. Financial advisors interact

Vassalage And Senmenment In The Song Of Roland, Oliver And...
The word, vassalage will have a different meaning to different people and their personalities. This
will cause people to argue about how to deal with situations and what course of action is the best
option.
According to Merriam Webster Dictionary, vassalage is defined as a position of subordination or
submission to a political power. While a vassal is someone who is under the protection of someone
with authority such as a feudal lord. This person (vassal) will feel obligated to vow their loyalty
to that person in power. In The Song of Roland , Oliver and Roland both have a different
definition on what makes a great vassal. This paper will discuss both viewpoints on what makes a
marvelous vassal , why the poet used Roland and Oliver to balance out vassals, and a brief
understanding of vassalage and fief holding.
First, a vassal and fief holding is more than just someone of lower status being obedient to their
ruler and using their land to pay them. According to Britannica, some vassals were apart of their
lord s court as household knights. Although, vassals who did not live in their lord s court were
required to have a fief in order to sustain his land and have a solid holding of his service for his
lord and/or king. However, if the vassal did something to violate or break his allegiance to his lord
then it could result is a felony. This could explain why Roland refused several times to use his horn
to call Charlemagne. However, he mentioned several times that calling

Strengths And Weaknesses Of Social Behavior
There are 3 basic research methods that social psychologists use to describe behaviors. Each of
these have both strengths and weaknesses. The observational method is done by observing and
collecting data which is then used to describe the behavior. The researcher observes the events in
a natural setting so none of the variables are manipulated. There must be interjudge reliability,
meaning that when different researchers administer the same test to the same subject they each
must obtain the same measurement. The advantages in this method is that it is the simplest
method, it has greater accuracy, and it is useful for setting up hypothesis. The weaknesses are
that this method is hard to observe because of privacy and secrecy. It is great for explanation but
not as good for prediction and description. The observer might also be biased being that he has
his own opinion on what is right and wrong. The correlation method focuses on prediction. It is a
statistical measure of two or more variables and the relation between them are assessed. The
Correlation coefficient assesses how well you can predict one variable from another. A positive
correlation is when the value of one variable increases it is associated with the increase of the
other variable. For example height and weight, the more one grows the more he will weigh. A
negative correlation is when the value of one variable increases it is associated with the decrease
of the other variable. An example is that the

  • 2. Home Office Abstract A day at the office no longer means long commutes, dressing in a suit and tie or a dress, and performing work according to a 9 to 5 schedule with the boss looking over your shoulder. With the Industrial Revolution came change in how and where people work. The changes were seen subtly at first; people slowly moved to the cities to find work in factories, but then the changes started becoming more noticeable. People flocked to the cities because that is where a person could find work. The days of the small farmer who grew food for his own family were gone. Big corporations moved in and people were hired in by the hundreds, usually to perform meaningless, dreary, work. Modern society is seeing a new kind of Industrial Revolution... Trends of Moving from the Employer s Office to the Home Office With the invention of the telephone and the introduction of the internet along with other technological advances more people are making the transition from working at the office to working from home. Home offices are often referred to as virtual offices or virtual companies. VOXmarketing is a virtual company . It has no headquarters, no cubicles, no employee break room, no HR office where it takes job applications.... workers are connected via phones, e mail, and the Internet (Shartin, 2006). Some of these workers are employees who telecommute to traditional offices, but most represent a kind of modern, untethered American work force . Bai goes on to say that [these people] do most of their work in the comfort of their own homes, or in their cars, or maybe at Starbucks . One question that needs answered is if a person wants to work from home and their job duties allow them to work from a remote area, then why shouldn t companies help the employee make this happen? The new human services, social program will target helping homeless individuals and families to get off the streets. In order to have a successful program I have to come up with an outline and cover all of the basics. This program will have many different resources available to homeless or about to be homeless individuals and families. There are so many homeless people out there and her in the state of Florida there are not many places for homeless people to turn to for comfort and safety. So I am truly excited to be creating this new program that will help many people to go forward and live wonderful and successful lives, no matter what they have been through. Throughout this paper I will be discussing some of the things that are needed in order to start an organization. This paper will serve as an outline or an information source on how to create a social program as well as the social program that I am creating. Basic Information and Demographics The name of the social program that I have come up with is called New Beginnings. This organization will be a community service program for the homeless population. Deciding on a place to put the organization is very important because it is best to try and target an area that is in need of the services. • 4. Oil Industry Group 16: Econ Project #1 Due: 16 October 2003 Introduction by Jamie Ifkovits: Oil is certainly the world s largest cash commodity. One of the main products produced from crude oil is gasoline. Gas plays a significant role in the life of people in countries throughout the world. Gas accounts for approximately 17% of the energy consumed in the United States and is primarily used for powering automobiles ( A Primer on Gasolne Prices 5 Oct 2003). The prices paid by customers at the pumps reflects the price of production and delivery, the retail costs, and taxes ( A Primer on GasolinePrices 5 Oct 2003). By 1932 all of the states had excised taxes on gasoline and the federal government introduced its first tax on gasoline. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This price fall is stated in the law of supply. There maybe a surplus, which would cause the price to fall more. The quantity will increase from Q1to Q2 because there is more gasoline in the area. Question 2 by Jeremy Simmons This increase in tax will initially be paid for by the suppliers. The prices will rise at about the same rate since all suppliers will be paying the same tax. This will cause the price in all gasoline stations to increase there prices by at least 50Вў. Since the price has increased the quantity demanded will decrease. This is shown in the law of demand. Since the quantity demanded has decreased this means that there will be less gasoline sold because people will not want to pay the high prices for gasoline. The majority of the tax increase will be paid for by both the consumer and the suppliers. This is because of elasticity, but more so deadweight loss, which is a reduction in the number of transactions that take place as a result of a tax increase (Miller 2001) . Question 3 by Doug Miller Prices for gasoline tend to be greater along the Pennsylvania Turnpike than they are at the turnpike exits. This happens because rest stop gas stations receive a greater volume of traffic than stations located at the exits. This increased number of vehicles visiting the gas station forces the demand curve to shift outward from its original position. The supply curve however, stays constant. There are no production factors that affect the supply ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

One of the main reasons that the 1905 revolution failed was because the October Manifesto merely only satisfied the middle classes appetite for reform. To add, the readiness of the liberals to accept the government s political and economical bribes indicted that they were not genuinely ready for a revolution at this time. I intended certainly to have made a clean thing of that matter, as I did last winter when I went into Missouri and there took slaves without the snapping of a gun on either side, moved them through the country, and finally left them in Canada. I designed to have done the same thing again on a larger scale. That was what I intended. I never did intent murder, or treason, or the destruction of property, or to excite or incite slaves to rebellion, or to make insurrection.(Fanton 82) These are some of the words spoken by abolitionist John Brown at his trial in Charles Town, Virginia (now part of West Virginia) following his violent raid at Harper s Ferry Federal Arsenal in October, 1859 (Fanton 82). John Brown played a vital role in the anti slavery movement and his actions opened the eyes of a nation that would become divided in a war of brother against brother. School has always been important to me and I have been lucky enough to have had some very good teachers along the way. The perquisite for me having all those good teachers is I always knew what I wanted to do with my life. As a student, it was advantageous to have a teacher that can have such an impact on me. Mrs. Lee was my eight grade English Teacher. She was a powerful influencer for me because her style of teaching turned learning into an enjoyment. Mrs. Lee made learning very feasible. An example of this is I had often spent hours deliberating over homework and still felt utterly clueless. She had influenced me to not stop at a barrier but, to overcome it to the best of my ability. Often, I felt as if Mrs. Lee was the little voice in my head chanting me on to the finish line. She cared about each of her students as individuals. Just like a parent, she would constantly express words of gratitude. She would come in early or stay after school. I would come in regularly in the morning, to which I remembered the smell of warm coffee and sweet peppermints. Even the smell of her eloquent perfume was comforting to me. I liked how every actor in this film not only fit their role, but also made it believable. If they were to recast the actors today, I don t think they could find better actors to fit the roles. Some of the roles in this are Viscount de Chagny Raoul played by Patrick Wilson, Christine DaaГ© played by Emmy Rossum, The Phantom of the Opera Opera Ghost played by Gerard Butler, these are just the main characters. The role of the Opera Ghost is played by Gerard Butler, his acting was good which wasn t surprising I have seen some of his other roles and they were all well done also. What surprised me the most how well he could sing. There any many characters that are seen throughout the film, some supporting roles include Madame Giry played by Miranda Richardson, Meg Giry played by Jennifer Ellison, Carlotta Giudicelli played by Minnie Driver, Gilles AndrГ© played by Simon Callow, Monsieur LefГЁvre played by James Fleet, and Monsieur Reyer played by Murray Melvin. • 23. Analysis Of Toni Cade Bambara s The Lesson In The Lesson by Toni Cade Bambara, the narrator is Sylvia. She is a young African American girl who has the capacity to see the truth in the reality around her. Her point of view explores the issues that minorities face every day. In the way she thinks, speaks, and feel in situations. Sylvia is able to present a broad view regarding her community; the lack of proper education, the need for involved parents, and the inequality between rich and poor in the United States. To begin, the horrifying language in the beginning of the story gives the reader an example of how people in their neighborhood speak. The author, Bambara does this to show the reader that children from lower class neighborhoods are affected by their surroundings and that children learn from experience. When Sylvia says Miss Moore always plans boring ass things for us to do (171), we, the readers get insight concerning Sylvia s rebellious behavior and her deficiency of respect towards adults in her life. Sylvia uses irony to mock or convey contempt when she mentions her experiences with Miss Moore. Bambara presented this to bring out Sylvia s traits. Even though Sylvia is quick to be involved in mischief, the reader can clearly tell she has a sense of moral principles as a result of her not being able to go through with the crash of the Catholic church. When Sylvia says, everything so hushed and holy and the candles and the bowin and the handkerchiefs on all the drooping heads (175). Sylvia also describes churchgoing as a practice within the community. When she says, Miss Moore, who always looked like she was going to church, though never did (171). If Sylvia liked Miss Moore or not, the author, Bambara is not using faith as an instrument to shape the story. Rather, it is Miss Moore s education that is being used to affect Sylvia resistance. The reader can tell Miss Moore is not what Sylvia is used to. When Sylvia describes her as a nappy head bitch and her goddamn college degree (171). It indicated that Sylvia is not used to being around an educated people. Miss Moore had seen and experienced things in life that Sylvia has under no circumstances seen or heard of. The issue brought into the public domain by C P Snow (Rede Lecture 1959) where he claimed: The two cultures (Arts and Science) stare at each other with mutual hostility and dislike... If this state of affairs was reflected in educational establishments of that time the likelihood of any meaning full cooperation between those engaging in the teaching of readingcomprehension and mathematics would seem to be very remote indeed. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He subsequently explains that it is the format for instruction that presents the difficulty. He demonstrates if a given task is to calculate a mathematical problem and information is presented as numbers with operational signs sequenced appropriately, children who understand algorithms can proceed with ease. However, when the mathematical task to answer includes information that is presented at the outset in words and sentences, pupils must first comprehend the text before they can use the appropriate algorithmic skill. Obviously then even the best maths students cannot solve problems they don t fully understand. Fuentes (1998) maintains the narrative of mathematical problems tends to be compacted where mathematical concepts and relationships are often hidden, implied or assumed and the pupil is left to expand and extract the true meaning. This is in marked contrast to the narrative of storybooks which tends to be expansive and elaborate. In addition he notes that the ambiguity found in the interpretation of for example, a poem may well be applauded however any ambiguity in maths text interpretation simply means failure. Discovery Of Naledi Research Paper In the historical year of 2013, two amateur cave explorers, Rick Hunter and Steven Tucker, discovered a primitive human like species in a cave in South Africa. After two years, Lee Berger, a professor at the University of the Witwatersrand in Johannesburg, South Africa was tipped off by the cavers, who had explored the deep cave to find multiple fossils. Berger and his team soon identified the multitude of fossils as a primitive human. This revolutionary discovery has added an ancestor to our evolutionary tree. This leads scientists to believe that these early humans had intentionally taken thought into the burial of their dead. Until the moment of discovery of naledi, I would have probably said to you that it was our defining character. The idea of burial of the dead or ritualized body disposal is something utterly uniquely human, says Berger. This idea of another people intentionally burying its dead has left many scientists to question human identity. After all, if this specie was found after many years proving it has been involved in burial rituals before, what others may we find in the future. It absolutely questions what makes us human. • 32. Changing the Momentum of a Ball What is predicted to happen in this experiment is when an angle of elevation of a ramp is changed on one side this will affect the amount of momentum a ball possess before collision and after collision. The ball that travels down a ramp with a steeper angle, will have a greater velocity therefore produce more momentum because it has a greater velocity compared to the ball travelling down a ramp not as steep. This will then affect the amount of kinetic energya ball possess after collision. The ball that is travelling down the ramp with a slightly higher angle, will possess more kinetic energybefore collision but after collision it will posses less kinetic energy because of it being an elastic collision where energy is conserved and transfers some energy to the ball travelling down the less steep ramp with less momentum. Therefore the ball travelling down the ramp that is not as steep will possess more kinetic energy after collision. In the experiment the ball that travelled down the ramp with a less steep angle of elevation rebounded further than the ball that travelled down the ramp with a slightly higher angle of elevation. This occurred because the ball did not possess as much momentum as the ball travelling down the ramp with a higher angle of elevation. Momentum is the product of an objects mass and velocity. The reason why the ball travelling down the ramp with a higher of elevation had more momentum, causing the ball to not rebound as far, was because the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Importance Of Paid Domestic Work Paid domestic work is defined as a person or individual who works within the employer s household, expected to perform a variety of task including but not limited to child or elderly care, cleaning and household maintenance. I will argue that the practice of paid domestic work cannot be reformed and made equitable for three main reasons. The reasons are as follows: 1) This form of work is not regarded as an actual job or employment by many 2) The practice of domestic work is embedded in racial roots and practice 3) There isn t a market for individuals volunteering to do paid domestic work. For the sake of this argument, I will focus on the care of children as the only form of paid domestic work, particularly the children of privileged or upper middle class families executed by women who are minorities. When thinking about a traditional job with an employer and employee, nannies are not the first to come to mind. When working as a nannyyou are expected to tend to three different things: the children, the house, and the lifestyle and values of the employer. As explained by Hondagneu Sotelo, Parents hire nanny/housekeepers to do work involving intimate care, yet many fundamentally resist the idea that these services require monetary compensation (Hondagneu Sotelo 120). • 42. Essay about Equality vs. Athletics Equality vs. Athletics In 1929, the 19th Amendment gave women the right to vote. This was a breakthrough for America and an enormous step towards equal opportunities for women everywhere. Being given the right to vote created a sense of long awaited and greatly deserved equality with men. Even though women were given the right to vote, over 70 years ago, the government still has to make a law to ensure that equal treatment is given. After Title IX was established, women who participated in athletics had an increased chance for opportunities. Since Title IX was introduced in 1972 female athletic participation has increased more than 403% since 1971. By 2001 2.8 million females participated in athletics, which makes up 43% of college varsity athletics. These numbers show an obvious increase in female athletics and prove that Title IX has helped in the advancement of women s equality (Title IX at Thirty: Report Card on Gender Equity 14 16). Levey s main argument with Title IX was based on the negative effect of the proportionality rule. His argument states that in order to comply with the proportionality rule, upper level schools have to comply with cutting male athletics (Levey 626). However, it has been stated that male athletics, at both high school and college levels, are continually increasing with the rate of female athletics. Transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR), or Transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI), is a relatively new surgical procedure to combat aortic stenosis. When the aortic valve gets occluded from a congenital defect, or damage from calcium or scarring ,1 blood cannot flow through the valve efficiently. This leads to decreased availability of oxygenated blood to peripheral tissues, and can be harmful or even fatal to patients. When the malformations of the valve reach a critical point in which the patient s health will be significantly affected by the lack of proper blood flow, TAVR is an effective choice to combat stenosis. • 47. America Is Not Universally Free Essay America is not universally free. This is easily proven with examples from a variety of subjects. For example, take LGBT rights. De jure, gay marriage is legal nationwide. But de facto, when one looks at the social reality dealt with by people who are not heterosexual, one finds that not everyone has the realistic ability to do so. Even on a de jurelevel, there are the bathroom bills, passed by North Carolina and looked at by many states, designed to limit transgender people s ability to use the bathroom. But even if one deals with that, and all of the other issues of systematic discrimination faced by modern America race, class, sex, gender identity, sexual orientation, etc. on both a de jure and de factolevel, America would still not be universally free. What do I mean by this? Well, firstly I need to be entirely clear about what I mean by freedom. The Oxford English Dictionary defines freedom as the state or fact of being free from servitude, constraint, inhibition, etc.; liberty. This is true; however, any reasonable person can determine that that does not even begin to cover what freedom really means. There is emotional value in the word that simply cannot be captured by such a clinical definition. When I say freedom, what I really mean is the reasonable ability to make choices about one s own actions and one s own life. This does not have to be free from consequence, but it has to be a reasonable possibility on a de facto level. What exactly a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 57. Strengths And Weaknesses Of Social Behavior There are 3 basic research methods that social psychologists use to describe behaviors. Each of these have both strengths and weaknesses. The observational method is done by observing and collecting data which is then used to describe the behavior. The researcher observes the events in a natural setting so none of the variables are manipulated. There must be interjudge reliability, meaning that when different researchers administer the same test to the same subject they each must obtain the same measurement. The advantages in this method is that it is the simplest method, it has greater accuracy, and it is useful for setting up hypothesis. The weaknesses are that this method is hard to observe because of privacy and secrecy. It is great for explanation but not as good for prediction and description. The observer might also be biased being that he has his own opinion on what is right and wrong. The correlation method focuses on prediction. It is a statistical measure of two or more variables and the relation between them are assessed. The Correlation coefficient assesses how well you can predict one variable from another. A positive correlation is when the value of one variable increases it is associated with the increase of the other variable. For example height and weight, the more one grows the more he will weigh. A negative correlation is when the value of one variable increases it is associated with the decrease of the other variable. An example is that the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
